“As music plays softly and the Quail Springs Baptist Church prepares to sing ‘Jesus Is Tenderly Calling,’ the guest speaker urges the crowd to bow and pray.
‘Here’s my very simple invitation,’ the fill-in preacher tells the congregation. ‘There’s a God who loves you and will walk with you through some very difficult things. Are you interested in coming to know him?’
It’s a traditional altar call — the kind offered in countless evangelical churches each Sunday.
What makes this one unusual is the person behind the pulpit: U.S. Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., a rising political star who mixes a boyish, Opie Taylor-like face with a booming, bass voice.
In the nation’s capital, Lankford’s weekdays consist of Senate Intelligence Committee hearings into Russian meddling in the U.S. presidential election and frequent cable news appearances to discuss policy questions ranging from national security to health care. . . .
Lankford turned to his faith when a gunman opened fire June 14 on the Republican congressional baseball team: Lankford prayed on the Senate floor for House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., and three others who were wounded.
Despite Lankford’s increasing national prominence, the 49-year-old lawmaker says he remains more a pastor than a politician.
‘This feels more like home,’ Lankford says as familiar church members line up to greet him after the service, telling him they pray for him and encouraging him to remain strong. (Excerpted from Religion News Service, reporting by Bobby Ross Jr.)

GOD BLESS oKSenator Langford.
Oh God our Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, you foreknew this man in the Senate, Mr. Lankford. Stir him always to the cross that all his thoughts as he represent his district and his people and so our nation in the Senate to only speak the truth with courage. As he speaks, Lord, open the ears of his hearers to hear and open their eyes to see his the matter of what is good for the welfare of his constituents and the nation, so that hearts maybe renewed to the glory of Your name. As you did so with Moses, supply the words that he speaks, so lives maybe changed for the plan that you have. Nothing Lord skips Your notice. Surround this man Mr. Lankford and lead him to do Your will for the sake of your most precious Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior who lives and reigns with You in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Thank you for a fine, upstanding Christian man willing to serve this country. May he use his gifts to persuade fellow Senators to follow You first, but then the Constitution of this country which was written by other fine men, some of whom were Christians, but all had the ethics and love of country only You could inspire.

Praise God that you Pastor Lankford have faith in the true Lord God, and may your love of Him be a light for our Congress and the Administration to seek Him, accept Him as personal Savior and Lord, repent, recant of sins (all of us) and follow in His footsteps. His followers are not ashamed to tell others of His love for them and all, by what He did for us on the cross.. a free ticket to Heaven with Him. Can’t earn it, but in response, we need to do as He did, said. God bless your ministry under Him.

Thank you for being fruitful in the midst of a lot of evil put forth by men and women who want to live their lives with man as their God or should I say live a life that has no room for a God who loves them so much. I pray that God’s word shall not return unto you void, but it shall accomplish that which God please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto He sent it.” I pray that Proverbs 2: 1-8 will prosper you in everything you need to in your job as senator. “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, 2) turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— 3) indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, 4) and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, 5) then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. 6) For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7) He holds success in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, 8) for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones.”

Your faithfulness to God will not go unnoticed by Him. I belong to a small prayer group who has prayed together for our nation and its leaders every week for 10 years. We ask for God’s Word to prevail in every circumstance and consider it a blessing to know that we have believers like you, Senator Lankford, in our nation’s capitol.
Thank for that boldness spoken of in Proverbs 28:1. Jesus tells us that when we do not deny Him before men we will not be denied before our Father in heaven. You are being that salt and light in our nations capital as our godly forefathers were in their generation. No weapon formed against you will prosper. Again, thank you for answering the call to serve this nation. As did William Wilberforce, You chose to serve this nation using your faith.
