Postmaster General Louis DeJoy will testify next week before Congress, amid recent changes to the U.S. Postal Service that Democrats and others say are slowing mail delivery and that could delay the results of the November elections.
Critics of the changes by the new postmaster general, a Trump ally and a Republican donor, say they have also endangered millions of Americans who rely on the post office to obtain prescription drugs and other needs, according to the Associated Press.
DeJoy is reportedly scheduled to testify Monday before a House oversight committee.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has called members back to Capitol Hill this week for an emergency vote on the matter. They are expected to vote Saturday on legislation that would prohibit changes at the agency. The package will also include $25 billion to shore up the Postal Service, which faces continued financial losses.
President Trump has warned that states mailing unrequested ballots, because the coronavirus will keep voters away from polls, will result in widespread voter fraud. . . .
On Monday, Trump rejected allegations that he’s trying to slow the mail.
“Wouldn’t do that,” he said. “I have encouraged everybody: Speed up the mail, not slow the mail.”
DeJoy, a former supply-chain CEO who took over the Postal Service in June, has since sparked outcry over delays, new prices and cutbacks, including the limiting of employee overtime.

Because USPS is an arm of our government, there may be a ‘hush’ over normal postal workers to speak out? Here several Postal bldgs were closed; including the biggest @ Franklin St./downtown Houston. NY-1Q20 primary mail-in votes still counting, results still unknown. Presidential 2020 elections is not the time to ‘try’ something new. Praying with our eyes lifted to you only true God, silent evil; arise & shine your glory lifted high.
Most powerful Lord, thwart the thoughts, plans, actions and outcomes of those who are not following your will, who have evil intent and for those whose minds are wanting to follow in ungodly pursuits. Change their hearts. Your ways are often mysterious, Lord. As we Christians cope with prophesy that may, indeed, be unfolding, put a hedge of protection around your children emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally. Let your Holy Spirit be strong in us. Let it guide, direct and equip us. Give us discernment, tools and wisdom to further your will and your kingdom, almighty God. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
Let there be no mail in voting. It’s obvious people can go shopping — they can go vote also. Also, I have to show my ID if I go to a bank to get a check cashed — why not whip one out at a voting toll? The only answer to either question is that people who want mail-in ballots and no I.D. required are bent on corruption. Father, remove corruption from voting and halt the idea of mail-ins. Make it necessary to prove citizenship and make ID necessary at voting polls, in Jesus’ Name
