As believers across America observed the National Day of Prayer, Intercessors for America President and CEO David Kubal joined Pray with America’s Leaders to reflect on the history, spiritual significance, and growing global impact of this uniquely American tradition. From celebrations in Washington, D.C., to expanding prayer movements overseas, the discussion highlighted how prayer continues to shape both America’s future and the nations watching her example.

Kubal explained that the National Day of Prayer was originally established during the Cold War as part of America’s response to atheistic communism. In 1952, Congress passed legislation requiring the president to issue an annual proclamation recognizing a national day of prayer. Just a few years later, America adopted “In God We Trust” as the national motto and added the phrase “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance. According to Kubal, these actions reflected a deliberate effort by American leaders to distinguish the United States from the godless ideology spreading through communist nations at the time.

The webcast also highlighted the remarkable spiritual atmosphere surrounding this year’s National Day of Prayer observances in Washington. Kubal and Pray with America’s Leaders host Kris Kubal described participating in a special gathering in Statuary Hall at the U.S. Capitol alongside House Speaker Mike Johnson, faith leaders, and government officials. Speaker Johnson reportedly led attendees in a prayer of rededication, using his personal Bible during the ceremony. The couple also discussed a White House observance hosted by the administration’s faith office, noting Intercessors for America’s involvement in helping sponsor the event.

One of the most powerful moments in the webcast came as David Kubal shared how the National Day of Prayer concept has now spread internationally — most notably to Ukraine. After years of partnership through Intercessors for Ukraine, leaders in that nation passed their own National Day of Prayer law in 2025. Kubal recounted how lawmakers and national leaders in Ukraine embraced prayer as a strategic response to both war and the lingering effects of communism. During this year’s observance, European leaders gathered in Kyiv alongside Ukrainian officials to honor the day and pray for the nation.

Throughout the discussion, Kubal repeatedly emphasized that prayer is not merely symbolic, but a spiritual weapon against destructive ideologies such as communism, Marxism, secularism, and radical anti-Christian movements. He warned that while many Americans increasingly flirt with socialist and Marxist ideas, nations that actually suffered under those systems are urgently seeking spiritual freedom and biblical foundations. According to Kubal, America must rediscover and strengthen its Christian heritage rather than surrendering cultural ground to secular or anti-Christian influences.

The webcast also focused heavily on the growing Rededicate America movement tied to the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Kubal encouraged believers to participate in local rededication ceremonies through the American Spiritual Heritage Project and invited Christians nationwide to gather in Washington, D.C., July 3–4 for IFA’s Rededicate America celebration at the Museum of the Bible. The event will feature worship, prayer, teaching, and national rededication led by Christian leaders including Dutch Sheets, Danny Gokey, and Jim Garlow.

As America celebrates both the 75th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer and the 250th anniversary of the nation itself, the message of the webcast was clear: America’s future depends on returning to God. Intercessors were encouraged not only to pray for the nation, but also to actively reclaim and rededicate their homes, communities, counties, and states to the Lord.
