God is still teaching us lessons from the past. IFA intercessor Les Lanford and his family recently visited Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and then the IFA offices. He asked the Lord for insight at the battlefield and here is what he sensed. 

First, the history

Gettysburg marked the high-water mark for the Confederacy. Up to this point, General Robert E. Lee’s army had achieved many victories. Lee thought a decisive victory at Gettysburg, which is in the North, could perhaps bring the war to an end.

Before the Union General George Meade could get there, another Union leader held out against larger confederate forces. In the three days of fierce fighting, the North was able to secure and hold the higher ground against wave after wave of attacking southern forces.  Against Meade’s orders, one of the union generals moved the troops in his command away from the area they had been assigned to guard, leaving that vital position open.  Fortunately, another Union leader moved his men into that important spot and held that ground.

Despite great losses on both sides, the North was able to hold on to their strategic ground. By day three, Lee gave up the assault and began to withdraw his wounded forces. He led the Confederate forces for almost two more years before surrendering. In addition to holding the high ground, the Union had better weapons and larger forces.  They even had an entire group of men held in reserve. They could have put them into the battle, but they didn’t.

Intercessory insights for today

In recent decades, the Left has won many victories and has largely taken over many powerful sectors in our society. They have many forces and resources on their side.  Like General Lee’s army before Gettysburg, they may think they are almost invincible.

While it may seem that the Left has the high ground in our nation, in reality, we, the people of God, the Body of Christ, occupy the high (moral) ground.  Consider the angelic armies — we have many more forces and stronger (heavenly) weapons at our disposal as well as all the supplies we need.

Yes, the devil and his demonic hordes have come in like a flood. However, we must not flee but must stand firm and hold up God’s righteous standard as defined in His book, the Bible. We must not lose heart. We must not abandon our assigned places on the wall to protect our nation.

When my family and I stood on the Gettysburg battlefield, we declared that the Left has reached a high-water mark in our nation. If we will stand up and do the part the Lord has called us to, their demonic agenda will be pushed back and defeated (although this may take a while). In faith we prayed that the declarations of Lincoln’s Gettysburg address would be realized afresh:

…that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

May America be restored and may this nation fulfill God’s divine purposes and destiny.
