I Prayed

Did you struggle to pray for the USA in 2021? If so, you’re not alone. Many, many people in the Body of Christ have struggled with disillusionment, discouragement, and even despair over our nation recently. The hopes of many have been dashed to a million pieces, and many are struggling to understand how and when God will ever turn it around.
(Note: If you’re struggling with despair and disillusionment, read my written prayer that I pray when my hopes are dashed and I’m facing despair.)
However, I wanted to encourage you with a few BIG facts:
God is still alive and doing well. He’s still on the throne; He is still just and righteous; and His Word is still true.
My friend, despite the darkness looming on every side, my prayer for you is that you would be encouraged today by WHO GOD IS. I know things have been terribly difficult—especially for intercessors who have experienced a crisis of faith when things have not gone as many hoped. However, God is still not a man, that He should lie. Everything He has spoken, He will make good. And Ecclesiastes 8:12-13 says:
“Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him. But it will not be well with the wicked; nor will he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he does not fear before God” (Ecclesiastes 8:12-13).
As Christians, our comfort cannot be in news headlines or in the events we see around us. Headlines are fickle and the winds of change blow every day this way and that, never settling on any particular path. Despite these things, Jesus Christ is Faithful and True. His mercy endures forever, and GREAT is His faithfulness.
Beloved, if you are willing to take comfort in the very nature of God—the very DNA of God, if you will—then please join me in praying for our beloved nation today from this faith-filled perspective:
“Dear Heavenly Father, we come to You in Jesus’ name.
Father God, we love You. We depend on You and on Your faithfulness, even when things look dark around us and we cannot see light ahead.
Father, thank You for being the Light of all men. Jesus, thank You for being the Light that shines in the darkness. Thank You for being the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And Holy Spirit, thank You for shining Your illuminating light in our hearts, that we may see Jesus and cry out “Abba! Father” through You and Your power.
Father God, in Jesus’ name, we lift our beloved nation up to You today. Father, we pray over the USA in 2022:
- That she will know peace—the true peace which passes all understanding; the peace that can only be found in Christ Jesus.
- That she will know joy—the true joy that is only found in the presence of God.
- That she will know wisdom—the wisdom from above, which is first pure, then peaceable, undefiled, willing to yield to You, and full of mercy and good fruit.
Father God, I ask today in Jesus’ name that You would bless kings and those who are in authority. We acknowledge today that the “kings” and “people who are in authority” may or may not be two different groups of people, Lord; but we pray that You would shower them all with Your goodness, which brings men to repentance.
Father, for those leaders and workers in government who may yet be saved, we ask that You would pour out Your Spirit of salvation upon them.
From the President to the humblest, most unknown worker in the land, let them cry out to You for mercy and salvation. And Father, for those who refuse to be saved and refuse to honor You and walk in righteousness and justice, we pray that their days in office would be few and that another would take their office, according to Your will and Your plans only, Lord.
Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ name, we ask that revival would fall on America in 2022. We ask that Christians would rise up and preach Jesus in the streets. We ask that churches would be filled again with people who are being saved. We pray that You would give us, Your servants, boldness to preach and speak as we ought to speak.
Father, we ask also that You would protect these United States of America in 2022. Protect her people, her supply chain, her economy, her food sources, her ports, her airspace, her military, her government, her cities, her villages, her schools, her shopping malls, airports, and every other facility. Protect our Constitution and Bill of Rights, Father. Protect the integrity of our Supreme Court, for we acknowledge that even though the Court is called “Supreme,” YOU are actually the Supreme Being and You rule over all as You will.
O holy Father, we need You. We need You to give life to our nation again.
Heal and restore our economy. Protect and bring justice to our elections. Repair our health care system and set it aright. Heal our military.
We pray against every false theology and ideology, which are idolatry, and in Jesus’ name we cast them down in America right now:
- We decree and declare that 2022 will be the year in which America and Americans and every stranger within our gates will WAKE UP and see the light of Jesus Christ shining upon them.
- We declare and decree that 2022 is the year in which we shall ALL know the truth, and the truth shall make us free.
- We decree that LIFE shall prevail in 2022, and that every murderous intent of every person disposed to evil IS cast down now and replaced with the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
- We declare that there shall be an end to control and manipulation in 2022, and that FREEDOM would ring out again from even the dirt and stones of our nation.
- And we declare and decree that the truth of Jesus Christ, the Word of God, shall run swiftly from border to border; from lakeshore to gulfshore; and from sea to shining sea—and that all the people in our great nation would no longer be deceived, but would be filled with Your Spirit as You pour out Your Spirit upon all flesh.
Father God, there may be much darkness around us, but YOU shine through the darkness.
You have done much in 2021 and prior years to right many wrongs in our nation. We praise You for that, and we thank You. And in 2022, Father, we humbly ask You to bless us and heal our land. Turn Your people back to You, and do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond all we could ever dare to ask, hope, or think. Show up, Lord, and do the great and the mighty for us in the USA this year.
Thank You, Abba Father. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, amen and amen.

