I Prayed have prayed
Lord, help us to effectively INTERCEDE IT. Thank You that we are Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works that You have prepared in advance for us. Show us those Ephesians 2:10 works.
Reading Time: 6 minutes

Do you ever stop to consider how amazing it is that God Almighty CHOOSES to work through the prayers of his people?!  Intercession is definitely a privilege, and because of Jesus, we can approach the throne of grace with boldness and confidence (Hebrews 4:16).  Personally, I have interceded more for our country in the past 3 months than I have my entire life.  It’s a calling that can be quite consuming and heavy. Sometimes you just need a good laugh. Can you relate?  Recently this greater sense of responsibility and concern brought comic relief as it resulted in a hilarious slip-up in speech that turned out to be a trail of encouragement and exhortation.

Last week during my son’s high school soccer game, the other team kicked the ball uncomfortably close to our goal.  In an attempt to spur our team on, I intended to yell, “INTERCEPT IT”! Instead I blurted out, “INTERCEDE IT”!  At first what I misspoke made me laugh.  Then the words hit my head like the impact of a soaring soccer ball! “INTERCEDE IT”… “INTERCEPT IT”… I passed the words back and forth in my mind. That’s exactly what our prayers do! Through intercession we attempt to block the goals of the enemy!  Whatever his evil plan for the time is, we need to, “INTERCEDE IT”!

However, despite our heartfelt prayers, sometimes the Lord allows the enemy to “score” or even win a game. Such appears to be the case at this time in our country.  Unlike with sports though, what defines the end of a game is not so cut and dried; after all, we can’t see a cosmic scoreboard with a countdown. We’ve all experienced that the Great I Am’s clock is definitely not the one used by man.

Along those lines, His ways are not our ways, but He gave us the promise of Romans 8:28 so that even through loss, we will not lose heart. When a sports team faces defeat it’s a learning experience and a challenge to improve endurance, skill, and teamwork. Learning and growing may be two ways in which the Romans 8:28 promise is fulfilled. With this word of assurance though, it’s important to remember that the future outcome isn’t solely dependent on us because, GOD IS WORKING ALL THINGS TOGETHER FOR GOOD for those who are called according to His purpose… Also, even when the enemy scores a goal, or wins a game, let us keep in mind that Jesus is already victorious and we are on the triumphant team!  We’ve just yet to see the final championship showdown as recorded in Revelation.

Like athletes on a sports team, we should never give up, even when things look bleak. At least that’s what coaches call for, and what God’s Word commands.  Perseverance comes as we support and encourage each other. The Lord reminded me of this as I was cheering for our team which was down 1-0 in this action-packed divisional match. After screaming, “Go Saint Cloud!”  the words echoed in my head. SAINT CLOUD is the name of my son’s high school as well as our city.  In that moment it also served as a reminder of Hebrews 12:1-2: Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a CLOUD of WITNESSES, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.

In the previous chapter of Hebrews, we read a list of the heroes of our faith such as Enoch, Noah, and Abraham to name a few, who comprise this CLOUD OF SAINTS–a whole TEAM of God-fearing people pioneered our faith and left a legacy.  Additionally, believers can find inspiration from the Apostles and early church in Acts who persevered through much hardship as they laid down their lives, and we are grateful they did!  What about the dedication of other martyrs throughout history or persecuted Christians in the world today?  Of course, Jesus is our ultimate example as verse 2 reminds us of his authority, sacrifice, love, and victory!: looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

After the assurance that we are not alone in this race, we are exhorted to “lay aside every weight and sin.”  There are a few times in the past 3 months when I heard rumors about legal pathways promising that Donald Trump would in fact be our president again. Every time I received news promising all would be made right, I felt a huge sense of relief, or more accurately, the surge of energy you experience when 5 o’clock finally hits at the office on Friday! Many of us have imagined different scenarios where this all plays out.

Would this be a celebration of a victory for truth, justice, and freedom?  Of course! But subconsciously I was just as excited about the prospect of regaining a sense of security and the return to my comfortable life.  Sadly, I could instantly feel my mindset slipping back into one of complacency.  In America it’s easy to live in one continual “weekend” where we can spiritually kick back and relax, making pleasure our priority.  However, we are called to throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us. Why? So we can run the race with endurance! The spiritual battle did not begin with this election, and regardless of the outcome of the presidential race, the spiritual war would not end at inauguration, so we must not grow weary in doing good.

Speaking of ending, when the final buzzer sounded, the score for the soccer game remained 1-0.  But my sophomore son wasn’t discouraged because he knew they had played hard and that he would have more chances to play.  Intercessors, we have more opportunities to fight the good fight too!  We have yet to play our personal final game or take part in God’s ultimate championship match against Satan and his followers.

