I Prayed have prayed
Dear Lord, give us insight into the destructive dynamics that have been rocking our universities. Allow us to see the spiritual roots of these protests, and avoid making assumptions and generalizations about the students who share the same colleges as these pro-Palestine radicals. Give them eyes to see, Lord, that they may be awakened to your truth. Give the silent majority of students the courage to stand up to these radicals.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

It’s that time of the year. The back-to-school season is upon us, and with it, many college students have already begun protesting for the “pro-Palestine” cause. What America has seen of these protests has been alarming. But like most media coverage, the focus has been on chaos and little else. Due to this, many have come to assume generalized assumptions about what university students believe. However, a recent survey offers a more complete understanding of the actual dynamics on campus, and according to an article from the Times of Israel, most students (thankfully) don’t identify with these radical ideals. However, a concerning number of young people still do.

Post a prayer for your state!

Around one-third of non-Jewish college students embraced patterns of ideas hostile to Jews or Israel during the 2023-24 academic year, according to a new study by Brandeis University researchers.

The study, published Thursday by the university’s Maurice and Marilyn Cohen Center for Modern Jewish Studies, helps paint a clearer picture of the attitudes undergirding the widespread tensions over Israel and Gaza that spread across campuses last year, leading to disruptive protests and university crackdowns.

It found that about 15 percent of students surveyed were hostile to Israel, with many believing, for example, that Israel has no right to exist. It also found that nearly a quarter of non-Jewish students overall said they did not want to be friends with people who support Israel’s existence as a Jewish state, a stance the survey said had the effect of “ostracizing nearly all of their Jewish peers.”

The survey found that 16% of non-Jewish students were hostile to Jews but not to Israel, believing in enduring anti-Semitic ideas such as that Jews have too much power in America. Two percent of respondents were hostile to both Jews and Israel, and exhibited the highest rate of anti-Semitic attitudes.

Most non-Jewish students, 66%, were not hostile to Jews or Israel, the survey said (Read more here).

This study gives a nuanced profile of the student protests that have been loudly presented in recent months across college campuses. The goal for the survey’s organizers was to present a picture different from the images that have been blasted across mainstream media. Len Saxe, one of the survey’s co-authors, is against the idea of student bodies being treated like a homogenous monolith of anti-Semitism.

“We can’t treat everybody, we can’t treat all students, as if they have these prejudices toward Jews and Israel,” Saxe said. “I think it gives us a full perspective on the problem and helps us target the solutions.”

He’s correct in this assertion. As stated above, most Non-Jewish students (66%) are not hostile to Israel. All the noise we are seeing and hearing across the nation comes from a very loud and disruptive minority of students who want to see the dissolution of Israel.  Interestingly, this survey also shows that many non-Jewish students are confused about what they even believe.

Among the students described as not hostile to Jews or Israel, 25% still believed that Israel’s supporters control the media, while more than one in 10 had favorable views of Hamas. The rest of their beliefs, however, were inconsistent with antisemitic or anti-Israel thinking, Saxe said.

Some young people have latched onto anti-Semitic rhetoric without even understanding their views. If they were exposed to the truth, rather than propaganda, many of these students would likely realize how flawed these ideologies really are. Overall, this survey is evidence that all is not lost in America’s universities. It is easy to fall into the trap of assuming that the vast majority of college students today are anti-Israel. As stated before, the voices of anti-Semitism that permeate the mainstream are really the voices of a very clamorous and insistent minority.  They do not represent the ideals of their entire generation or even their fellow classmates. They only represent the ideals of Hamas.

When did the heads of our universities lose their authority? I don’t understand the deplorable disrespect of the heads of our colleges, that students can just do what they want instead of being obedient. This needs to stop and students need to respect authority or else get kicked out of school. We need to get tougher on these know-it-alls. Pray for tougher rules and obedience in our schools.

These Palestinian sympathizers are breaking the law and should not be negotiated with or tolerated. So it is not up to some bureaucrat to decide whether to arrest them it should be automatic. They should each get maximum penalty in the law maybe then the anti American backers funds will dry up faster at least that is a better source revenue than taxes or higher tuitions. Besides hamas indoctrinates the people at very young age to hate Jews and if you disagree with them you will be dealt with severely maybe even death. I Trust in God to take care of it all.

It would be very helpful to have a comparison study of the faculty at these universities.
What percentage of the faculty are Pro- Hamas and Anti Israel? What percentage are anti-Semeitic?
What percentage are pro-Israel and supportive of Jews?
Where are the faculty voices in all this?

I believe people are looking at this incorrectly. The correct way to look at this is that 34% of students enrolled are either hostile to Jews, to Israel, or to both. That is not very promising.

Most people are ignorant about God’s love for the Jewish people. Since the Lord loves the Jewish people, then no matter what I have experienced or not experienced on the part of the Jews matters little. A person might have been shafted by some Godless Jew, but this does not let him or her off of loving the Jew just because God does.

I appreciate this report. It highlights the fact that if a minority, no matter how small, makes a lot of noise, they get the attention. I pray God would turn the protestors’ hearts to himself and give the students who do not hate Jews and Israel a voice. Give them courage to speak. Open the mouths of Christian students so they may speak truth.

No right to exist is Iran’s position, also leaked into the stance of their subsidiaries, Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthis. It is not the stance of all the Palestinian people. Despite the chaos, what is being protested is the killing of the indigenous population amounting to genocide. Remember, we did that to the Native Americans – and it wasn’t any more acceptable. Seems like both sides are engaging in denying the other’s right to exist. Israel has the right to exist, and so do Palestinians. We need to stop killing each other. I don’t think eradication of people – any people – is a Christian position.

My college age grandson said he went to a local protest recently so I asked him what they were protesting and he didn’t know, he just went because some friends were going – I believe that’s the mentality of most young people

Dearest Heavenly Father: Keep shining your revealing light into the dark recesses in our country. You promise to expose and bring to light all things done in the dark. That even whispered lies will be shouted from the rooftops. (Luke 12:2 and 3) Open the eyes of these young people to the truth and protect your people Israel. I am amazed that anyone would look at the attacks from Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran and glorify or sanction that. I pray these young people will pick up your word Father and see that you have always and will continue to protect your people. I thank you God that you are in control, that nothing escapes you and that YOUR WILL will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. To you be ALL Power, Honor, Glory and Praise for you ALONE are worthy to be Praised.

Lord we pray for the students that are at peace in these colleges and Universities. We ask you God to intervene In the intolerance to Jewish students and their piers . We command the lawlessness to stop in our universities. We loose the power and the blood of our Savior Jesus to protect our children and grandchildren in these universities from propaganda that could turn their hearts to lawlessness. We plead the blood over lawful activities in our schools and high schools and colleges . We ask you God to send angels on assignment to protect innocent lives from the evil of this world . Re direct to hate speech and violence against Jewish people to the very sources that are communicating these lies .
Loose the tongue of lawful American citizens to stand up for righteousness. We break the silence that our politicians have imposed on Christian’s from people speaking up for their liberties in America. We turn the enemies purposes and plan for destroying our nation causing chaos in our country to themselves that those being used by the enemy Satan , will awaken to the truth in Jesus Christ and begin to speak in favor of the gospel and lawfulness . Mend up the broken hearted and set captives free. In Jesus name . Turn it around Lord as if scales have been removed from their eyes . In Jesus name ,amen!
