Since he took office again, many have accused President Trump of seeking to defund education. However, Education Secretary Linda McMahon sought to correct the misconception at a recent White House Press Briefing.

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon addressed federal funding and “education micromanagement” at a White House Press Briefing on Thursday.
“We’re not ending federal support for education,” McMahon said. “We’re ending education micromanagement. The Department of Education does not educate a single student.” [Emphasis added]
At Thursday’s press briefing, McMahon further clarified the misconception currently held by many Democratic lawmakers — including Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz — that President Trump plans to defund education. McMahon reiterated that the Trump administration is focused on ending the bureaucratic, non-educational agency that has failed to improve national reading or math scores for decades.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also stepped in to defend the President, highlighting how the government shutdown proved America doesn’t need a Department of Education. During the shutdown, the Department reportedly furloughed 90% of its staff. Despite this, Leavitt notes that all schools remained open and all teachers received their paychecks in a timely manner.
Secretary McMahon targeted “micromanagement,” clarifying that her and President Trump’s goal is simply to return control of education to the states. And there’s a strong need for this, as years of loose federal control have allowed dangerous teachers unions to seize control of schools around the nation.

One of the top teachers unions in the country is facing criticism over an upcoming training session that will instruct members on how to go through a gender transition at work, including best practices for using gender pronouns and combating transphobia, while also being provided with literature labeling conservative opposition as “villains.”
In a document posted on its website, the National Education Association (NEA) announced to its more than 3 million educator members a slate of training programs, including a session named “Advancing LGBTQ+ Justice,” scheduled for Dec. 2-4, 2025. The union will also hold an “Advancing Racial Justice through Union Work” on Jan. 13-15, 2026.
According to Fox, the NEA is pushing sexuality, transgenderism, and racial and political division in our schools. And they’re doing it all with the technical approval of the government, as evidenced by the organization’s federal charter.
IFA has spent decades cautioning Americans about the NEA. In 1979, we sent a newsletter to intercessors warning that the establishment of the Department of Education “would give the NEA its own branch of the federal government from which it could dictate federal education policy and lobby for more tax support.” And sure enough, NEA officials were quick to meet with the first Secretary of Education, creating a bond that would poison education for years to come.
With their reform and eventual deconstruction of the federal government, Secretary McMahon and President Trump promise to stamp out this corruption, politicization, and micromanagement. Let’s pray for them as they continue to chip away at this monumental task!

Heavnly Father, we need to applaude (Linda McHlton) for her words at the Press Briefing last Thursday. In her speech she said we are not ending support at the schools, we are going to end the Micromanagement of the Department of Education. God I’ve seen and heard the cruel things that happen with the Queen Bees of the Education Department. God after all the Children have been through these past few years, they keep pushing for sexualiyy, transgenderism and racial divison and political out burst of words in the schools. My great question when I pray to God are they ALL sick? in their minds. This is what satan pushes the hardest is minds of the adults as well as the children (students), my other question is WHERE are the parents? Are they so filled with Fear they hide and say little of nothing. As I read the scriptures on Education, seeking wisdom from God, and trusting His plan. “PROVERBS 16-3 states ” Commit your work to the Lord , and your plans will be established, ” and Proverbs 22-29″ do you see a person or man skillful in his work? As I kept reading in Colossians 3-23 ” states “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as a Christian, working as for the Lord , not for human masters” Jesus they are planning a training session to advance the LGTBQ association advancing Justice. Father these kids are our future. America’s enemies know they can’t beat us on the battlefield, not with weaponry or technology but they can use the children via indoctrination. So Father do what needs to be done to purge our educational system of the rot that has infested it. I know the importance of teaching reading, writing, math, science, history and arts to children. Those are the things they especially need to learn!! All of the false ideologies and fake social justice and climate ideologies that are being promoted in school are not helping students. They are hurting them and producing fear and confusion.
My prayer: Jesus, thank you that you love the children and you want them to learn and prosper. I’m asking that you would use President Trump and Sec. McMahon to help make the schools a safe place for all of our children. We are not against the LGBQT + children, but we want them to know the true love of Jesus and their identity in Jesus Christ, so they can live life truly as God planned for them.
Protect the children and shelter them from all these false ideologies. Cause schools to foster a love of genuine truthful learning.

Just want to thank and praise the Lord!! I’m a retired teacher and I know from past experience that when children learned subjects such as reading, writing, “n” arithmetic they were prepared to function as knowledgeable adults. The other day on Fox News there were young adults who didn’t even know who the first president was. This lack of knowledge was appalling. When the schools 🏫 functioned under the authority of the states we ranked in the top 1-5 worldwide year after year. Now our young people can graduate from high school having learned little or nothing. Also, it would cost less to put school leadership under state authority and curriculum could be better adapted to student’s needs. I pray all citizens will benefit from this change!God bless the USA 🇺🇸 .
The amount of time children are spending on computers during school is a very real cause for concern. They need to be learning to think and discuss ideas with real people, as well as being presented with truthful information.

Education has been going downhill since the removal of God and prayer in schools in the 1960s. Music has also correspondingly gone downhill as well. I’ve noticed among Blacks, especially, that what some call culture is nothing more than hateful noise themselves exchanging racial slurs amongst each other. So sad. So disrespectful to the heroes and heroines who stood for respect.
Please, Father in Heaven, give great wisdom to President Trump and all our government leaders & help them do everything only with Your guidance for our children ‘s good to glorify You!
I find myself praying that educational funding would follow the child. Those that choose to educate thier children under Christian, Godly guidelines would excel. The proof would be in the pudding.
Lord Jesus, I lift up to You Linda McMahon. Please put a hedge of protection around her and her family. I pray that you protect, guide, and make a way for her to do her job as Education Secretary. I also pray for President Trump. Please give him the guidance and wisdom that are needed in the performance of his job. I also pray for the people who were furloughed from their jobs during the recent government shutdown. Most of all, the NEA appears to have a very progressive, anti-American slant in the causes that it supports. This is the key issue, and needs to be dealt with properly. Thank you Jesus.

Having been an educator for many years, I am upset to see how education has lost the sense to educate our children!
Instead our children have been indoctrinated into this very evil ideology and graduate not being able to read,
write, or do math. Thanks to President Trump and Mrs MCmahon for working to correct this injustice to our children.

I disagree with your analysis and would NEVER support the restriction or government control of what is taught in our schools. Information is knowledge and restriction of information is not education but in my opinion brainwashing of our youth to meet a the restricted views of others.
As an educator in public schools for over 30 years, I have seen first hand, the severe decline in student performance. The agenda has gone from educating our students by challenging them and helping learn from mistakes, to a radical agenda where we are not even allowed to correct mistakes, give failing grades, hold students accountable etc. High school students have told me that never learned that the letter “I” needs to be capitalized, punctuation is required in sentences and the spelling is atrocious. (even with spellcheck). This apathetic approach to teaching that has been forced upon us has resulted in lazy students who have no desire to challenge themselves and improve. The goal is to earn money without working hard. It is so sad that liberal agendas have surpassed actually educating our students with the crucial skills needed to survive in an independent world. No problem solving or critical thinking skills are evident in today’s students. I worry for our future. I could go on forever on the first hand account of the demise of our educational system,,…
