The longtime liberal host spent his closing segment proving that the DSA has openly embraced communism, and the Democratic Party is letting it happen. “Donald Trump has told one trillion lies, but when he says the Democratic Socialists of America are actually communist, that’s not one of them,” Maher said in a clip he posted online.

Maher didn’t spin or exaggerate. He just quoted DSA leaders word for word. He showed how their platform copies Karl Marx directly. He pointed out that New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani once posted Marx’s exact words on social media. He highlighted a group called the Marxist Unity Group that now has real power inside the DSA and openly says its goal is a classless society—”in a word, communism.”

Then came the moment that left the room silent. Maher read a social media post from Cea Weaver, one of Mamdani’s top aides, telling voters to support communist candidates. The audience went quiet. “Yes. Good, I’m glad you’re shocked,” Maher said. “People got to realize this is going on.”

Maher spoke bluntly about what he sees as an ideological shift in his own party. He pointed to a centrist “Promise to America” pledge that affirmed capitalism over socialism. According to him, barely any lawmakers were willing to sign—Newsweek counted 10 House members and five candidates, led by Reps. Tom Suozzi and Adam Gray, but Maher’s broader point stood: the center of the party isn’t pushing back.

Maher has been hinting at this shift for months. He first brought it up in June when he talked with Vice President JD Vance, then went deeper in an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl, The Washington Times reported. Former Florida prosecutor Dave Aronberg told Fox News that the DSA’s growing influence could hurt Democrats in November’s elections.

Maher ended with a blunt comparison: he’d rather vote for former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin than any Democrat backed by the DSA. He called her a “bimbo,” but added that at least she could name something she loves about America—a dig at DSA candidates who, in his view, can’t.

For Christians, this isn’t just politics—it’s a warning sign. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” Communism’s history speaks for itself: over 100 million people killed in the 1900s, believers thrown in prison for their faith, families torn apart, and God-given freedoms crushed. When a major American political party lets Marxist ideas take root, it’s not just a disagreement about policy—it’s a crisis of right and wrong. The Bible calls believers to “expose deeds of darkness” (Ephesians 5:11) and stand up for the dignity and freedom that come from being made in God’s image. Ignoring communist ideas creeping into one of our two major parties isn’t being tolerant—it’s being careless.

The DSA isn’t hiding anymore—they’re saying it out loud, and even Bill Maher’s liberal crowd was shocked.