Soccer and spiritual parallels continued heading my way, even the next day, which happened to be that same son’s 16th birthday! As I was writing “Happy Birthday” on the bathroom mirror and attempting to draw a soccer ball, Philippians 3:13-14 came to mind:  Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.   What wise counsel, and more importantly, mature example Paul set for us!

At the bottom of my son’s birthday message I included the Philippians 4:13 address and decided that I should add a goal to complete the picture.  Thankfully, before I started drawing, I realized that I had a picture of a football goal in my head- I had the wrong goal in mind!  Sigh. A football goal would be much easier to draw. You might know where this is going….

Too often in life we lose sight of the goal Jesus set for us before leaving earth – the Great Commission that stems from a love for Christ and people. Instead, we set our eyes on the easier goal of what this world offers and values.  In the end these goals won’t count, so let us fix our eyes on Jesus and His kingdom and live in light of eternity.

If you had a big IFA TAKE ACTION button, what Ephesians 2:10 assignment would yours say?  Ask our Heavenly Father what position He would have you play – even TODAY!  Maybe you are called to run for political office, become active on your school board or city council, talk to one young person or many about where they can find their true identity, or help a woman through a crisis pregnancy.  Certainly we can all play OFFENSE through the praise and worship of Jesus and the minute by minute commitment to live for His glory!

During this time, while we fast and pray for our country, the leaders, and the laws, we find ourselves in the DEFENSE position.  As we play this “away game”, every time something from the enemy comes our way, let’s IMMEDIATELY PRAY to “INTERCEDE IT!”  Even as the Lord brought the “cloud of witnesses” verse to mind, He also told me to right then and there pray for my city for salvation and revival for many– that it would be filled with a PRESENT DAY CLOUD OF WITNESSES FOR HIM!  We have spent much time and prayer to “INTERCEDE IT,” in what feels like a fight for survival.  Now it’s time to THRIVE and take the ball down to GOD’S GOAL, with the heart cry of “REVIVAL”!

Picture after the soccer game with goals in back. I had to rush from work and forgot my hat on that very cold night so my husband gave me a scarf to cover my head. At some point I realized that it looked like I was wearing a prayer shawl complete with fringe at the bottom which you cannot see. What a great reminder of The Lord’s protection.

Thanks so much for checking in with me. I was listening to a podcast from 40 days this morning and they mentioned a fast from media or a non food item is a fast. I don’t see this in scripture A fast always involves food. In addition for me it has always meant giving up other things as well I need to stop listening and reading about the news This morning I had a meltdown praying about abortion I must sit with the anguish until I pray through I can go to the depths of intercession but I then need to rise up and soar like a bird above the clouds and fix my eyes on Jesus as HEB 1 reminds me. Thanks so much for partnering with me on this journey Love Sharron from Canada

Thanks for more info Sharron. If you hadn’t shared this opportunity https://www.40daysforlife.com/, and prompted others to join you, I probably would have missed out on this incredible privilege to be part of this stand for Life. I started the Daniel fast with you (and 1,000’s? of others) yesterday. For some reason I thought it was only a diet of veggies which wouldn’t work with my blood sugar. I found the diet on the internet though and see it does include healthy (non dairy) fat, fruit, legumes and nuts. Interestingly, my assignment for the IFA Bible Read-A-Thon shift this morning ended in the book of Daniel. It recorded that they only drank water and ate veggies – I guess that’s where I got the idea from ;-). If you have never participated, I encourage you to check out https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0c4ea9a623a6fc1-february, as The Lord has used my 1 hour shifts countless times to give me words to pray for our government, give me confirmation about what He has spoken to me, and even answer the questions he knows I have -like today! And amen to your prayers for miracles as we stand for the protection of God’s greatest miracles!

Praying for wisdom, insight, grace and understanding to begin a 40 day fast beginning February 17 as day 1 starts for the 40 days for life campaign. I did this last year and found myself deeply entrenched in the horrible heavy weight of this horrendous industry Now I believe I need to get to the very root of the problems with spiritual warfare. I am very grateful for Derek Prince’s teaching on this. I would love to partner with a sister with this same desire as we lift up our nation’s to God in prayer Love Sharron from Canada