America a nation founded upon prayer and the Bible.
Ben Franklin was the most respected man in the world, by the way, greatly admired around the globe. And he asked to speak and he got up and he said, “I am an old man.
But one thing that I have learned is that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall without his notice, it is not possible that a free nation can rise without God’s guidance and power?”
He said, “We’ve been instructed in the sacred writings, ‘Except the Lord built the house they labor in vain that build it.”
He said, “We cannot be successful in the building of a free and stable nation without God’s guidance, wisdom and power.” And then he mentions other things in the struggle with Great Britain.
And the next 116 days they wrote the Constitution of the United States of America, creating the oldest and freest government on the planet.
The men wanted to build the strongest, most moral and most peaceful nation possible. Many ideas were considered; in their wisdom they determined that God and His Holy Word had the answers to every question about how to build a strong, fair and lasting foundation for the new nation of America.
Ben Franklin stated; “When we needed guidance on different questions and aspects of an honest and lasting government, we would immediately open the Bible and pray for God to reveal His wisdom and His plan for governing a nation that would honor Him and withstand the assaults of hell and the evil tyrants that would try to destroy America.
Benjamin Franklin recalled: “We had daily prayer in this room for God’s guidance. Our prayers were heard and they were graciously answered.
“At the beginning of each session we would first call upon God the source of all wisdom for counsel, we always begin each session with prayer.”
And so they voted, they agreed, they recessed for the weekend to spend time in prayer and searching the Bible for God’s guidance; we met back the following Monday morning for three hours of prayer on our knees.
How do we bring America back to freedom and integrity? People who call themselves Christians must make Christ the absolute Lord of our lives, desire to live a life of holiness, be faithful stewards of the money, time and resources that God has given us to reach the lost.
We must invest God’s money on reaching the lost. The most patriotic thing that any true patriot and Christian can do for America is to lead someone to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
2 Chronicles 7:13 “If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send a plague among My people, 14 and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
The bad news is only 2% of young parents today actually have a Biblical worldview, so what are they passing along to their kids? America is under God’s judgment.
God is looking for his children to stand before him on behalf of the land in which they live. The question is who will take up this challenge? Who will care enough for the land to stand in that gap, for the lost?
The Bible says in Ezekiel 22 v 30 “I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none “. Dear Heavenly Father. God I pray in the name of your Son Jesus my Lord and Savior, that you would hear our prayers and protect our freedom to worship You. Protect the family from the evil one on earth. Protect the unborn children from abortion. Protect our young children and young adults from the brain washing and replacing You with things of this world. And direct us and guide us Lord God, as your people. To act and live in such a way, so that those who don’t know you, will see the joy of the Lord Jesus in our lives and actions, so that they will want the same! Your will be done, Father! I love you Lord, in Jesus name I pray!!
Father! How I thank you for the great privilege of living in these United States of America!!! My hope and expectation for this nation lies in you and your merciful loving kindness to turn the hearts of this people back to you wholly. Lord, today I repent of my despair and depression these past few weeks. Today I will encourage myself in Your Word and in all the blessings You have provided for me and for this nation in the past. Forgive me Lord for my little faith, and keep me strong in declaring what Your Word says about these current situations. I read this prayer outloud and totally agree with it’s content. I believe God will hear because we are asking according to His will. I will continue to say the declarations again each day believing that God’s will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven. In these declarations, I know that the problem at the border will turn into multitudes of people being saved. Our agreement together as one body of believers will destroy the work of the enemy on those who are doing evil in our country. No weapon formed against America will prosper as long as we stand firm on the Word of God and use God’s Word to change our nation.

