I Prayed have prayed
God, we pray for New York City as it prepared for Mamdani's mayoral administration. We especially ask You to protect all law enforcement officers in the city from all attacks.

Earlier this week, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani appointed a university professor to “advise his incoming administration on community safety matters.” There’s just one problem: this professor has a history of hating police, going so far as to call law enforcement officers the “enemy” of the working class.

From the Daily Caller News Foundation:

Mamdani announced Monday that Alex Vitale, a sociology professor at Brooklyn College, will advise his incoming administration on community safety matters. Vitale has a long history of disparaging police, calling them the “natural enemy” of the working class, and advocating for defunding law enforcement.

The appointment casts fresh doubt on the mayor-elect‘s attempt to distance himself from his own past remarks calling for the defunding of the New York Police Department (NYPD), which he labeled a “racist, anti-queer and a major threat to public safety.”

Vitale referred to individual officers as “class enemies” during a 2020 interview with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) when asked where police fit into the “class struggle.”

You can see Vitale’s 2020 comments in the video below.

In addition to the above comments, Vitale also wrote in a 2017 book that “the problem is policing itself.” He has also stated that the police, historically speaking, existed to “facilitate racial inequality,” and that the industry itself emerged “out of colonialism, slavery, and industrial capitalism.”

For months now, the Daily Caller notes that Mayor-elect Mamdani has sought to walk back previous comments about defunding the police, going so far as to apologize to officers in October. However, his appointment of a radical like Vitale shows that the Mayor-elect may not have truly let go of this position. It’s also worth noting that Vitale’s anti=police views are in line with the Democratic Socialists of America, a group that Mayor-elect Mamdani is a member of.

Let’s pray into Mayor-elect Mamdani’s appointment of Vitale, and let’s pray for the protection of police officer in New York City.

Heavenly Father,
We lift up New York City to You as it prepares for the incoming mayoral administration. Lord, we ask for Your divine protection over all law enforcement officers and first responders. Shield them from danger, guide their actions with wisdom, and grant them courage in the face of threats.

Father, we pray for peace and unity in the city. Let Your Spirit move in the hearts of leaders, officials, and citizens alike, that decisions may be guided by justice, compassion, and truth. Protect the innocent, restrain those who would do harm, and bring Your justice where it is needed.

Lord, we ask that You surround the city with Your angels, keeping streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces safe. Give law enforcement discernment and strength, and let them serve with integrity and honor. May Your presence be felt in every corner of the city, calming fear, promoting understanding, and inspiring courage.

We praise You, God, for Your sovereignty, Your protection, and Your unfailing love. Let Your light shine over New York City, over its leaders, and over its people, now and always.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
