Throughout his mayoral campaign, Zohran Mamdani has embraced both socialism and radical Islam. Recently, Mamdani was spotted arm-in-arm with Siraj Wahhaj, a Muslim Imam with some troubling ties.

Democratic New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani appeared arm-in-arm Friday with a Muslim cleric linked to the architects of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and other terror plots.

Prosecutors had named Imam Siraj Wahhaj — who previously called for an Islamic state in America — among dozens “who may be alleged to be co-conspirators” in the trial of several men convicted of planning a terrorism campaign which included the 1993 World Trade Center attack. The attack killed six people and injured more than 1,000 others.

Despite Wahhaj’s history, the socialist Muslim mayoral candidate visited his Brooklyn-based mosque and described Wahhaj as a “pillar” of the community.

The Caller notes that three of Wahhaj’s children were sentenced to life in prison last year over organizing a jihadist training compound in New Mexico. Authorities say this compound “was used to plot attacks against the U.S. government.” Wahhaj reportedly shared the location of the training compound with police.

Notably, Wahhaj once served as a character witness for Omar Abdel-Rahman, a Muslim cleric who helped “rchestrate plans to murder hundreds of Americans, attack a U.S. military installation, and assassinate Egypt’s president at the time,” according to the Caller. Wahhaj characterized Abdel-Rahman as a “respected scholar,” testifying that he had met with him multiple times.

Wahhaj himself has embraced anti-America, anti-West rhetoric. He once said in a sermon, “In time, this so-called democracy will crumble, and there will be nothing. And the only thing that will remain will be Islam.” This may be why he has attracted radical followers, as the Caller notes that several people connected to the World Trade Center bombing attended or visited his mosque around the time of the attack.

It is important to note that Wahhaj also openly supports Mamdani. According to the Daily Caller, he endorsed the mayoral candidate in June and has donated $1,000 to a PAC that funneled its money into Mamdani’s campaign.

While a picture alone does not condemn Mamdani, his friendliness toward such a radical Imam is concerning. For Mamdani, who currently leads the New York City mayoral race with 52% support, his kind words and praise signify an admiration of the most radical, dangerous aspects of Islam.
