I Prayed have prayed
In the name of Jesus, Father, we come before you asking forgiveness for ourselves or our ancestors who may have participated in the enslavement of Black people or any other atrocities done against Black America.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

February is Black History Month. Many Black Americans have mixed emotions during this month. One feeling is happiness for the great successes Black Americans have made over the years. The other emotion is sadness because of the movies and documentaries that reveal the horrors of American slavery, discrimination, unfair and unjust treatment for 400 years.

A little-known character in the Bible reveals God’s plan to include all races in His family, and He did this through the Father of our faith, Abraham. After Sarah’s death, Abraham married Keturah, whom many Jewish rabbis believe was an African/Black woman. Genesis 25:1-6 says Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah. Abraham and Keturah had six sons, seven grandsons, and three great-grandsons. They were part Jewish and part African (black). This is right in line with our Father Abraham being the Father of many nations both naturally and spiritually. Gen 17:4-6 says, “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you, and kings shall come from you.

Keturah offers us keys to healing our nation.

Keturah is key to reconciling the nations because she, as a Black woman, married Abraham, the Father of us all (Romans 4:17-18). Keturah brought us a gift to the Body of Christ and helped us bring peace and reconciliation to all cultures. We know this is God’s heart: Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. (2 Corinthians 13:11)

The message of Keturah is key to God’s bringing true identity to Black America and people of color around the globe. Black America has been in an identity crisis for over 400 years. Today is the season for healing. Ecclesiastes 3:3b says there is a time to heal!

Recognizing Keturah’s position as Abraham’s wife is key to bringing us to a place and time where we can forgive and allow God to heal us. God wants all His people healed, according to Deuteronomy 32:39 and 2 Kings 20:5.

We join together in prayer for Black America to be healed mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Let’s pray for Black America to be healed and delivered from all the pain they have suffered over the years.

Prayer

In the name of Jesus, Father, we come before you asking forgiveness for ourselves or our ancestors who may have participated in the enslavement of Black people or any other atrocities done against Black America. We now pray for Black America to heal according to your Word “You are the Lord God that heals us.” We pray that you would soften Black Americans’ hearts and bring them into a place of peace. Help them Lord, to come into a place of forgiveness and willingness to forgive others.  Lord, we speak your blessing of Peace (Jesus the Prince of peace) over them and ask you to make them whole in You, Lord! Amen!

I want to let all my black brothers and sisters know that you are truly loved.. I found a Valentines card for my mother the other day.. an inspirational one that stated, “God loves you, and so do I”. Amen to that message- for my mother and for everyone! Because of what Jesus did for me, and my Lord’s grace, I feel no prejudice or racism toward anyone of any race , nor do I feel any superiority. We are all God’s creation in need of His restoration and redemption.
There is a beautiful painting Akiane Kramerik was led to paint years ago, of Eve.. young Eve , after she ate that forbidden fruit in the Garden. She had tears running down her face with the expression of, “what did I just do?” The Lord spoke to artist, Akiane, and told her to add a little red to her hair, blue eyes, brown skin- a little something of all the races He had created, and He put it like this, “For she is the mother of all the races”. Amen to that!
In Jesus.. under the Holy Spirit.. we are all one Body in Him. We are all one Family! You are my sisters and my brothers even more so than my Italian/German/Russian family. There is no division in Christ when we are united to Him. Incidentally, alot of we white brothers and sisters may actually have African DNA in us more than we realize! I found out through my birth sister that we both have 10% African in our DNA after she had her DNA tested. God bless all of us, and my prayers continue for anyone of any race who is suffering racism, or persecution of any kind.
hugs, your sister in Christ, lisa

The idea of a generational curse is from the Old Testament & was for the Jews.

However, with Christ’s sacrifice, they were no longer under that covenant.

Romans 8, verses 1 & 2 state:
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”

Each person is responsible for their own actions & will answer to God.

