Praying the Word for America: Psalms 7-9
As we continue with our series of praying the Psalms over America, let us examine how we can pray from Psalms 7, 8, and 9 today.

To encourage you, I want to remind you that the Word of the Lord, and the Law it contains, is perfect.
Thus, God’s Word gives us the very best vocabulary for prayer.
One of my favorite passages that talks about the perfection of God’s Word is Psalm 19:7-11:
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, and in keeping them there is great reward (Psalm 19:7-11 NKJV).
(By the way, if you want to memorize this passage, look on YouTube and find your favorite version of an old hymn called The Law of the Lord Is Perfect. (Here’s one version to try, if you like.) It was written by I.B. Woodbury, who died in 1858, according to Hymnary.org; and it has been recorded many times in recent decades. I remember singing this song as a child, 40 years ago. Learning that song is a great way to hide this passage in your heart!)
The Word of God is true and perfect in every way.
Therefore, when we pray God’s Word back to Him, the quality and effectiveness of our prayers will be much higher than when we do not pray according to God’s Word. Are you ready to pray? Let’s intercede for our beloved nation as follows, starting with Psalm 7:
- Ask the Lord to save and deliver every godly person in America from those who persecute them.
- Pray that lawfare against the righteous would be stopped, no matter which arm of the wicked is being used to persecute the righteous.
- Pray that the Lord would preempt every attack against the righteous, keeping those attacks from happening.
- Ask the Lord to expose the plans, roots, and causes of all persecution against the righteous.
- Pray that every evil thing that needs to be exposed, will be exposed and plainly shown to the American people.
- Ask the Lord to arise quickly in His anger and aggressively defend the righteous.
- Pray that the wickedness of the wicked would come to an end, but that the Lord would establish the just.
- Since the Lord tests the hearts and minds, pray that the righteous would pass the tests.
- Pray that the trouble of the wicked would return upon their own heads as much as it is the Father’s will for this to happen.
- Pray that every Christian would keep our eyes on Jesus, and would thank and praise Him with godly attitudes—even before we see all the answers to our prayers.
And from Psalm 8, let’s pray as follows:
- Pray that our God would be magnified and glorified in this nation.
- Pray for the arising of children to once again preach the Word of God, as has happened in the past, and with great effect!
- Pray that the enemy and the avenger would be silenced in America. Pray that the blood of Jesus would be a muzzle to silence every enemy voice.
- Ask the Lord to give Christians accurate prophetic understanding of the signs the Lord sends in the heavens.
- Pray that the dominion of the righteous in America would increase, to the glory of God.
- Ask the Lord to help it become visible reality that all things are under our feet; that the righteous would be victorious in every sphere, and would never be defeated in any sphere.
- Pray that the fear of the Lord, and of His people, would fall upon all the wicked, the same way the people at Jericho felt a holy terror when they saw the Israelites encamped at the Jordan and preparing to attack the city.
From Psalm 9, we can pray the following:
- Praise the Lord for all the good He has done to and for our nation throughout history, but especially in recent years (the destruction of Roe v. Wade, godly judges being seated, et cetera).
- Pray that every enemy of the righteous would turn back, fall, and be convicted to receive salvation at the presence of the Lord.
- Ask the Lord to maintain the right and cause of every godly American, particularly of those in government—but also of any who have been unjustly persecuted in recent years.
- Glorify Jesus, for He is on the throne of the universe—and His throne reigns over every “throne” and position of authority in America!
- Pray that the Lord would expose, derail, dethrone, and destroy every wicked ideology and agenda in America, such that those things are not even remembered or spoken of anymore!
- As judge of the world, pray that Jesus would move through and control every judgment made in the court systems of our nation.
- Pray that the Lord would manifest Himself as a refuge for all the oppressed in times of trouble in our nation.
- Pray that the Lord would help every Christian to remember that He has not forsaken us, nor our nation; and that He will not forsake us.
- Ask the Lord to pour out a spirit of humility upon every American, and especially upon His people. If we humble ourselves under His mighty hand, He will lift us up—and He “does not forget the cry of the humble” according to Psalm 9:12b.
- Ask the Lord to encourage and strengthen all who are down in the dumps about the state of our nation. Pray that He, and they, would strengthen those hands which hang down, and make firm the feeble knees, dispatching them into strong intercession and faith once again—and more than ever before.
Beloved, I know that praying for America can seem difficult at times.
But, your prayers really do make all the difference! Remember that God cherishes your prayers so much that He keeps them and stores them in Heaven! Your prayers move Heaven and shake the earth. And if you will pray for America today and every day, He will hear and answer.

