I Prayed have prayed
Father, we lift the Supreme Court before You. We pray for boldness and wisdom for all nine justices so that they may protect our constitutional rights.

Recently, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, along with five other justices, declined to take up a case involving Maryland’s AR-15 ban. Despite this, the Justice says that the high court will decide on the legality of these controversial rifles soon.

The Hill has the story:

Only three justices — Clarence Thomas,Ā Samuel AlitoĀ andĀ Neil Gorsuch — voted to hear a challenge to Maryland’s ban on possessing AR-15s, barely falling short of the four votes required to take up a case.

But JusticeĀ Brett KavanaughĀ sent a strong signal that he will provide that crucial fourth vote in a future case once the issue percolates more in the lower courts.

ā€œIn my view, this Court should and presumably will address the AR–15 issue soon, in the next Term or two,ā€ Kavanaugh wrote in aĀ three-page written statement.

Kavanaugh, President Trump’s second appointee to the court, called Maryland’s law ā€œquestionable.ā€ But he stressed the issue is currently being considered by several appeals courts that are weighing other states’ bans.

Maryland is one of nine states that have banned AR-15s. In this state’s case, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently upheld its ban, ruling that AR-15s are not “constitutionally protected arms.”

Justice Thomas, arguably the most reliably conservative member of the Supreme Court, authored a dissent. He referred to the AR-15 as “the most popular rifle in America” and stressed that the Supreme Court needed to rule on its legality as soon as possible.

The Hill notes that the SCOTUS also recently turned away a case involving Rhode Island’s ban on high-capacity magazines. Just like in the Maryland case, Justices Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch indicated they would have heard the case.

Whether the SCOTUS will hear a challenge to AR-15 bans, much less whether they will actually rule in favor of Ar-15s, remains to be seen. For now, let’s pray that the highest court in the land would boldly protect our constitutional rights, including our right to bear arms under the Second Amendment!

Oh how this article breaks my heart – and how much more so the One who commanded we love and pray for our enemies?!
Jesus weeps over all who profess His name, yet premeditate the shooting of an offender whose life should be preserved for hope of redemption. Nowhere in the New Testament are Believers encouraged to use weapons against others. Jesus told His disciples to keep two swords – yet only to fulfill Isaiah’s prophecy of Him keeping company with transgressors. To clarify this point, Jesus warned them that those who live by the sword will die by it. In modern homes with handguns, so many needless accidental and intentional killings happen – mostly suicides. These tragedies occur due to living in fear of unlikely intruders, most of whom are unarmed lost souls. Where are the defenders at IFA for the correct Biblical perspective on this crucial issue?

Additionally, from a Constitutional perspective, the second amendment is badly misinterpreted in this modern era. It only called for “a well-regulated militia” – not handguns in every nightstand drawer for toddlers and teens to be tragically killed!

I understand the Biblical premise for basic 2nd Amendment protections.

Beyond that the idolatry of guns in this country has a horrible spirit behind it and needs to be repented of. No other practicing Christian in other countries share it! They just scratch their heads and lament our bloodshed, especially among children in schools.

Military grade weaponry and machine guns (which our founders did NOT have access to as they were not invented yet!) should not be as readily available as candy in a society as broken and mentally disturbed as ours.

Absolutely true Jen! However, there is no Biblical basis either for gun rights. Jesus was clear that those who live by the ‘sword’ will die by it. Fearfully trusting in highly lethal weapons to kill enemies is never a desire of true Christ followers.