I have no need for a prayer of forgiveness for myself. I had nothing to do with what the ancestors had done.
Peace be to Americans of all races…

Just read your post and as a black person I totally agree with you 100%, never, ever feel the need to feel responsible for what occured in the past. I also recently shared this thought with my church family (we are a diverse membership). Thank you for statiing this truth.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (Exodus 20:5) Speaking to the people about “IDOL WORSHIP” “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me;6.and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me,and keep my commandments” As a black person, I feel that “The color of one’s skin is idol worship” Putting more foucus on this than the TRUE GOSPEL.

Dear Lord,

I pray for your healing balm for our nation. Bless us all with repentant hearts, forgiving hearts, hearts and minds stayed on You. Heal us of our sins and brokenness regarding this issue of race. I praise You Father for Your hand in the design and founding of this nation which provided a means to right the wrongs of sinful men. Forgive those who focus on the pain of past generations, rather than the mighty healing You have wrought, Father. Heal hearts, minds, and spirits that we may follow You, be strengthened by You, be restored by You. Give Your Church and this nation eyes to see how your Gracious, Merciful, and Mighty Hand have been at work working good from what was meant for evil, Father. Amen.

I recommend reading/ watching Dutch Sheets’ Give Him 15 from today (2/14) as well. It provides an awesome testimony and opportunity to join our prayers with those from generations past. Please consider posting it in the IFA blog.

This awesome article of God’s intervention in the history of humanity through Abraham is very important: this needs to be shared with our children and children’s children: that GOD OF HEAVEN is our banner and buckler and shield and our hope to all races: thus bringing revival to the people of our nation: no matter the color of their skin pigmentation or ethnic groups: thru JESUS YESHUA sacrifice we are one blood ,one nation under GOD indivisible with liberty, justice and freedom: there is neither jew nor greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male or female: for ye are all one in Christ JESUS YESHUA. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Gal 3:28-29 GOD OF HEAVEN the FATHER has a rainbow offamily members: and home with many rooms full of things for all of us to enjoy and basking in HIS presence.

Yes I liked this post about Keturah’s keys to healing. This brings to my mind how even Moses was judged by his brother Aaron& sister Miriam when he married an Ethiopian woman.
May GOD heal our African brothers & sisters when they were looked down upon&were wrongly judged
Lord have mercy

We are equal in his sight the human race is God’s creation. We go on to the New Testament of the Bible, and we see in Acts 17:25-28 that God made all races and nations, all of us by one blood (verse 26)
This is also reflected in our Constitution, our Forefathers, many did try to reach those others present at it’s writing to agree to do away with Slavery. The history books that have not been methodically destroyed concerning this clearly recorded this fact.
Thanks to Venessa and her story being told here and to many others we will not lose sight of this part of our History.
We must learn from History or we will fail and these horrible practices will be repeated. As Christians we must strive daily to treat each other, and all our neighbors and those we meet daily as we would treat Christ. It is our duty, and the only way to effect the changes in our society.
My Grandparent’s both sides came here, as far as I’ve been able to research, after 1865. My Mother’s family was sharecroppers and poverty is a growing population set to be enslaved in this country. Our forefathers want to Class barriers, especially, in those that govern, yet we clearly have them. We must work to elect those that want to serve ALL the citizens of this country, just as Christ came for ALL those that would become his believer’s and followers. We just can’t let him down and continue to vote into power those that will continue the oppression’s that create classes and poverty. Amen and amen

I am caucasian, 2nd generation born in America, most of my ancestors from Poland, so i do not believe any of my ancestors oppressed African Americans, but I pray for forgiveness of the early Americans who somehow were Wealthy plantation owners yet bankrupt in human decency & love who decided that kidnapping human beings in Africa & shipping them on unsanitary ships in shackles to be slaves in America was acceptable. Father i pray that you forgive our nation for those atrocities, and restore to African Americans what was stolen from their forefathers. Father restore hope & dignity after many generations of hopelessness oppression. & poverty. Father do whatever necessary to bring true absolute spiritual, mental, emotional deliverance to all African Americans who are still in cycles of poverty & hopelessness or settling for less than all they could be, being deceived by lies that they cant or things havent changed or cant change. Thank you Father that you heard the cries of oppressed Israel after hundreds of years of Egyptian oppression. Your ear is open to the cries of the oppressed & you have put great & precious instructions & promises in your word & about the hope, help, & deliverance you offer all of us! Thank you!

