Do you want to contend for God’s will on the earth and bring blessings down on your own head while doing so? Then, praying for the peace of Jerusalem should be an essential part of your prayer strategy.

The Bible commands us to pray for Israel, the Jewish people; and the peace of Jerusalem—and God has promised to bless us as we bless the children of Abraham. Psalm 122:1-9 says:

I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.’ Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem!

Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together, where the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, to the Testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord. For thrones are set there for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces.’ For the sake of my brethren and companions, I will now say, ‘Peace be within you.’ Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek your good (Psalm 122:1-9).

It’s important for all intercessors to pray for Jerusalem for four reasons (and there could be more, but these four are key):

1) Because God loves Jerusalem.
2) The Temple was there and the Bible tells us it will be there again. It’s the place God historically set His glory. And it must be built again in order for the events of Daniel and Revelation to unfold and for Jesus to return to take us home to Heaven.
3) Because Jerusalem is the eternal, undivided capital of the Jewish people, and God loves the Jewish people.
4) Because God’s Word says to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. 😊

So, will you join me in praying for this all-important city in the land God loves?

Pray this prayer for the peace of Jerusalem today:

“Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You in Jesus’ name.

Abba Father, we thank You for saving us through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Thank You for grafting us into the rootstock of Your covenant with Abraham and for making us who are in Christ into spiritual Jews and partakers of Your divine covenant. We praise You for Your mercy and grace toward us.

Lord God of Heaven, we lift up Your people Israel today—particularly their capital city, Jerusalem.

And we humbly ask You, in Jesus’ name:

• Reveal Jesus Christ to every person in Israel as their Messiah and King, and let the blood of Messiah, the Christ save every person.
• Give Israel godly leaders who love You and who trust in Jesus as their Messiah.
• Let every Israeli vote according to Your will and Your ways, so that righteous governments will be empowered and every unrighteous aspect of government dethroned.
• Protect the Israeli intelligence agencies and their godly efforts around the world. Send them the inside information that they do not know but which they need to know in order to protect Your people Israel.
• Please protect the airspace of Jerusalem. Defend her from rocket attacks and every other kind of airborne attack with the iron dome of Your right hand, which is far better than the best weapon mankind could ever invent.
• Please protect the land borders of Israel and all her cities. Do not allow any person with bad intentions to pass through the borders. Give Israel’s border patrol unusual wisdom and discernment to handle and discover all nefarious situations.
• Expose and reveal every plot that the devil and his forces have conspired to carry out against Jerusalem and Your people, Israel, and stop those plots in their tracks.
• Comfort the heart of every Israeli and Jewish person around the world. Speak to and minister to them by Your Holy Spirit as only You can. Encourage and make them perfect in Your perfect love, which casts out fear.
• Protect the logistics systems of Israel, such as roads, railways, and ports. Defend them from terrorism, accidents, and malfunction.
• Send angels to watch over Your people, Israel, and to protect every man, woman, and child.
• Protect the missionaries and humanitarian workers who have sacrificed to live in Israel amidst constant danger. Comfort them and encourage them. Send angels to watch over them and minister to them. Provide for all their financial needs, and help them be bright and shining lights for You.

Father in Heaven, in Jesus’ name, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

We humbly ask today that peace would be within her walls and prosperity within her palaces. For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, we pray for the peace of Jerusalem. And we humbly ask also that, because we have obeyed Your commandment to pray for this glorious city, that You would prosper us who love Israel and the city of Jerusalem as well.

Thank You, Abba Father. We love You and bless You. Thank You for the opportunity to pray for Your people Israel, who are the apple of Your eye. Please move in power among them by Your Spirit, protecting them and drawing them to Yourself. Thank You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen and amen.

Beloved, this is a simple prayer for the peace of Jerusalem.

But, even praying simply, as long as it is in unity, will still have a big effect. The Lord will answer and continue to defend our ally and friend, Israel, as we pray!
