[A]nd take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints . . . (Ephesians 6:17-18 ESV)
We are very familiar with this passage that speaks to the sword of the Spirit and its use to stand against the enemy. However, I want to call attention to specific directives concerning the sword that are often overlooked.
Notice, it says to take the sword and then pray in the Spirit. I personally believe this not only means to pray “by” the unction and infilling of the Holy Spirit, but to actually pray “in” the Holy Spirit with our spiritual prayer language. Though it is true that we can pray “in the Spirit” through worship and a heart submitted to Holy Spirit, something happens when we pray beyond our human understanding and language.
Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)
God is Spirit and He has His own language. He has given us this ability to pray in His language in order to align with His heart and perfect will (see 1 Cor 12:8-10). Whether it is through a heavenly language, groanings, or weeping, these expressions of His heart are powerful weapons in the Spirit to bypass demonic interference and go directly to the throne of God with our intercession.
Notice, too, that the purpose and goal of our prayers is to pray for each other. It says “to that end” we are to stay alert and persevere in our prayers for “all the saints.” Why? Because we are being told to STAND TOGETHER. We are not supposed to yield our ground, but to simply put on the armor of God and STAND OUR GROUND while the Lord Himself fights our battles. We must pray for each other to stay strong so that our united front will not allow the enemy to get past our prayers.
But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. (Jude 1:20-21)
The demonic activity on the earth is on the increase. Yet, we have been given tools that far surpass any demonic strategy or scheme. Let us wisely use the sword of the Spirit by interceding in the Spirit, encouraging one another, and standing strong as a united army. Let us spend more time praying for one another than we do warring against the enemy. Let us pray in the Spirit to align perfectly with heaven’s activities and agenda. Let us build ourselves up by worshipping and praying in the Holy Spirit to keep our hearts pure and our minds clear so that the gates of hell will not prevail.
I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)

I wrote this poem after reading Warren Weirsbe’s book “The Strategy of satan.”
It is intended to be easy to memorize while retaining the specificity of the power.
Putting on the Armor
First the helmet of Salvation purchased with Christ’s precious blood
Then the breastplate of Righteous woven with His love
Next the belt of Truth to keep me safe from satan’s vicious lies
And the shield of Faith for from the tomb my Savior did arise
Then the shoes of piece so I may run where the faint have never trod
To carry forth my two-edged Sword the awesome Word of God
I believe it is imperative that we put on the armor daily.
Matthew Henry’s commentary describes the two-edged Sword as being identical to the knife used by the priests to carve the Holocaust sacrifice….

Father, in the name of Jesus, lets unite and establish a 24/7 prayer watch for our nation. Let’s pray to God for intercessors to cover our nation in prayer . We need 24 intercessors or more praying to cover our nation around the clock. There are 8 prayer watches: 1)6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, 2) 9:00 pm to 12:00am,3)12:00am to 3:00am,4)3:00am to 6:00 am,5) 6:00am to 9:00 am,6)9:00 am to 12:00pm,7) 12:00pm to 3:00pm, 8) 3:00pm to 6:00pm. Some one with computer skill set up 24 hour clock so intercessors can sign up. I recall David asking God for a strategy to fight a battle. Prayer is the battle. Lets engage. Lets set up a watch and get to praying. My five stones.

In harmony with this glorious truth is the Scriptural teaching about the authority Jesus gives us to stand effectively against the devil. “Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (Jas.4:7) Consider also Luke 10:19,and Jesus statement about us being salt and light in the world. So it is that until Jesus takes us home, we resist and restrain even the revealing of the antichrist (II Thes. 2:3-8) So let us be encouraged and stand boldly in the Lord (Eph. 6:10-18) using both the sword and prayer!

God’s Word brings unity, up lifts & encourages us to stand firm in & on HIS Word & when we’ve done all to stand Keep Standing & Believing & Trusting in Him alone, HE’s our Solid Rock! As the song goes, My Hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood & righteousness, I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. “The Solid Rock” an old hymn I remember from my youth has much to say as all the old hymns also do. Let us keep binding up the enemy & losing his hold on those who are held captive that salvation of lost souls will be saved. Love never fails & Love has concoursed All!

I touch and agree with this article. God has given us so many tools to come against, stand against and overcome the wiles of Satan. One of the many erroneous messages out there is that “tongues are not for today.” How wrong this statement is. We all know that one of Satan’s tactics is to keep the saints in ignorance. Many of us have fallen victim to believing what a particular Pastor, Evangelist or other Church Leader; Man, tells us instead of what GOD tells us. If GOD say we are to “pray in the Spirit” then we pray in the Spirit. I really like how sister Wanda Alger has cast a light on this truth and confirmed it through Scripture.
Many times I don’t know what to pray; especially when my heart is heavy. During these times I receive the unction from the Holy Spirit to pray in tongues. While praying in tongues (in the Spirit, holy language) I can go on and on and soon my thoughts become clear. As we know, this is a powerful tool to confound the demons, devils and Satan himself because they don’t know what we are saying.

I believe tongues is the complete prayer & a weapon against the enemy. I don’t pray often enough in tongues, but I will. Satan & his demon’s assignments

I believe Satan has achieved a victory in the church when most Christians do not believe that praying in tongues is a gift from God that is used today. Holy spirit, open our eyes to see the power in praying in your language which the enemy does not understand. That is how we can pray without ceasing. It is by praying in tongues, the heavenly language. Your mind does not have to be engaged so you can pray anytime, anywhere. Thank you Jesus for this wonderful gift that you have given us.