I experienced a different type of oppression & suppression that affected me most of my life, born & raised in the early 60s -70s by an alcoholic father & mentally ill mother. definitely not a loving peaceful christian upbringing, I did not even have the social skills necessary to make friends when i got into gradeschool, the social “bonding” mechanism was just never there due to maternal abuse & neglect, & my dad who regularly drunk himself into a stuper to tune my mom out so he wouldnt be tempted to beat her due to outrage from her depression & manic mental illness with her malicious abusive venomous mouth & temper tantrums. he failed at times, police were at my house several times for domestic abuse. The social system was not what it is now. I cried to teachers to no avail. they called my mom who Suddenly acted mentally well & denied everything calling me an exaggerator & liar. To add insult to injury i was mocked & mercilessly teased & shunned at school, accused of being lesbian, spent lunch periods hiding in the bathroom wondering why i was not able join in with the fun i could hear the other kids having out in the play, it was safer to just withdraW to the bathroom which i did from grade school through most of high school. Then looking for love with men men just repeated the cycle of rejection so two divorces and 3 kids later i was still a mess! i know first hand about living under oppression, under fear, under unfair circumstances, always feeling stuck in cycles that seemed unfair, impossible to fully break free of. I was also stuck in the bondage of religion for 25+ years even after hearing the gospel & receiving Christ as savior, it took many years to overcome that spiritually oppressive religious cycle on top of the inherent dysfunction i had bern raised with. I am not saying this to diminish the suffering of the African Americans or to say that i can understand “THEIR” pain, their oppression” their many generations who suffered, but i share this to say i understand rejection & hopelessness in general, on the one-generation level i experienced, & it was frustrating! I was angry, i was hurt, i felt held back from succeeding at anything, the oppression followed me to school and socially, i didnt go to college, it was hard enough getting through grade school & high school, then it followed me as an adult to work. Trying to succeed without all the necessary social skills education and polish others had. growing up without hope without confidence, made me feel like an outsider & different, with extra challenges every where i went in everything i attempted.

when i finally got down to serious business with God through fasting with serious daily prayer & daily bible study & repentance of all known sin, in the fall of 2013, after many years of failure and depression,by the spring & summer of 2014 i finally met the true God of the bible who’s Faithfulness & Love began a healing cycle mentally, emotionally, & spiritually, from the lifelong cycle of oppression & suppression, and helped me build Social skills & confidence that were still lacking Even in my late 40s early 50s. God definitely will do everything He says he will do, it doesnt come from doing it OUR way or through mantras or religion, it comes from God through Jesus Christ, aka the WORD of God, & getting aligned with the word, saying no to sin & compromise, saying yes to Prayer and the word, forgiving our enemies in our heart as well as our outward behavior, and obeying the what Corinthians tells us love IS, by being humble, not keeping a record of wrongs, instead we are to think the best & hope the best (about God and people, And ourselves! that God will cause even our enemies to be at peace with us and will honor his promises, that who the son sets free is free indeed. there will still be enemies though but it wont be the color of our skin or the”furrows “ from our youth, but a spiritual battle for the faith of our heart, but Psalms says it best: many are the adversities of the righteous but God delivers them from ALL of them.

Father i pray for all who still struggle daily under years & even generations of oppression, especially African Americans. Father You heard the cries of oppressed Israel and sent a deliverer. Father i would never be able to understand growing up black growing up in an extreme poverty crime ridden neighborhood, but i can identify as a caucasian woman who spent many years in Extreme spiritual & emotional poverty & hopelessness, & i see how far you brought me out of it in just a short period of time of seeking you with all my heart soul mind & strength. I pray that you would get all churches right especially those in the inner cities to get of all compromise and sin, to truly seek your face through old fashioned Biblical tried & true fasting & repentance, to be Your true servants, beacons of light & hope & healing to the hurting & hopeless in the innercities and America in general & the nations. In Jesus name i pray and thank you!

