I Prayed have prayed

As the election comes to a close, we have all heard the comments from Christians flowing freely on social media and other means of communications. To me, a troubling remark is to hear a believers say, “Well, whatever happens is God’s will, this election is in His hands.” Is that the posture of our heart that God desires?

Are we sure the election outcome will be God’s perfect will?

Let’s dissect that thought for a moment. If that statement is true, and God’s perfect will is always the outcome, does that mean it was His will for the legalization of same sex marriage and abortion with the killing of millions of innocent babies? Could this type of thinking lack spiritual insight, leaving the responsibility and action to God alone, removing any onus from ourselves to act on His behalf, and transferring all bad decision-making onto Him?

I believe that Jesus would not have prayed as part of the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven…” if everything that happens is already God’s will. We see in Scripture that prayer can change God’s mind as is the case with Abraham as he prayed for Sodom and Gomorrah. Prayer and repentance changed the consequences for Nineveh, much to Jonah’s disappointment. God requires that we not only pray for our circumstances, nation, and leaders, but also that we warn others, and do what we can to change our ungodly circumstances. Let us not be deceived into false thinking that we are absolved from any responsibility by declaring “God is in charge.”

It is important that we pray for God’s will to be done during this election season, and that we take action and vote.

Our nation is at a crossroads—please examine the differences between the policies and political positions of the Democratic and Republican platforms on major issues such abortion, education, healthcare, immigration, social issues, and Israel by clicking here. These two parties differ greatly in their philosophies and ideals. Which party platform lines up better with the Word of God?

How are you actively pursuing God’s will to be done on Earth this election season?