I’m in agreement with this prayer but it grieves me deeply that there is no stand taken about our border being violated every day. Nothing is said about control of our borders so that illegal entrance into the country be stopped. No plea made to God that our constitutional laws be followed regarding entrance. It also seems to me that we should fervently pray for a return to law and order, a respect for law officers and the price they pay to protect law abiding citizens.

Promises made to this nation and individuals by God in 2021 and past years are promises being kept by God in 2022. He decrees a thing, it becomes a law He fulfills. He is not like man that needs to repent and He does not lie. Seeds planted are maturing and ready for harvest in 2022. His promise are yea and amen. Agreeing with the prayer He will show up big, roll up His sleeve, and extend His arm of salvation.

Father God, lead me into the paths of righteousness for your namesake this day. Holy Spirit excavate my heart and bring me into the presence of Jesus to hear the Good Shepherd’s voice. I agree with the prayer and have watched God come through in the most turbulent times of my lifetime. He is exposing the corruption so healing can come. He always deals with personal as well as national sin.

Amen, I prayed this prayer as well and I also agree with Al Whittinghill. REPENTANCE…is what is needed. We need to recognize our sin understand and feel the pain it has caused our Lord and turn from it. A hearfelt and deep concern for our walk and and total about face to walk towards righteousness. Ask God for forgiveness and seek His face in all things. Healing will begin and revival will begin once His people acknowledge their sin and have a changed heart. I pray for this nation almost everyday. It’s easy to feel downcast with what is going on but keeping your eyes on Jesus revives the soul and give hope for the future as His word speaks.

I loved your article. I agree with you. But there is one thing that is missing as the necessary ingredient for our prayers to be effectual at this time. I do not hear it being called for among God’s people.
REPENTANCE…… Who is preaching that the church needs to repent? I mean the deep repentance of heart that is to characterize the heart of a real intercessor. It matures and ripens in the heart of a consecrated Christian. The Church needs to lead the way in this….brokenness,, and a contrite heart. Look at Daniel in chapter nine and ten. Where are our tears? To five of the seven Churches the Lord Jesus called for repentance. We need to repent as God’s people…. I believe IFA is a wonderful ministry…and I am believing that it will “hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches ” in our day. I love you guys….Let us lead the way in standing in the gap…personal repentance and corporate…..then the world might listen when they see a repentant church. Our only hope for revival! Please respond to this, I am with you…also on the national PC.
Amen Al !! I also agree with Jamie’s article and prayer. My spirit has been quenched this year as I try to pray for our nation. But, when I remember that I need to repent, that I need to be changed, and that the only way for that to happen is for me to spend time in God’s presence, in prayer, then, I am able to pray fruitfully. I love IFA and this body of intercessors.

I have prayed and agree with this prayer. It is so easy to get our eyes on our circumstances or desires. Over the past year I have also struggled with discouragement and hope dashed on the rocks of despair, both personally and as a citizen of this great nation, America.
I’ve found my comfort in the Lord and His precious Word. I heard the following comment and realized it is a truth I can hold onto in Him… “On earth a crisis is perceived as a threat to our wellbeing. In Heaven it is an opportunity to discover something.” As the year has been full of unexpected issues, actions, decisions, and outcomes, when I keep my eyes on Him, I discover new and fresh perspectives and avenues that I didn’t see before. He continues to open His treasures of wisdom and truth to all who will but look to Him. He is still Lord and nothing escapes His notice or plan. He is not wringing His hands in despair and defeat. The thing Jesus says about Himself is that He is gentle and lowly of heart (Matt 11:28-30). That means He is tender and approachable. He knows our stance, our surroundings, our deepest heart affairs and will meet us right there in them when we come and allow Him to work His desires, His plan, His timing into our situations, into our lives. It may seem a hard thing to do, laying all down before Him, but I am finding it is the best and most prosperous, full way to live.
Father God, we come to You and choose to lay our disappointments down, our desires we place at your feet. We know You have all wisdom and know the best for us personally and as a nation. Help us, teach us Holy Spirit, to learn of You, to take your yoke upon us and walk with You in these days ahead. We ask for blessing on our nation, our leaders, our families, that we may be the light You use to show forth your goodness. May our eyes ever be on You. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

