This past Friday, Nancy Pelosi announced her bid for reelection. As she attempts to regain her spot in the House, we felt it was important to share one of IFA’s most reprinted articles.
The following article appeared in IFA’s very first newsletter. Its author, John G. Talcott Jr., served as the founding president of IFA and president of the Plymouth Rock Foundation headquartered in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

A review of the Christian influence in the development of our constitutional form of government shows that the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut was the first written constitution known to history which created a government and from which the government of the United States is of lineal descent. It was inspired by and had its origin in a sermon preached by Rev. Thomas Hooker in Hartford on May 31, 1638. Rev. Hooker took as his sermon text Deuteronomy 1:13. “Take your wise men, and understanding, and known among your tribes, and I will make them rulers over you…captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds—over fifties—over tens, etc.” From this biblical injunction Rev. Hooker reasoned that:
“The choice of public magistrates belongs unto the people by God’s own allowance.
“The privilege of each election which belongs unto the people, therefore, must not be exercised according to their humors, but according to the blessed law of God.
“They who have the power to appoint officers and magistrates, it is their power, also, to set the bounds of the power and place unto which they call them.”
In 1964, Mr. Samuel Willard wrote an article entitled, “The Character of a Good Ruler.” The following excerpts from that article provide inspiration and a guide as we ask God to raise up men and women of Christian character to represent us in our government:
“Now that all these may be just, it is firstly required that they have a principle of moral honesty in them; that they live righteousness and hate iniquity; that they be ‘men of truth’ (Ex. 18:21) for every man will act in his relation, according to the principle that rules in him, so that an unrighteous man will be an unrighteous ruler…as he hath an opportunity.
“He must be one that respects the cause, and not just the persons in all his administrations, ‘Ye shall not respect persons in judgment.” (Deut. 1:17) If his affections over sway his judgment at any time, they will be a crooked bias, that will turn him out of the way [of justice].
“He must be one whom neither flattery nor bribery may be able to remove out of his way. “Thou shalt not wrest judgment, thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift.” (Deut. 16:19) He must be one who hates both ambition and covetousness. (Ex. 18:21)
“Finally, he must be one who prefers the public benefit above all private and separate interests whatsoever. Every man in his place owes himself to the good of the whole, and if he doth not so devote himself, he is unjust; and he who either to advance himself, or to be revenged on another; will push on injurious laws, or pervert the true attention of such as are in force, is an unjust man; and he who is under the influence of a narrow spirit, will be ready to do so, as occasion offers.
“Nor is this justice to be looked upon as separate from the fear of God, but as influenced and maintained by it. He therefore that ruleth in the fear of God,’ is one who acknowledgeth God to be his Sovereign and carries in his heart an awful fear of Him; who owns his commission to be from Him and expects [before] long to be called to give an account of his managing it; which maketh him to study in all things to please Him, and to be afraid of doing [anything] that will provoke Him.”
Let us unite our prayers, vote in an informed manner, and believe God to raise up righteous men and women to govern us, for “righteousness exalteth a nation.” (Proverbs 14:34)

All leaders are under the authority of God. I pear for leaders that know that Truth
People like Pelosi are unable to give up their perceived power & control. They are so deceived into thinking they offer something even though they are in it for total greedy & selfish reasons. Since people like her & others are past the point of no return, just give them over to God & ask that they be removed in anyway God sees fit. Pelosi continues to hide behind her veil of religion, thinking she can work against God while she, at the
same time, destroys any resemblance of morality, preservation of life or adherence to our laws. God makes the final determination of the point of no return but the fruit on every tree in Pelosi’s garden is rotten with decay & death. Remember to pray for her because she is lost & has been for decades.

Dear Lord, Nancy Peloci , who has enriched herself by trading stocks on issues that were and are before the house, tantamount to insider trading, of which would get the rest of us incarcerated. You cannot hold a Judaeo Christian perspective of the world and willingly pursue killing children up to and including birth. That is nothing short of infanticide. I think that thoughtless rude RULE characterizes Pelosi, and what she stands for is no different than the sacrifices of babies to Baal in the Old Testament. It is not humbling to God, it is self-worship. Jesus didn’t paint flowers speaking to the Pharisees, so if you think the truth should not be spoken then I would say you’re being led on the path of destruction by deceivers. Dear Lord, help us to follow Your Way, not our own. Remove the deceivers from holding office in both houses.

Well, she is not running for the senate, doesn’t have to, her district will re-elect her to the house, 80+% of the vote. One only need look at her district to figure out why. None the less we knew what you meant.

Thank you for printing this very pertinent and serious acclamation of what constitutes a true and just description of what an elected official should be. I hope thousands upon thousands of voters read it with intent, especially those in California. Our Lord knows how that state needs sane and just leaders.

We pray our leaders would seek Your will first and then employ it. You imply that she represents the Catholic faith as if Judas Iscariot represents all disciples of Christ. Do you give Protestant Evangelicals who focus on monetary and material gain a pass? Mary is the First Christian-you won’t find this in scriptures so that makes it false? Also, Revelation 5:8 we read “the prayers of the saints.” Can we assume that Mary is the greatest of saints? Does this have to be in scriptures to be true? Is she alive with the saints in heaven and permitted to pray for Her offspring? (Biblical if we interpret Revelation 12:17 with humility and understanding) Or is God Almighty, the Holy Trinity, One God so petty that he censors prayers from the saints who are already with Him just like the current evil powers that censor truth and facts to control and spew a false narrative?
Roberta, you are correct that Mary needed a Savior and that Jesus is the only intercessor between man and the Father but you (& most Protestants) miss that her whole purpose is to bring us closer to her son our Lord Jesus Christ.

Now I’m not a catholic but taught in a school for a few years and I can tell you the mass is way more spiritual than any evangelical churches I’ve been too which can be very noisy and way too sensational a lot of the times & sermon was the big deal. Also always scripture readings and some priests gave better sermons than others but as one nun once told me: “We don’t go to mass for music and sermons but to receive the body soul and divinity of Christ in the eucharist. I never forgot that but it still hits me pretty hard. And one more thing, why do a lot of evangelical christians bash the catholics but are fine with all these motivational speakers posing as pastors and making ALLOT of money in the process? seems to me the only thing allot of evangelicals agree on is that the catholic church is phony. It actually makes me want to be a catholic.
Lord, I pray for Pelosi’s SOUL (along with many other political leaders), that she would repent, turn from her evil ways, and ask Jesus in to her heart.
But I also humbly beseech You to REMOVE her, and others like her, from office, from re-election, from re-appointments, from re-assignment in ANY/ALL Government positions and ANY/ALL positions of influence and authority.
We ask for righteous leaders, righteous influencers, in our land!
We cry out to You for mercy, we cry our to You for judgement, and we cry out to You for JUSTICE! Heal our land, re-establish our roots in You, restore America according to our founding fathers, and SAVE America!
Not just for the sake of America and her people, but for the sake of the world, and for Your name’s sake. Lord, SHOW US YOUR GLORY in America.
May YOUR praises abound east to west, north to south, ocean to ocean, border to border.
Come, heal our land. Come, save America.