Father in Heaven, You heard the cries of Your people. You alone rid this nation of the evil thrust upon it, much by our own complacency, ignorance and selfishness. But You heard from Heaven and remarked on our repentance. You have showered us with forgiveness and mercy. You have given us a leader to take us forward in restoration, understanding, and prosperity. Our Constitution, which Your hand guided our forefathers to write for our nation now has a safer dwelling and enactment for our people. In all of this we give You praise . With thankfull hearts we look forward to a brighter, safer and gospel spreading future. We ask for protection for our President elect, Donald J. Trump. May his inauguration be a as mooth and peaceful event. We ask you thwart the enemies plans to thwart his inauguration and presidency. May no weapon formed against him, JD Vance, their families , or his cabinet elect prevail. Let the enemy tremble , yet fall to their knees in humble understanding of Your Will. I ask all of these things, expectantly in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts full of thanksgiving and praise. We thank You for hearing the cries of Your people and for showering us with forgiveness and mercy. We acknowledge that our nation has been through a time of great challenge and turmoil, but we rejoice that You have been faithful to us, even when we have been faithless.
We thank You for giving us a leader who is committed to restoring our nation and guiding us towards a brighter future. We pray for President-elect Donald J. Trump, that You would grant him wisdom, courage, and strength as he prepares to take office. We ask that You would surround him with godly advisors and that You would protect him and his family from harm.
We pray for a smooth and peaceful inauguration, and that Your will would be done in all aspects of our government. We ask that You would thwart the plans of those who seek to harm our nation and our leaders, and that You would bring them to their knees in humble submission to Your will.
We thank You for the gift of our Constitution, which was guided by Your hand. We pray that it would continue to be a foundation for our nation, and that it would be upheld and respected by all who are in authority.
We pray for revival and spiritual awakening in our nation, that Your people would be stirred to repentance and faith, and that Your name would be glorified in all that we do. We ask that You would pour out Your Spirit upon us, and that You would use us to spread the gospel and bring hope to a world that desperately needs it.
We thank You for Your faithfulness and Your love. We thank You for being our Rock and our Refuge. We pray that You would continue to guide us and protect us, and that You would bring us into a brighter future, where Your will is done and Your name is glorified.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
“Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for giving us Your perfect Word. Thank You for showing us that You are the great Victor over all, and that You alone will hear and answer when we pray. We ask for Your mighty hand and Your outstretched arm to move today on behalf of our nation. Thank You, Abba. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
I ASK IN JESUS’NAME
AMEN
The prayers from Psalm 7 are focused on escaping persecution. That’s not biblical. But it’s decidedly American.
Abba, as David asserted in Psa. 7 – You are a refuge for the righteous from the onslaught of the enemy, both spiritual and natural. May we like David throw ourselves upon Your mercy, for You dispense judgment and test hearts and minds. Grant us humility to ask the “if” questions – “If I have caused this, if there is guilt on my hands, etc.” – and then to respond when necessary in repentance, true Godly sorrow and turning away from evil. Each day, moment by moment we make choices between righteousness and wickedness. Considering the fact that You are a righteous judge who even knows our intents and motives, and considering the fact that each choice results in consequences – may we choose wisely.
Psa. 8 expresses the awe that results from knowing You, and Your glory, majesty, Sovereignty, works, creation and care for mankind. Thank you for the dominion you gave to mankind. Help us to use it wisely.
In union with David’s cry in Psa. 9 – “We give thanks to You, YHVH – with all our hearts!! May gladness, joy and praise rise up from grateful hearts! We welcome Your righteous judgments, Lord, upon our nation. You do not abandon those who seek You, and those who know Your name trust in You. You hear the cry of the oppressed, troubled, afflicted, poor, and needy – may we be Your hands and feet to minister to them and to one another. You are our blood avenger – we entrust our enemies to Your dealings. May the wicked be ensnared in the work of their own hands.
Father, we pray true law and order will be restored to our nation at every level in national security, law enforcement,
and the reduction of crime in all aspects of society. We pray for continued exposure of injustice in governmental agencies
and the removal of corrupt officials and structures that have promoted unjust decrees against American citizens

Father, You are God and no other God before You. Forgive my God of self especially. Make me like Yeshua who did Your will and not His own. Give us Your will to do dunamis exploits in prayers, actions and exploits to make Your Will operative in our sphere of influence without comparing us one to another. Help us operate from heaven here, now to be Your Kingdom people.
Proverbs 21:30 NIV
“There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.”
Psalm 123:1
“I lift up my eyes to You,
to You who sit enthroned in heaven.”
Psalm 124:8
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Psalm 91:8-10
“You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.”
Abba Father- Your word is light and it is everlasting, it remains firm and true. Your word is our anchor and shield. With a grateful heart, we praise You and give You thanks. In Your Son’s most precious name- Yeshua, Jesus. Amen
I pray that God gives us wisdom and courage to minister to our children, grandchildren about Jesus that now is time if salvation. There’s a lot spiritual warfare. Where evil is devouring them. To darkness. Letting them know that Jesus is the Light of the World.