I have not stopped praying all through the past 13 months. I feel stronger than in September 2020 that we needed the awful things that are upon us. It draws God’s chosen people to him. The evil will be defeated very soon. The power of mighty God is greater than we can imagine and we will see great things, just as we did in 1776. We are going to win, win, win. We will not be stopped. And, yes, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. It is the false visions being cast upon our eyes that we are not strong enough to defeat evil. That lie is why we have been lying down, but not not anymore. God will clear the skies and we will see clearly. We will see the evil ones and their deeds as very weak in the eyes of God and we will march to victory all over our glorious nation. We will be so glad that we have chosen to follow Jesus during 2022. We will be in the places where we are able to glorify God during these times. It will be a grand year for sure. Maybe the greatest year we have ever seen in America. Please everyone, rejoice for the time is here to see greater miracles than ever before in our lifetimes.

I began this new year morning by reading the first 3 chapters of Genesis. What a reminder of just how all-mighty, all-knowing, all merciful our God is! His ways are not our ways, so that is a reminder also, that we need to forget all our fretting, fussing and fuming, and end each request we make of Him by “Your will be done” . We know His way is perfect, and that should put us at peace, regardless of the fact that this world seems to be “whirling out of control” according to human standards.
I prayed this prayer this morning, January 1, 2022. I have prayed similar prayers throughout last year. We have reached a point in our nation that only God can reverse. Too many of satan’s minions are in control of too many institutions and are working feverously to make sure the God-fearing, upright Christ followers can never be in control again. Praise God that satan is delusional and all things can be made right through Jesus Christ. God is still in control.

We are like a great symphony of musical instruments before God’s Throne. Some intercessors or intercessions are like percussionists with bold, sharp attacks on the enemy. Some sound the trumpets bringing in the Lord’s angel armies to do battle in the Holy Name of Jesus. Some are strings with comforting Biblical reminders of the Greatness of our God, and some are a glorious and harmonious choir proclaiming the wonders of our God and His Son who forever sits at His Right Hand making intercession for us. Some of what you prayed has been my prayer almost every morning. It is so much fun to see how the Holy Spirit prays through other intercessors isn’t it. Recently, the Lord gave me Jeremiah 29:7 “seek the Lord for the welfare of the city where I have sent you…and pray to the Lord on its behalf for in its welfare, you will have welfare.” Since that time I have not forgotten to pray for the churches and salvation in my area. Last night on PBS there was a pro-American concert, and just beautiful music to brighten our evening, Sandi Patti was the soloist and I haven’t seen or heard here for years, but she sang a song called “Love from the Heart” i think it was. I just recently lost my husband of 54 years and am alone in my home, trying to get through each day. Father I also asked that in the name of Jesus but you will help us to prepare for the coming tribulation on the church. That in tribulation we as the body of Christ will rise up and live and declare the works of the mighty God that we serve. Give the Christians and the church in America the boldness to be able to stand up for you under any circumstance that may come our way. Help us to prepare daily through prayer and Thanksgiving for all that you are and have done for us. Above all Else may your name be a praise on the lips of your people in the USA in 2022.

God, thank you that you “didn’t just show up, but showed out” (preacher terms it) answering prayers for my life. “Show out” again answering prayer to replace these wrong thoughts and actions with right. Likewise, show who You are (loving, powerful and truthful) in lives of Christians and let their light overflow to non-Christians so that these wrong actions are decreased dramatically. Get to the root. Give a true good news view of You as deeply loving, instead of fake news portraying You and Christian as ungraceful, mean, joyless. Give them truth about life purpose, themselves. Let your true fulfilling intimacy fill the dark void deception that some try to fill with electronic communication, so that there is no room for desire to fill their intimacy needs in these distorted ways that are dishonoring to You and them. Help them realize their value to You. Sweep away lies that influence using body differently than an envelope temple through which to worship You!

Years ago I had children, born premature, die in my hands. Like the sadness in this nation, that pain was made less by the knowledge that Jesus and our Almighty Father never abandon those that seek him. I pray and I know that my prayers are heard. Looking back quietly ALWAYS brings to recognition the saving work of God. And when a leader turns from righteousness God often calls upon the unlikely and perhaps most unexpected to be his tool.
