Pete Hegseth Faces Fiery Confirmation Hearing
Yesterday, Pete Hegseth fended off attacks and answered questions in what was always going to be one of the most contentious confirmation hearings. Will the Senate vote to confirm him?
From Fox News. President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, faced a Senate grilling on Tuesday as lawmakers determine whether they will vote in support of the nominee.
Pray for your fellow intercessor!
Hegseth faced intense questioning from Democrats in his Armed Services Committee hearing, including regarding his previous comments related to women serving in military combat roles, and was also interrupted by protesters who disturbed the hearing at some points. …
Hegseth’s emotional opening remarks
Hegseth became emotional during his opening remarks on Tuesday morning while thanking his wife and other family members for supporting him through the nomination process.
“Thank you to my incredible wife, Jennifer, who has changed my life and been with me throughout this entire process. I love you, sweetheart, and I thank God for you,” he said, beginning to choke up.
“And as Jenny and I pray together every morning, all glory, regardless of the outcome, belongs to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” he said. …
Sen. Hirono claims Hegseth would lead a military invasion of Greenland if confirmed
Democratic Hawaii Sen. Mazie Hirono was slammed on social media Tuesday during the hearing for asking Hegseth if he would lead a military invasion of Greenland if confirmed as the secretary of defense.
“[The] President elect has attacked our allies in recent weeks, refusing to rule out using military force to take over Greenland and the Panama Canal and threatening to take to make Canada the 51st state. Would you carry out an order from President Trump to seize Greenland, a territory of our NATO ally Denmark, by force? Or would you comply with an order to take over the Panama Canal?” Hirono asked on Tuesday. …
Hegseth brushed off Hirono’s question during the hearing, saying, “Trump never strategically tips his hand.”
“I would never publicly state one way or another to direct the orders of the president,” Hegseth responded. …
🚨 BREAKING: Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) accuses Pete Hegseth of planning to use the military to take over Greenland and the Panama Canal.
Lmao.
HIRONO: Would you use the military to take over Greenland or an ally?

Hearing erupts into protests
Hegseth’s opening remarks during the hearing were interrupted by a handful of protesters, as they shouted at the nominee about the war in Israel, and called him both a “Christian Zionist” and a “misogynist.”
“Veterans are committing suicide and are homeless, but we send money to bomb children in Gaza,” one female protester wearing fatigues shouted as she was escorted from the hearing, Fox News Digital video shows.
At least three protesters were seen being hauled out of the hearing in zipties or with their hands behind their backs.
“You are a misogynist,” one protester shouted at Hegseth. …
Hegseth repeatedly grilled on support of women in combat roles
The nominee was repeatedly grilled by senators regarding his previous comments on women serving in combat roles, including by Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Joni Ernst.
“You say we need moms, but not in the military, especially in combat units. So specific to Senator Cotton’s question, because Senator Cotton was giving you layups to differentiate between different types of combat. Specifically as secretary, would you take any action to reinstitute the combat arms exclusion for female service members knowing full well you have hundreds of women doing that job right now,” Gillibrand asked.
Her question referred to Hegseth’s 2024 book, which states: “Dads push us to take risks. Moms put the training wheels on our bikes. We need moms. But not in the military, especially not in combat units.”
Hegseth pushed back that his argument related to women serving in the military focuses on military standards not eroding.
“Senator, I appreciate your comments. And I would point out I’ve never disparaged women serving in the military. I respect every single female service member that has put on the uniform, past and present. My critiques, senator, recently and in the past, and from personal experience, have been instances where I’ve seen standards lowered,” he responded. …
Ernst also pressed Hegseth on what efforts he would take to combat sexual assault within the ranks, noting it is one of her top three concerns surrounding the military. …
“So, as secretary of Defense, will you appoint a senior level official dedicated to sexual assault prevention and response?” she asked.
Hegseth said that, as they had previously discussed, he would appoint an official to such a role. …

We Prayed We are urgently interceding Fir P. Hegseth
We Prayed.
God takes those that He has selected for leadership on a journey of preparation that takes years. Look at the 40 years Moses spent in Egypt and then the 40 years he spent in the desert. Look at David who was on the run from Saul for years. Look at Jospeh who spent years as a slave, time in prison and then years in administration roles. We are in a time of crisis and are facing the combined might of China, Russia, North Korea and Iran who have been preparing and studying our weaknesses for years. There is the possibility that we might be in a confrontation in less than two years. Suggesting that there are better candidates than Hegseth is not a personal attack against Trump or him. Even Trump seems to have had second thoughts because he suggested DeSantis as an alternate. We need an extraordinary person to step into this role. Someone who can think in original ways but is steeped in knowledge of military strategy but also someone on top of new technologies and understands our enemies and their strategies and keen administration skills. That kind of skill level is something few people have. I believe God foresaw this moment and has been preparing someone.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I pray that all America’s military leaders be endowed first with these things: A deep and abiding love for God, your word and the ability to be led by the Holy Spirit. When our leaders are endowed with your power, you cover their lack of skill and knowledge. However, without being able to be led by You, all decisions may stem from the arm of flesh, and you have warned humanity to put their faith and trust in you before, during and after every battle. Amen.