Father God,
You loved your chosen people and yet you allowed them to be enslaved several times. But amazing testimony about who you were resulted from it and for all generations after to hear about. If there was no exodus from Egypt, the would have been no tale of the plagues or of walking across the Red Sea on dry land, only to have the waters crush the Egyptians chasing after your people.

If there was no slavery of Africans in America, I would not have had the chance to marry my husband and have three wonderful kids with him. I know there is much pain that resulted from what humans can do to other humans. The Bible contains story after story of that. You are not surprised by us. And there is nothing that is so dark and terrible that you can’t redeem it and use it for your glory!!

I pray now that we could unite together here in the U.S. around modern day slavery- human trafficking, which victimizes people of all races, genders, and sadly children in addition to adults. Please rain down your justice on this matter. By having a common enemy and working toward the elimination of that, perhaps we could move past the past. God, you are the great and mighty healer. You show us that forgiveness is for the one who was victimized. And you show us that we must forgive to be forgiven.

And God, I see that our nation can be hypocritical in that there are many racists with hateful agendas that are of many different colors, nationalities, etc. It’s either all right or all wrong, and yet, we are only calling out one kind. Please let us not accept hate, prejudice, etc. of any kind. Let us not tolerate any and at the same time offer mercy, love, and restoration, because much of it comes from hurt and fear and the desire for power.

You have defined sin and you call it wrong, against your will. Sin is unfortunately in in this nation. Forgive us. Prompt us to repent. Call us back to you, dear God. We need you desperately

In Jesus’s name, I pray. Amen.

My ancestors didn’t have slaves. Most Americans ancestors didn’t have slaves. Lord please help us get past this already. Can we focus on being Americans in the year 2021,the 1620s were 400 years ago. Slavery ended in 1865. God help us heal. We can’t heal if we keep tearing off the scab every day.

Father, I give You thanks for Your wonder! You have had a plan for mankind before the foundation of the world. Your works are marvelous. I thank You because, in slavery, we came to know Your Beautiful Son, Jesus. I thank You because You enabled slaves to be a great part of building America to the place she became, even when they were treated lower than animals and had no place. I thank You for the wisdom and knowledge You imparted to invent useful things: things that are used to this day. I thank You for the doctors, lawyers, nurses, builders, senators, congress people, preachers, chefs and many more that You have created. I thank You because what some men intended for evil, You meant for good. I thank You, Father, that in this 21st century, many of us are serving You with all of our hearts. I thank You, Most Holy and Sovereign, that You are not a respecter of persons, that mankind is the height of Your creation. You tell us in Your Word, in Revelation, that John looked and he saw people from every, tribe, kindred, color. I thank You for John 3:16. BLESS YOUR HOLY NAME! IN JESUS’ NAME. HALLELUJAH and AMEN!

I am sorry. This is not right…nor do I think the thought process is biblical. God does not show favoritism (Acts 10:34, Romans 2:11-12) and neither should we. Show me in the Bible where He has separated us as black vs white…show me in the Bible where God views people of any color (brown, white, yellow, black) and singles them out as purposefully and intentionally superior one over the other based on these qualities (or like the one singled out in this article).
Genesis 1:27
“So God created humankind in his own image; in the image of God he created him: male and female he created them”… Reading into anything God has done like has been done in the article deters from that truth immensely and such ideas are birthed in the hearts of man (Psalm 140:3, 141:14). Only man, or woman, would single out and use race as an issue to divide us or tell us we need to think differently than we do about this issue in this way and then tell us to do it because they think God says so in such a speculatory way.
We need to think biblically about any issue. I am not on board with this approach to interpreting Scripture or reinventing it to include that the covenantal patriarchs of Israel should be singled out like this. I do not want to debate the issue and I am not trying to be divisive, but there is something not right here. I am a woman of color. Since the woman who wrote this article appears to be a “godly” woman-is it better for us to view her as godly or black or a woman. Is she promoting blackness over godliness? I don’t know, but I do not agree with this approach to interpreting Scripture. Can’t wait for Jesus to return because quite honestly this won’t be an issue for us in God’s Kingdom. It shouldn’t be an issue now.
Regarding atrocities in general, they are commented against all kinds of human beings-every color, age, shape, and size throughout history. Turn on the news anymore and you can’t help but notice the depravity. Because it is so prevalent doesn’t make it acceptable, but it is the nature of sin. And the seed of every sin rests in the heart of EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US (Romans 3:10-12). I have not suffered any atrocity of slavery and for any struggles I have, I am able because of Christ, to declare victory, not victimhood. God can use anything for good and His glory, but I am concerned here…by Jesus’ stripes, we are ALL healed…don’t know how we as a nation decided that “all men are created equal” was determined to be such a curse. Praying for everyone for discernment. God bless you all.

