The 74th National Prayer Breakfast’s (NPB) annual gathering takes place February 5, 2026. This unique event could well be called the International Prayer Breakfast as 3,500 people travel from 100 nations and 50 states gather in Washington, D.C., where, for three days, Christians, Jews, Hindus, and Muslims set aside their political and religious differences to meet in “The Spirit of Jesus.” The basic principles of Jesus become the main topic of speakers and discussion groups.

Who is praying on the wall?

For many, these days are the busiest days of the year, as the event brings a unique opportunity to reconnect with people they know from across the globe, making this a global event. It’s not uncommon to meet people who will become lifelong friends from this time forward.

For some, the deep theological dive into Jesus’ prayer for unity may be difficult to grasp, but at the Prayer Breakfast, amazingly, that’s what happens. Most Christians come away with a deeper understanding of how to share Jesus without reservation with friends and strangers.

President Eisenhower attended the first NPB in 1953. Every year, the sitting President has followed President Eisenhower’s example by attending the event and addressing those who attend.

The history of the NPB reveals a spiritual thread of men and women through generations who carried a vision to reach those in positions of power, who, in turn, would then reach the poorest of the poor. It’s not uncommon for The International Foundation, the non-profit that sponsors the NPB, to host leaders on a regular basis, always encouraging them to be strong, moral leaders who embrace the teachings of Jesus. The prominent question posed at most dinners is “What are you doing to help the poor in your nation?”

Several key historical figures influenced the NPB, the first of whom was William Wilberforce, a member of the British Parliament in the late 1700s. Wilberforce gathered leaders around him who met frequently to discuss how they could make England a moral nation and how to eradicate slavery. His faithful group became known as the Clapham Circle, and with Wilberforce’s leadership and the unity of the group, they were able to accomplish both goals. The Slavery Abolition Act, passed in 1833, was a substantial first step in stopping slavery around the world.

Another NPB influencer was Abraham Vereide, a Norwegian American Methodist minister, who worked with the poor in Seattle, Washington, in the 1930s, establishing Goodwill Industries and organizing prayer groups that focused on spiritual renewal and reconciliation. The work was hard and seeing little results, Mr. Vereide decided he might make more progress helping the poor if he founded prayer groups at the seat of this nation’s power. Vereide moved to Washington, D.C. in 1942 and began founding prayer groups in both the House and the Senate.

Mr. Vereide was a strong influence on Doug Coe, who, in 1969, took the leadership of the International Foundation, the nonprofit that sponsors the NPB. A position Doug Coe held until his passing in 2017. He was a pivotal figure in the history of the NPB, working quietly behind the scenes to not only organize the event but also build relationships with leaders across the world, regardless of their political leanings or religious views. It was quiet diplomacy, and Doug Coe was the best. He guided the NPB to be nonpartisan, open to all faiths, and always embracing the principles of Jesus.

The gathering of the NPB gives us an excellent opportunity to pray for the leaders of the nations. It is also a time to appreciate an organization that has stayed faithful to its original purpose of praying for leaders to walk in unity among differing religious beliefs and political parties.

Won’t work. Why? Jesus said in His Word, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
Here’s another from the mouth of Jesus: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: No man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him and have seen him.” (John 14:6-7). Hallelujah!

While praying with people of other faiths like Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews, etc., may be a good thing to promote unity, they cannot expect God to bless or really answer their prayers for one simple reason: They are not genuinely unified around the most critical issue: Who Jesus is, and what He did for the salvation of mankind. He is God – who Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and Jews deny. Eternal salvation from sin and Hell is only found through the finished work of Jesus on the cross, and nothing can be added to it by anyone. Jesus Himself said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Me.” If you are a leader of the IFA organization, and you have a say in what goes on this website, then please change your statements on this page about the great unity of all these different faiths that come together to pray at the National Prayer Breakfast. Thank you.

Praying that God will curtail any scheme plan or device to bring destruction and division internally or externally in Jesus mighty name we pray against the betrayer the Judas spirit who could seem like a friend but be deceiving others. And we just declare your victory Lord that you would be glorified in all of these leaders all of these nations that you would manifest your presence oh Lord come upon them in such a powerful way that all of them will have dreams and visions and even see the man and white Jesus come to them personally The time is now for leaders to bow down like the 24 elders before your throne and we thank you for our godly leaders We thank you for those who really have a heart to pray and to worship you Lord in spirit and in truth Bless them protect them supernaturally in Jesus mighty name. We commit the whole event and all surrounding travels to you and what will be done with Iran in this hour Oh Lord Give us your wisdom Give our leaders your supernatural wisdom discernment and revelation Amen

Deut. 32:39 See now that I, I am He and there is no other besides Me…. Father open the eyes of those who worship false gods. Let them see You and You only. May they hear Your Truth, receive Your salvation, and walk in Your ways with forgiveness instead of unforgiveness, Love instead of hatred, Peace instead of anger. May this be a time of renewal for those that know You. May a new fire burn in their hearts for You. In Jesus Mighty Name I ask these things.

MAY THE SPIRIT OF JESUS OVERWHELM & OPEN THE EYES OF THE ONES WHO DO NOT KNOW HIM AS LORD AND SAVIOR… that they may see TRUTH, repent, and follow Him and His Ways ONLY. ❤️✝️🔥 may the fire of God fall on these meetings and burn out the dross that HE may reign in our USA government and lands.

Watching President Trump speak as I write this, I pray that he may move away from focusing on himself, and treating this as a “State of the Union” address and instead focus on things such as the spiritual roots and foundation of our country and the need in the present day to adhere to those. I pray that he might not continue to focus on his ego and matters not central to the themes of the National Prayer initiative.

Philippians 2:9-11 – …For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the Name
that is above every Name, so that at the Name of Jesus every knee will bow of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

LORD and God Almighty, at this breakfast, I pray Jesus is so highly exalted, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess He is their Savior and Messiah. This is to Your Glory Father and the good of every eternal soul. Amen

Jesus you are God, the Son of the Triune God. Please Lord Jesus move in a powerful and loving way at the National Prayer Breakfast. I pray that you would make yourself known to all non-believers as well as those who are “fence post” Christians.
May everyone in attendance have a vision of you on your throne and understand just how powerful you are. May our National Leaders fear you oh Jesus.
In Jesus name, Amen!
