I Prayed have prayed
Lord Jesus, we lift up the suffering Armenian believers. Bring an end to their oppression, and comfort them in their time of need.

Armenia, historically Russian-held until the fall of the USSR, and its Artsakh (also known as Nagorno Karabakh) region in particular have been almost 100% Christian throughout history. In democratic Artsakh can be found a charming concentration of churches and monasteries, vineyards, sheep farms, and orchards.

Artsakh sits inside a triangle of surrounding large powers: Russia, Turkey, and Iran. It has had a longstanding territory dispute with neighboring heavily Muslim Azerbaijan, which receives assistance from Turkey. Azerbaijan is escalating attacks, and a recent offensive killed and displaced hundreds, including children. This might have aroused Russia’s supportive interference, but Russia is preoccupied with Ukraine.

The U.S. is similarly preoccupied, but USAID Administrator Samantha Power said on Sept. 25 that “very high-level discussions are taking place” about the appropriate American response. An agreement between Artsakh and Azerbaijan was reached on Sept. 20 for getting the power and water supply restored and the wounded moved to safety in Armenia through the Lachin corridor. The Russia-brokered cease-fire basically surrenders the lovely region to Azerbaijan, causing most of the 120,000 residents to want to flee. This exodus is a chilling reminder of the 1915 genocide of more than a million Armenians by the Ottoman Turks, which then served Hitler as a model for his Holocaust.

Once “cleansed” of Christians, historic areas will be vulnerable, and so will precious artifacts. Already, one of the largest churches in the area has been shelled, numerous chapels and monasteries have been damaged or destroyed, and the “best-preserved city of the Hellenistic and Armenian civilizations of the Caucasus” has reportedly been struck repeatedly. This serves to “wipe out evidence of an Armenian Christian past,” according to one Armenian political scientist.

Pray that humanitarian relief channels will be respected and that Christian people and heritage sites will not be mistreated. Ask God to restrain the greed, violence, and territorial ambitions that cause proxy wars and generations of trauma.

We must pray the prayer of Hezekiah for Armenia so God will fight the battle Himself:
2 Chronicles 32:20 King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to heaven about this. 21 And the Lord sent an angel, who annihilated all the fighting men and the commanders and officers in the camp of the Assyrian king. So he withdrew to his own land in disgrace. And when he went into the temple of his god, some of his sons, his own flesh and blood, cut him down with the sword.

22 So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria and from the hand of all others. He took care of them[c] on every side.

Dear Lord God I ask you to save the Armenian people, Christian people and their artifacts. Please send your armies of angels to save their lives from destruction. Save your people Lord. Lord, why do the Christian people have to be singled out for destruction, when they are a people of peace and they build their own prosperity with your blessing, and they do good in the world? Why is there the ethnic cleansing? It is so cruel, Lord. Please save these people of yours!!

Americans and most of the world have no concept of the atrocities committed by the Turks during the 1st Genocide of the 20th Century against the Armenian People and exactly what the Armenians of Artsakh have been fighting against during this most recent war. Azerbaijan broke the truce. They deliberately and systematically cut off access to the only road of relief and escape, in order to starve the Christians. and they cut off internet communication with the outside world. The Artsakh Armenians have surrendered and laid down their weapons. The Azerbaijan and Turkish leaders claim that they can stay as long as they accept Azeri rule. but the Armenians know from painful generational experience just exactly what that means. The destruction of the cultural, historical, religious artifacts and ancient agricultural lands and vineyards should cause the entire world to rally to their defense, but instead, the world turns a blind eye to the ‘ethnic cleansing’ just as they did a century ago.
Armenians know exactly what the euphemism, ‘ethnic cleansing’ means. It means rape and torture of women and children and the castration and execution of the men and boys. It means the looting and theft of all their worldly possessions and homes. Understand what the Armenians already know deep in their hearts, “they can stay as long as they accept Azeri rule” spoken euphemistically, translates to what is still repeated all across the Middle East, into Bosnia and Albania, across the Sahara to the shores of West Africa in the quest for world domination, “Islam or the sword!”
Please demand media and internet coverage and supervision of the forced deportation of the Armenians and the occupation by the Azeris (where there is light the darkness has to flee) as well as provision for the safety, well being , and protection of those who are forced to leave and those who are too old or too weak to leave. Pray for God’s mercy and swift justice to prevail. Pray for the lives of the Artsakh Armenians.
Pray Psalm 35
Humbly asking, begging the world to see and to act.