This is such an excellent comment, M. We are further now than we’ve been in a long time from Martin Luther King’s dream of a color-blind society. This identity politics is so destructive and we must pray for an end to it and for God to remove the scales from people’s eyes so they can clearly see what it is doing. When you get right down to it, no black person in America right now was ever a slave unless they were caught by human traffickers. That is the kind of slavery we are facing now in America and it impacts people regardless of their color. We need to work on ending human trafficking and stop worrying about other kinds of slavery which haven’t occurred here in 150+ years.

I struggle to pray only for black American’s, their enslaved ancestors and those who carry forward animus. They weren’t only enslaved in the Americas. Many white were brought to the colonies as indentured servants or shipped to penal colonies such as Australia. Slavery in and of itself is a crime against humanity and it is an indignity that has fallen upon virtually people of all races and colors. I pray for all people regardless of color. I cannot get behind the idea of praying for one specific group of God’s children. I do pray that all people learn to get past their state of victimhood and recognize that we are all slaves to sin and only through Jesus and His Word, can we break through to true freedom no matter what our circumstance.

I do not believe that February is the only month to Celebrate a Race of People who built America with their Blood, Sweat, and Tears loss of families probably buried all over the United States some believe this was an accomplishment for the Black Race to offer the shortest Month on our calendar. We are Black, Brown, Light Brown, Dark Brown etc. everyday of the year our flight as a People can not be compared to any other cause that many have/are trying to compare their causes, we didn’t choose our color/race, but choosing a sexual partner is a choice. I believe the Black race came into the Bible long before Keturah thru Noah and his family, but by ABRAM – ABRAHAM taking Keturah as his wife this made her the Mother of many nations because he was Chosen by GOD to be the Father of many Nations. Thank you for allowing me to comment. A Sister Soldier For GOD!!!

It’s hard for me to understand how a true believer in Jesus could be racist. Yet I know it exists. Jesus has stern words that he taught his followers. You can’t even call someone “Racca” without being in danger of the fires of hell. Satan is still using his tricks on a fallen generation and he’s very good at it. We really need to be aware of the enemies tricks and guard our hearts. And we need to examine our hearts to see if we have been influenced by racist views and repent if they exist. God is love and by our love for each other the world will know Him. Conversely if we don’t love each other the world will not draw closer to God.

I had the privilege of meeting Venessa Battle several years ago in PA and admire her as a mighty woman of God and proponent of peace. Thank you, Dr. Battle, for educating us on the keys to reconciling the division in our nation as we purpose to become one Body in Christ, one nation under God.

Amen! We bless you, Vanessa, and our Black American brothers and sisters! I just read this story this morning. It’s characterized by abundant fruitfulness and prosperity!
Hallelujah!
Bring it on, Lord!
Restore the fortunes of your children, according to your pattern in scripture!
You alone can do it, Abba!
It is not the job of the government, although the government can fulfill your kingdom purposes. It is not the job of the school system, although you can use the schools to fulfill your kingdom purposes. It is the “job” /JOY of the Body of Christ to model, love, and release all of God’s children into their kingdom purposes!
Oh, that our love for Him would accelerate our desire to bring this into our current day reality!
Hallelujah!
🔥🔥🔥🔥