I like Jim’s insightful remark. God understands our limitations as human beings. He knows that in order for us to be trusted with leadership roles and especially roles that are beyond what most people are expected to know, that years are needed. He does not take over our minds. He does not download understanding. He puts us in an environment so we can absorb knowledge. Yes, he does guide but someone has to have spent years in the silence of a desert in order to hear His gentle, small voice. I notice that Hegseth has jumped from foot soldier to being in the midst of the world and even could be said at the center of worldly attention. In the middle of this he started drinking heavily and crossed lines with his marriage which indicates that he had problems resisting its devastating power. This went on for years. He is just now starting to right his boat, so to speak. I don’t see any period of his life that was spent in the desert, out of the limelight, a period of time where in the silence he could have learned to hear God. Even Moses who spoke to God face to face was prepared for his role to lead for 80 years. If Moses had to go through that, I would think that any person God could lead would also have similarly been prepared.
Even George Washington went through a period of preparation when he led men into battles during the French and Indian War before he assumed command over the army during the Revolutionary War.
God does not want robots who He leads by the nose. He wants mature sons and daughters who understand His mind. are filled with His wisdom and who are able to drown out the noise of the world to the point that they can hear His voice. The perfect person for this job would be someone who was prepared by God for this role and has deep knowledge and understanding of the military and of God, but such a person may not be available. Our second choice would be a man who is honorable, has a love of country and has depth of knowledge and has the ability to see solutions missed by everyone else. Such a person may not necessarily be Godly, and he could be someone who it is not easy to like. But to get through what might be coming, we certainly need someone who has current knowledge of our military, understands how to lead from the top and knows something about cyber warfare and even programming and technology because any confrontation with China, like in Ukraine, will involve facing an enemy that is constantly changing their weapons to get around our counter measures.
I like this dedicated veteran. I like and respect his ideas. I believe he would make a great Secretary of Defense and am praying for his confirmation to be done….YES. He has experience, caring, and a love for our nation. I believe He listens to God and would be a good addition to the cabinet of President Trump.
The lack of regard by IFA for the level of skill needed to command a multi-dimensional military which involves complicated technologies which are constantly changing is disturbing. Apparently, they think you can take any foot soldier, even an old one, or a journalist, as in this case, and put them over one of the largest militaries the world has seen and at a time when warfare has changed overnight, and they have all the skills necessary to command. Or, in other words, no skill or knowledge is necessary.
It is very easy to be unconventual, IFA. Being ‘unconventual’ only counts is if someone being unconventual actually has real world solutions that are those no one else has seen and are solutions which can be implicated. Hegseth mentioned no solutions, conventual or unconventual. He just made canned speeches that were noncommittal and vague that showed no real grasp of the situation.
unconventional
He’s a joke.
I think the the attacks on him has more to do with him being a Christian than anything else.
I would think character was also a problem. If while married to woman A, you have a child by woman B, and then are reported to have raped woman C – who withdraws the accusation when you pay her a large sum – then marry woman B – it speaks for itself. I know Mr Trump also paid off a sexual partner so it must be OK. Then there is inebriation at work and financial dodginess.
Still a great pick.
The WSJ had an insightful article with graphs showing the number of nuclear warheads owned by which countries and their range (all of them having the United States within their ranges.) I find it disappointing that none of the senators asked any questions about homeland security. How did Hegseth think we could defend ourselves against hypersonic missiles or what does he see as being our strategy for defending key sites and our populations from drone strikes. I don’t know what was more disappointing, our senators or Hegseth.
Hegseth is clearly not qualified. Now I wonder about whether our senators are fit to lead.
Hegseth’s head is still in the military as it was in the 1990’s during the height of the Iraq war. Land warfare has changed, and military manufacturers that were making big money in the 1919s no longer exist. And the war that we will face will probably be mostly naval (of which he has no experience) and will involve rapidly changing technologies (of which he also has no experience). It will involve cyber-attacks (of which he has no experience). Satellites will be involved (of which he has no experience). Nothing that he said indicates that he is aware of what the challenges are that the military today is facing.
God help us, if he becomes head of Defense.
1990s
Actually, it was not ‘firey’. The Republicans who prepped him for a week asked him prepared questions so that he could make his prepared speeches. It was disappointing that the senators on the Arms committee didn’t ask more penetrating questions such as ‘since some are discussing the wisdom of building more aircraft carriers because they are an easy target for Chinese missiles what are your thoughts on this and what would your military strategy in the South China Sea?’ Or, since by now everyone understands that our shipbuilding capability (Hegseth gets no credit for in his last statement admitting this) and our ability to manufactures military hardware is down, how will you turn the situation around quickly since it takes years to build factories and train people. Or what do you see is the waste that the military needs to trim.
