Is “Religious Liberty” Code for Christian Supremacy?
Is “Religious Liberty” Code for Christian Supremacy?
By David Kubal, Pres. CEO of Intercessors for America
September 8 was a silent turning point in our nation’s history. On this day, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights published a report, entitled “Peaceful Coexistence: Reconciling Nondiscrimination Policies with Civil Liberties.” Read it for yourself at http://www.usccr.gov/pubs/Peaceful-Coexistence-09-07-16.PDF.
The author, Commission Chair Martin Castro, stated:
“The phrases ‘religious liberty’ and ‘religious freedom’ will stand for nothing except hypocrisy so long as they remain code words for discrimination, intolerance, racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, Christian supremacy, or any form of intolerance.”
The Commission delayed the report for three years before they released it this month. We can only conjecture about the reason they postponed it. My theory is that the Commission waited until the American culture would accept it. This report could spell trouble for Christians and conservatives who believe that having moral opinions is part of religious freedom. Our Founding Fathers sought protection from government-imposed beliefs. Now our government reflects the tyranny they left in Europe.
“Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for He guards the lives of His faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked” (Ps. 97:10).
Fellow Believer, we need to participate in this election, through voting and prayer, so we might elect officials who would protect our freedoms.