Thanks for sharing Sharron – what a powerful Eph. 2:10 assignment you have! I agree that it is a spiritual battle because the heart of it is a disregard for the sanctity of life and a disregard for God’s plan for sex which are both Satan’s attempted attack/revenge. We definitely need to keep praying for laws to protect babies, but more than that, for a fear of God – FaithExcitemetAweReverance which would lead us to value His creation. This is heart change #1 needed. Change #2 would be trust and obedience which are the tangible actions for #1. I ask my teens: “Do you believ that God knows best? Do you believe that God loves you and wants what is best for your life?” With the answer of yes, the response for people is to trust Him and follow His plan and design for sex with the help of the Holy Spirit. If these 2 changes happened in our hearts and lives there wouldn’t be a “need” or demand for abortion. This problem is personal to me because I was born in 1973 and my mom was offered an abortion. Thankfully she chose life! Anyone born in 1973 or later is a SURVIVOR of the ROE -VS- Wade decison. I went to the website https://www.40daysforlife.com/ and I will be joining you and others with a refined sugar fast. Thank you so much for posting which will help me and others to unite with local believers!

Thanks so much for joining me on this 40 day Daniel Fast that begins tomorrow and signing up for the 40 days for life campaign. Last year I bought the 40 devotionals and the DVD Unplanned. I sewed the t shirt to the back of my winter coat and wear it daily in my neighborhood. The first time I went to the prayer site and just cried and cried. I went to the abortion website and learned what a patient would be told at the clinic. I read the reviews and learned so much about this industry. Before this campaign I knew nothing about abortion and felt I couldn’t relate to it. Now I feel a tremendous responsibility to be a voice for these precious miracles. I pray that God will empower us and fill us like never before to be His instruments in this ever deepening darkness of abortion Love and prayers Sharron

Wow, I admire your dedication Sharron. Unplanned was such a great movie. I was talking to someone about peaceful protests at the clinics (but also definitely a prayer vigil and outreach to pregnant women). They asked if they were effective. I referred to the movie and how the former president? of Planned Parenthood would probably say yes 😉 and of course we know that our prayers are never wasted and as we praise Jesus on site the enemy will flee. I didn’t realize it was a Daniel Fast. I will have to quickly check into that because I have blood sugar issues and the 3 day water fast I did this summer did not end well. Praying that The Lord gives us divine appointments to be his voice and hands and feet during our shifts and that he brings many others to stand together through Jesus!

Thank you for this article. It was encouraging and I needed it.
The last few months I pretty much understood that God wanted me to intercede for our nation. It was new territory for me though I have always been concerned deeply for this nation that we all love so deeply. I guess I would call “intercession” a learning experience as well as a privilege. But I realized how important it is and that collectively, we can move God to act. That history can be shaped. That many present situations can be altered, changed, etc. and God will get the glory no matter what. I even came to the deep understanding that God wants to hear from me and that 1 person’s prayer(s) can / will make a difference!!
Like many other intercessors, I feel like I’m in somewhat of a recovery mode after the incredible disappointment of the very questionable election but God is helping me to sort through that and drawing me back into more intercession. Understanding that “His ways are not my ways” has opened the door to realize that interceding for our leaders and this nation must continue because there is so much at stake and that God has assigned us not only that responsibility but that it is an “honor”.

The Lord called me to be a prayer warrior years ago but, like, Karen, I’ve never prayed more for our nation then, I have since Covid-19 appeared in our nation and world. Have some really close friends that pray with me for our nation. The Lord raised up the United States and HE hears our cries for repentance and revival. We as believers are grafted in but his heart is for Israel. May Jesus Christ bring the greatest revival the world has ever seen before the Rapture happens.

Please keep me posted about your prayer vigil Martha. I went alone last year and God gave me a person to join me my first time. I live in Canada near Toronto. I made flyers about our lack of abortion laws in Canada and the statistics and handed them out to people in my neighborhood. I believe everything counts that we do for God. I pray for an awesome outpouring of God’s power and anointing as you head out to pray for an end to abortion Love from Sharron in Canada

I thank God when He sends refreshment when we grow weary. You have been His instrument today Karen.
This morning I wrote Philippians 1:6 on an inmate’s lesson then read your article. My good work includes prison ministry and mentoring/encouraging women young in faith.
We need to encourage others but also reflect on verses for ourselves.
Your well written article was recommended on the IFA prayer call. It’s exciting to have intercessors being active in writing articles and speaking on the prayer calls.
Thank you Karen for encouraging us today and drawing us together to realize we’re all hearing similar messages from God.
How amazing is that!

Karen, Thank you for your encouragement not only through your article , but also in your personal response to those who shared their Ephesians 2:10 good work into which God has called them. You have created a community of encouragement. As Jesus directs us in Matthew 5:16, I glorify our Father in heaven as I see your good deeds as a light shining before others. I glorify God for all who are shining the light of Jesus wherever God has placed them, whether in their homes printing booklets, or in the homes of elderly, or working in county polling places, or on soccer fields, or any other place. God be praised and exalted!

