Lawmakers Sponsor Resolution Commemorating 1782 Bible
Our lawmakers are seeking to officially recognize the importance of Scripture in our nation’s history. Praise God! IFA is one of the many organizations supporting this effort.
Republican Reps. Michael Cloud of Texas and Glenn Thompson of Pennsylvania are co-sponsoring a House of Representatives resolution to be introduced on Friday to recognize Sept. 12 as “The Day of the Bible” in the United States.

The resolution explains that on Sept. 12, 1782, Congress, under the Articles of Confederation, officially endorsed the “Aitken Bible,” or “The Bible of the Revolution,” as the first complete English-language Bible in America. That Bible was named after its printer, Robert Aitken, and this Sept. 12 will be the 243rd anniversary of Congress’ approval of it.
“The Bible is a source of hope and encouragement for Christians around the world,” Thompson told The Daily Signal.
“I am proud to introduce this resolution observing September 12th as ‘The Day of the Bible,’ honoring when the U.S. Congress in Philadelphia approved the first English Bible printed in America in 1782. Since then, scores of Americans have found strength, guidance, and meaningful discernment of God’s Word in its pages,” Thompson said.
The Revolutionary War was raging at the time of the resolution, and it was supported by the chaplains of Congress at the time. This week’s resolution comes at a time when Christians are facing increased persecution around the globe.
“More than any other source, our Founders cited Scripture as the source for the principles upon which our nation is established. Today, we’re seeing renewal in our culture and a return to the values that once anchored us,” Cloud told The Daily Signal.
“This week I’m introducing a resolution to recognize September 12th as the National Day of the Bible—243 years after Congress approved the 1,452-page Aitken Bible. Marking this day reminds us that the Bible is not only the bedrock of our liberty, but the living Word of God that continues to guide us as a people,” Cloud said.
The resolution encourages schools and civil society organizations to observe the day with programming that focuses on the Bible’s importance to the country’s past and present. It notes that “the Bible has long been a foundational text in shaping the moral, cultural, and spiritual heritage of the United States.”
It also says that the president shall “issue each year a proclamation designating September 12th as National Bible Day, on which the people of the United States may observe this day and participate in activities that highlight the Bible’s significance in our nation’s past and present.”
The resolution has drawn the support of the American Principles Project, WallBuilders, Christians Engaged, and the Family Policy Alliance, among other organizations.

While I whole-heartedly support the efforts being made to make sure this important document is recognized for the important role it played in our nation’s history, I am even more concerned that there are THOUSANDS OF DOCUMENTS SHOWING THE ACCURATE FOUNDATIONS OF THIS NATION THAT COULD BE DESTROYED. I’m afraid I see any & all documents in the National Archives, Smithsonian, or ang other nal himusuem, historical documents could be destroyed, so that updated, “woke”, communistic language could replace the original documents, virtually changing our nation’s actual history. Come on legislators in every city, state & at the federal level; all curators of museums, or other places where original historical documents are located — MUST TAKE ACTION NOW TO ASSURE THE ORIGINALS ARE KEPT SAFE & NOT BE REPLACED BY AI INSPIRED, GLOBALIST AGENDA.
Father, as we did at landing on the shore of America, we declare the original documents will be protected at all costs; & action taken TODAY to keep the original wording of founding documents be published every where, taught in every class. We decree there is a national uprising to assure our history is saved & reported to those coming behind us ACCURATELY, & with the same anointing that caused our founding father’s to pledge “their lives , their heritage & their sacred honor” for this nation will COVER EVERY CENTIMETER OF OUR NATION – north to south, east to west, sea to shining sea. Holy Spirit hover over our land & bring conviction upon those who have turned away from or refuse to believe in you. We loose evangelists that “speak the truth in love: so the world will clearly hear, & see the TRUE HISTORICAL BACKGFROUND OF OUR NATION. We call forth the Spirit of Truth over this nation – in every possible way, all 7 mouintains, & in our own hearts. In Jesus’ name!~
Could IFA or someone who knows with certainty, please post the HR Bill name and number for this resolution for those who call to give to our US Reps. Thanks!
Yes, amen! Just on IFA prayer call. We were urged to call our US Congressional Representiatve, that is our US Congressman and politely but firmly urge them or even insist in friendly manner they support this bill,
Please read attached article to understand this issue.
But whether your Rep is Democratic or Republican, I think we can express to them:
* This bill is non-partisan. That is, it does not represent any particular political party or philosophy.
* The bill is non-sectarian, that is, it doesn’t represent nor is contrary any particular religious viewpoint. The bill simply recognizes the important role the Bible has played as a source of inspiration and comfort to millions of Americans throughout our history. And the very important and critical role the Bible has definitely played in our nation’s history.
Would be wise to call your US Rep right away as it possibly could come up for a vote any time.
Has anyone heard when this might come up for a vote? Peace and God bless!
Lord God who birthed our nation in godly liberty based on your Word, the Bible, please move on our representatives in Congress to touch their hearts and minds, to hear from We the People who love You, and to convict them by grace for all, regardless of political party affiliation, to support and vote for this bill.
In the Mighty Name above all names, our Lord Jesus Christ our Messiah and sole, True King over America
What this commemorates is a printer Aitken. Was not the text the ‘authorised’ version commissioned by King James.
All printers should rejoice – a special day for them.
Glory to GOD. May This be so.
Awesome! Let’s draw move attention to the need for God and His Holy unadulterated Word!
Father I give you praise and all the credit for inspiring your obedient children to sponsor this bill. I pray for their protection, Isaiah 54:17. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
What a Wonderful resolution to bring for in this Great Country. Our God is so Amazing and Faithful to the USA and its time we get back to
recognizing all the Blessings He has bestowed on our Country. Praise God for all the Godly men and women He has placed in our Government to represent His people
I love this and wholly support this. We need the word of God back in our schools and the recognition this holy book deserves. It is a lifeline and may many become curious of what it actually says.
Is there a way to get a copy of the Aitken Bible? I went online to try but it seems to be very hard to find. Thank you.
May Your Holy Word be honored, as it should be – for it is living and active, not just providing foundational principles for our nation, but foundational principles for our lives today, individually and corporately. Thank You for this resolution!
This is wonderful! Father use this teach your word! In Jesus’ name
Thank you Lord. May this resolution be yet another spark that gets the U.S. back on the track of its Christian heritage.

Praise God for the relevance of His Word!
This is the way forward as the Bible has all the foundation for righteous governance.
This resolution is awesome! The more we can bring to attention and acknowledge the presence of God in our lives and our nation, the better. Politicians have been pushing God out of our cities, towns, schools for way too long. It’s time we go back to giving Him all the praise and glory! Thank you Michael Cloud and Glenn Thompson.