Powerful words thank you for sharing I believe freedom comes when we refuse to be a victim Satan has paralyzed so many with a victim mentality making them feel powerless to forgive and powerless to overcome their circumstances this was me I was stuck in the pain of a sexually abusive past then Father God opened my eyes and revealed the truth and I was set free from the past from this spiritual attack of a victim mentality!!!! I’m no longer a victim but an overcomer!!!! May many others be willing to allow Father God to open their eyes to their true identity as Overcomers and Victors understanding we are only passing through this world of pain and struggles to get to our final destination

Donna, your message of victory is one so many others have yet to experience… this type of abuse truly breaks my heart. This victory you have been given, is His Amen! “May many others be willing to allow Father God to open their eyes to their true identity as Overcomers and Victors understanding we are only passing through this world of pain and struggles to get to our final destination.” Amen Father, Amen Jesus, Amen Holy Spirit! While I am sure this was written with the very best intentions, the “identity crisis” is not with black people. We know who we are. the real identity problem is with others who do not know or acknowledge our identity and somehow think of us as less these children of God primarily due to the color of our skin. Overall many blacks (not everyone) are treated or told we are not equal to others in the “household of God” or even the human race. So for many and I speak from personal and shared experience, I see myself as a beloved child of God and try to carry myself as such. Often, not always, others have a problem treating and identifying me as worthy to be treated as a child off God. Not always due to their acknowledging there is a God, but that somehow due to my color, not my actions, I am less than them in some way that entitles them and even Christians to treat me differently. I was a black principal of several predominately white schools and saw this for myself first hand. Not by everyone there of course, but by many.

While I can always appreciate God’s Word as revealed to us by Him. I disagree that the “identity crisis” is with blacks. It is with many in this world who don’t see our identity as valuable, equal, or worthy as they see themselves due to the color of our skin. The real problem is a sin problem. Not an identity problem. And if there is a “black identity” crisis it was the direct result of many people not seeing us as God sees us.

My close relative was hospitalized with covid-19 last March, 2020 and put on a ventilator the same day. I was praying and fasting around the clock for his recovery because I wasn’t sure he was ready to meet JESUS! He did come out of it after 80 days on the ventilator, and became born again! In March, after he was diagnosed, I was looking on YouTube to find all I could about coronavirus and I found this video: Watch “The True Identity of the Negroes” on YouTube
https://youtu.be/Uw-zv8bEDGo. I am black and 70 and don’t know where my ancestors come from. We have never been upset or bitter about it because my parents were loving and kind to all people and taught us the same. This video resonated with me because of the truth of scripture, and it was presented so lovingly! Everytime I see it I cry because our GOD is so good! Saints, we have new Blood…the Blood of CHRIST and old things are passed away and behold all things are made new! We are sisters and brothers in CHRIST JESUS and I rejoice in GOD, my SAVIOUR! I forgive all who has ever sinned against me or my ancestors, including all of the black kings and leaders that sold their own race into slavery. No man owes me anything, and I owe no man anything but to tell him of CHRIST! Trust JESUS at all times saints, and watch GOD move to heal our land! Watch HIM heal every racial divide! FATHER GOD help all of YOUR people to love one another as YOU love us all! In JESUS MIGHTY Name! Amen!

S, your words are truth and light. It is my belief that all who believe as you are blessed, indeed. I pray the trust you have in Jesus is a shelter for you and your family and for all the generations to come. Below is my prayer for our family in Christ, which is being grown exponentially daily! Your sister in faith.

“God saved us by his grace when we believed. And we can’t take credit for this; it is His gift to us. Every family in heaven and on earth derives its name from our Father. It is in His glorious riches that we are strengthened with power through His Spirit in our inner beings, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith. We are being rooted and established in love, and have power, TOGETHER WITH ALL GODS HOLY PEOPLE, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that we are filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Our Father is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us! To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen

I did and would encourage others. It’s about 20 minutes in length. I have heard much of the information referenced in the past but never in one place.

Our dear Heavenly Father,
“You are the Lord God that heals us.”
We need healing for all Abraham’s children and believe you expose the ill will in our hearts toward others, for you promise to forgive and heal.
We need you to speak peace and heal our land.
Bless us with peace racially!
In Jesus’s name and through His blood. Amen