I feel called to prayer, formost. The major goal before us is to see the Lord lifted up in our nation and the world. The enemy would have us tear down the nation by our very own hands.
Lord, There are none righteous. Even Job, whom you called blameless, was found in the end needing your forgiveness. He prayed for a redeemer (Job 7:21). That is why you sent your Son to save us.
We will not be discovered as righteous when we go before the court. The way is clear. You gave mercy and forgiveness. We must forgive as Job did. We must pray for our nation and extend a hand of forgiveness.
We shall show the world that the answer is love. We shall love our enemies. Or else we will be shown to tear down our nation with our very own hands. Demanding justice does not bring healing to our land. Going to court would be like throwing fuel on the fire. The true enemy loves it and uses it to stir up hatred. Let us stop playing the role of the accuser and instead be ambassadors for Christ.
The world is watching! Let us show the world the love of God. We must find a way to make peace. Lord, open our ears to negotiate and find ways to agree with those who oppose us. Then God will bless us and extend mercy.
The Apostles of Christ experienced great opposition as they formed the church. Stephen forgave the people as he was being stoned. We must extend the fruit of the Spirit in everything that we do. We must overcome evil with good. Lord, be with us to help us overcome evil with good, that your name would be lifted up and all men drawn to you. In Jesus name.

Thank you for sharing wisdom Laura. I believe that what you shared is one key to revival. Let’s love and pray for our “enemies” 2 Timothy 2:25 That God would grant them repentence, that they may come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil who has taken them captive to do his will. Also that The Lord would give them Revelation, Remembrance and Response to Revelation 22:12: where Jesus says his Return is soon (he will appear quickly) and his Reward/Recompense is with him and he will Repay each person for what he/she has done! Let’s get back to the 3 R’s!

To depend on Him alone!

Father, You put “depend” on my mind this morning as I prayed. I pray we would have total reliance on You…that we would place all our trust in You. Please show us Your great mercy and compassion. I pray You will raise us up during this time so Your Power would be displayed through us and we would proclaim Your Name and do Your Will. Nothing is too difficult for You, with You all things are possible, in You alone we depend. Please also make us heroes of faith adding us to Hebrews 11.

You are God, there is no other, with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit You rule and reign throughout eternity. In the NOW, I commit my life (and the lives of those who love You) in total dependence to YOU. I offer this humble prayer for Your Glory. Amen

This expresses so much of what I have and am experiencing. It is so great to know we are not praying alone. It is comforting to hear from others called into a place of intercession like they’ve never known before. The call is heavy, but I feel privileged to answer it and pray for God to call many, many others to join and for those many others to have ears to hear His call. I am also glad to know that others feel the need for the intensity of this to be interrupted at times with some levity/lightness. Sometimes I get concerned that the weight of this will cloud any sense of joy. I so appreciated this article–thanks for listening to God and sharing.

your reference to Ephesians 2:10 which says:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Got me thinking that all of God’s people should be focusing on this verse.. He has specific assignments for each of us. I personally have a passion for Christians to embrace their true identity in Christ. Please see my website http://www.whoIaminChrist.net Feel free to download and print the many verses And share the truth of who God says we are in His Word. Please let me know what you think. Thank you for this wonderful resource Kibby – I pray that The Lord continues to increasingly use your ministry in a powerful way! One of the possible assignments I happend to list at the bottom of the article is helping young people find their identity in Christ! How cool that The Lord would have our paths cross as I cashier part-time and work with many young people that I have a heart to reach. Of course people of all ages need this info but this younger generation has so many crazy messages they are being bombarded with. I am printing the sheets, but is the resource we purchase from you an actual booklet, and if so, what size? Also, I think you are right about it being a tool to present the gospel as well.

Intercede it! That is a wonderful way to say it. After all “if God is for us, who can be against us?”
I remember occasions during the Obama administration when The Holy Spirit led me to pray against some new evil policy they were trying to implement, and The Lord did stop them. In fact it almost seemed easier to pray against evil at that time, than it did to pray for good policies to succeed during the Trump administration. I think the spiritual opposition isn’t as strong when they are “in control”, they also fall into complacency.

My action button: Judicial Watch has sued the county I live in to clean up their voter records. Come spring, I want to help do that. I also want to help our new House Rep.,Lauren Boebert, any way I can. As FRC’s Tony Perkins says, pray and stand!

Susan – that’s wonderful that you can take part in preserving our freedom through helping to insure voter integrity. I pray The Lord continues to direct you and give you opportunities and open doors to support your new Rep in tangible ways in addition to powerful prayers.
