After several Republicans promised to vote against him, Mike Johnson just barely managed to hold on to the speaker’s gavel in Friday’s vote.

The Louisiana Republican won along party lines during the first round of voting, a stark contrast to his predecessor’s drawn-out, 15-round battle in 2023.
It comes despite saber-rattling by some conservatives who threatened to withhold support from Johnson in protest of his handling of government funding and several other issues in the 118th Congress.
Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., who was part of an unsuccessful push to oust Johnson last year, was the speaker-designate’s most vocal critic leading up to the Friday vote. …
Johnson also had a key backer in Trump, who emphasized his support for the GOP leader hours before the midday vote. …
His victory marks the start of his first full term as speaker. Johnson won the gavel in October 2023 after three weeks of closed-door talks following the ouster of ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

How grateful we are that You heard our prayers for Mike Johnson. Even though it was a close call on the first round of voting, Your will was done and Speaker Johnson was sworn in. We pray for Your continued hedge of protection to surround our Speaker. That he would make You and Your word first priority in his life as well as in the decisions he makes moment by moment.

I knew not if FATHER would or would not allow Speaker Mike Johnson to remain Speaker. I remembered that Moses watched a battle down below the hill he stood on and noticed that the Israelites prevailed when he held up his shepherd’s staff – but fell behind when he lowered his staff. I prayed to Father to let Mike Johnson remain as Speaker, only if it was according to HIS WILL, and as a sign of faith, I would hold my right hand up in the air while the voting went on. That took a long time. My hand went numb several times and I had to hold my right arm up with my left arm at times. At one point the Holy Spirit seemed to give me the feeling Mike would win. In the end, at first it appeared my effort of faith before GOD was for nothing and that I’d misread that feeling I thought was from the Holy Spirit. Then within a few minutes, 2 of the representatives changed their votes and Mike was declared the new Speaker. I don’t know how many times I have gone back to FATHER in prayer giving thanks for Mike’s re-election. I’m just an old woman now in a wheelchair since I broke my leg Aug 19.,but feel so blessed in my experience before GOD, praying for what I hoped He would allow according to HIS will. We pray, God hears. God answers.

Johnson is a major disappointment. He says he’s a Christian but many of his actions don’t align with that. Since no other GOP representative stepped up to be Speaker, he was our only choice. Pray he turns back to Jesus and makes more righteous decisions in the future. If not, Congress can vote him out later.

I am not jumping for joy. Johnson has shown that will make deals with the democrats and rinos to pass a ridiculous budget even tried to pass the first budget which was worse. It should not take thousands of pages, it just shows that the government is exponentially too big. I am not sure of Trump’s choices and I pray that God guide them to do God’s will. With all that being said I trust in God’s plan and that God is in control. I ask for God’s forgiveness in my distrust of those that God has chosen for us at this time.

I see the picture of a sweet fragrance rising all around you and am I am reminded of Psalm 141:2- May my prayer come to you (the psalmist David speaking to God) like the sweet smell of incense. When I lift up my hands in prayer, may it be like the evening sacrifice. You are being lifted up!

Listening to Minority Whip Jeffrees speech before handing over the gavel gave us great insight as to what would have become of the House had Rep Mike Johnson not prevailed. He also gave clear warning as to what is coming from the Left of the Chamber, reciting, trying to cement their ongoing lies into the minds of those watching, seeming to give those very lies validity. We thank you, Lord, for Holy Spirit’s intervention at the end, when two calcitrant members heard and accepted your knowledge & wisdom, for that moment. Help us, our Representatives, our Senate to stay true to you now, no dawdling, quarreling over how to open any which gate; even Lord God, at the local and state levels. Thank you, and so we pray.
