I just had to block a friend on social media over a disagreement about facts. He’s committed to the legacy media narratives about political and social issues, and I’m reading more broadly. As a result of our differences he was raging at me.

Bias Leading to Misinformation

Victor Davis Hanson estimates that Donald Trump received “95% negative media coverage” before he was elected for his second term. Now that a majority of our citizens chose him to lead, the legacy media is still not on board. Because of its bias, we need to be on the watch for misinformation that is bound to flow from that position.

There are at least three topics where we should be on our guard these days:

Confirmation Hearings and President Trump Appointees

Though he bears the name Kennedy, RFK Jr. has taken fire from the left because he’s joined forces with President Trump. Leading up to his nomination hearings as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, which started yesterday, there have been claims that he’s an “Anti-Vaxxer.”

During the hearing Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) claimed Kennedy had said, “No vaccine is safe and effective.” Kennedy said that quote was taken out of context and asked, “Every medicine has people who are sensitive to them, including vaccines, right?” He went on to clarify, “I support the measles vaccine. I support the polio vaccine. I will do nothing as HHS Secretary that makes it difficult or discourages people from taking [vaccines],”

Thankfully he is aware of the dangers of mRNA vaccines and signed a petition in 2021 to stop those vaccinations for children as young as six. Kennedy signed because children that young have a “zero risk” of contracting COVID-19.

Kennedy is only the latest appointee to face false accusations. Pete Hegseth endured similar a “smear campaign” before being confirmed as Defense Secretary.

Deportations

President Trump is making good on campaign promises to fix immigration problems, but legacy media has been bashing the arrests and deportations while deemphasizing the relief they’re bringing.

One thing legacy media is omitting is the fact that more than half of registered voters support mass deportations.

Legacy media is also deemphasizing the relief coming from the deportations that are focused on criminals with warrants for their arrest.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, wearing body armor, joined officers from the Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Homeland Security, the Secret Service, US Marshals, and the New York Police Department Special Operations unit to take down criminal migrants, and on Monday Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “said it made 1,179 arrests and lodged 853 detainers.”

The New York Post reported, “NYC minority communities cheer ICE raids that rounded up violent criminal migrants: ‘Get them the h*** off the street!’” (The article itself also includes vulgarities.)

Legacy media is also making claims like this: “Trump’s sweeping immigration crackdown targets some legal means to enter U.S., too.” But that kind of headline oversimplifies a very complex issue.

For example, by the time you’re reading this, President Trump may have already signed an executive order “instructing all federal agencies to identify civil and criminal authorities available to combat antisemitism — including finding ways to deport anti-Jewish activists who violated laws.” Those students may be here legally, but President Trump is using their non-resident status to protect our Jewish citizens. That’s an answer to our prayers!

The Office of Management Budget (OMB) Freeze

On January 27 the OMB issued this statement:

In implementing President Trump’s Executive Orders, OMB issued guidance requesting that agencies temporarily pause, to the extent permitted by law, grant, loan or federal financial assistance programs that are implicated by the President’s Executive Orders.

Before the Trump Administration rescinded the memo there was a great uproar.

The Epoch Times reported some overreactions, including these:

“The blast radius of Trump’s terrible, unconstitutional, and illegal decision to halt virtually all federal grants and loans is virtually limitless,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer  (D-N.Y.) wrote on X.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) said: “We could see a screeching halt to resources for child care, cancer research, housing, police officers, opioid addiction treatment, rebuilding roads and bridges, and even disaster relief efforts.”

Pray for the new administration as they consider other strategies for accomplishing the goal of the freeze. As the memo states:

To act as faithful stewards of taxpayer money, new administrations must review federal programs to ensure that they are being executed in accordance with the law and the new President’s policies.

Things Are Changing Constantly!

Because President Trump is moving rapidly to fulfill all of his campaign promises things are happening fast.

The article I drew from about Kennedy was posted three minutes before I found it.

While writing about the overreaction to the OMB freeze my wife Joyce told me it was rescinded!

As intercessors we need to stay on top of the news as much as we can, but we’re not always going to be able to keep up. We can’t fight the details! This is a spiritual war. Remember that the One we’re praying to is on top of it all.

Pray Luke 8:17: For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.

Pray the bias, misinformation, half-truths, and outright lies will fall on deaf ears and the truth will come out.

We need to wait on the Lord for discernment and revelation.

We need to know when we should engage, and when we need to be silent… or block friends on social media. By the way, I think that’s the second time I’ve ever done that, and I’m certainly not recommending we block everyone we disagree with!

To be fair, President Trump is not helping with some of his overly broad statements and rhetoric. For example my friend attacked me because I reposted the President’s post on Truth Social:

The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond. The days of putting a Fake Environmental argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER. Enjoy the water, California!!!

Turns out President Trump exaggerated, using hyperbole to celebrate his executive order that Interior and Commerce secretaries “immediately take actions to override existing activities that unduly burden efforts to maximize water deliveries.” The military didn’t enter California, but his post gave a lot of fodder for negative press.

So pray President Trump speaks and posts wisely.

Mostly we need Holy Spirit’s help to laser focus our prayers, that the Lord might use the next four years to trample the antichrist spirit that has arisen and make way for the revival we’re experiencing to break out into the next Great Awakening!
