Judge Blocks National Guard Deployment in Portland
As his crime crackdown continues, President Trump recently sought to deploy the National Guard to Portland, Oregon. However, a federal judge blocked his efforts in a Sunday ruling.
Who is praying on the wall?
From Fox News:
U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut ruled the action was unlawful and unconstitutional, issuing an emergency temporary restraining order to halt the deployment of California’s National Guard. The order also bars the use of troops from any other state or Washington, D.C. in Oregon.
Immergut’s ruling says that the Trump administration’s action violates federal statute 10 U.S.C. §12406 and the Tenth Amendment.
California Governor Gavin Newsom was quick to celebrate the ruling in a post on X:
“BREAKING: We just won in court — again. A federal judge BLOCKED Donald Trump’s unlawful attempt to DEPLOY 300 OF OUR NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS TO PORTLAND. The court granted our request for a Temporary Restraining Order — HALTING ANY FEDERALIZATION, RELOCATION, OR DEPLOYMENT of ANY GUARD MEMBERS TO OREGON FROM ANY STATE. Trump’s abuse of power won’t stand,” the post stated.
Earlier this year, President Trump deployed the National Guard to Washington, D.C. After bringing results that even his critics couldn’t ignore, the President sought to take similar actions in other states. Democrat Governors, however, have taken issue with his approach and sought to block the National Guard deployment.
Portland isn’t the only city proving to be difficult for the President. Yesterday, Illinois sued the Trump administration to stop the President from deploying the National Guard to Chicago, a city that President Trump has been focused on ever since he began his crime crackdown in D.C.
According to Fox News, the Department of Justice will appeal the ruling. As the appeal plays out, let’s pray for the Trump administration as it cracks down on crime across the nation!
