Forty-four Senate Republicans and 184 House Republicans urged the Supreme Court to overturn the landmark abortion ruling Roe v. Wade when the justices review a Mississippi law during their next term.

“Congress and the States have shown that they are ready and able to address the issue in ways that reflect Americans’ varying viewpoints and are grounded in the science of fetal development and maternal health,” wrote the lawmakers in an amicus brief (pdf) to the court dated Wednesday.
At issue in the case is a 2018 Mississippi law that bars most abortions after the 15th week of pregnancy. The Mississippi law was challenged by the Jackson Women’s Health Organization and lower courts have…ruled against it…
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), and other Republican leadership members signed onto the brief. Several days before that, a trio of Republican senators—Josh Hawley (Mo.), Mike Lee (Utah), and Ted Cruz (Texas)—filed their own brief.
“The States,” the lawmakers’ Wednesday filing further argued, “have expressed the desire to protect life through a burgeoning number of laws enacted to further the States’ important interests in protecting women from dangerous late-term abortion, ending the destruction of human life…and protecting preborn infants from the horrific pain of such abortions…

“Before viability, the State’s interests…cannot override a pregnant person’s interests in their liberty and autonomy over their own body,” the clinic wrote in 2020.

Father God, we know that You can do anything to cause Your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. However, You often wait for us to pray, which allows us to see Your glory and give credit to You for answered prayer. You pull us in to Your will. We thank you for the great privilege of coming into Your presence to make our requests. Your word makes it clear that we do not have the right to take another’s life. Your word also makes it clear how much You love Your children. Jesus blessed the children while He was on earth and told his disciples not to keep them away. Our nation has murdered millions of babies in the name of “choice!” We come before you and repent of this horrible sin. Please hear our prayer and help us stop abortion!!!! May Roe v Wade be completely over-turned. May individuals, localities and states all unite against the evil that this law of the land represents and may we agree that abortion is sin!!!! May we unify in repentance and revoke this law. We cannot do it without You so we humbly request that YOU lead the way in this effort and that abortion ENDS completely!!! We pray for the many abortion victims who did not realize what they were doing. Help them forgive themselves and those that encouraged them too abort. Lord, please hear our prayer!
