Many believers are shocked and dismayed to see the extreme immorality and godless legislation making inroads in this nation. We read headlines we never thought we would see in our lifetime. The celebration of death and perversion, and the far-left political campaign to force this demonic agenda on those who are God-fearing, can be truly frightening.

And, yet…we can take hope in God’s bigger purposes as we wait for His divine retribution to be fully released.

“The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 ESV)

We see a pattern throughout Scripture of God’s dealings with rebellious nations. He consistently sends His prophets to call people back to righteousness, even restraining Himself from the judgment they deserve (Isaiah 48:9). Why? Because of His compassion. He is not willing that ANY should perish. Thus, He holds back His just anger in order that repentance may yet come.

“The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by His messengers, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising His words and scoffing at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against His people, until there was no remedy.” (2 Chronicles 36:15-16 ESV)

“Until there was no remedy…”  At times, God restrains Himself and holds back His judgments in order that the hearts of men will be broken. He will allow sin to operate without interference so that man will come to the end of himself. Ultimately, it is not just our laws that need changing, it is our HEARTS. No change of laws or removal of ungodly rulers can fix a wicked heart. The only remedy is God Himself. THIS is what God is going after – and He’s willing to wait if it means more people will wake up to the consequences of their choice.

The dividing line between good and evil, right and wrong, is being defined as never before. For those who are unsure and unable to perceive the underlying demonic agenda at work in the political chaos, God wants to make things crystal clear. His compassion restrains His judgment for things to be made BLACK AND WHITE.

“How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, then follow him.” (1 Kings 18:21 ESV)

The enemy is overplaying His hand, and God is letting him. In His sovereign purposes, God is revealing the emperor’s clothes that many are wearing so that those on the fence will see them for what they are – blind fools. As godless politicians parade their pride and arrogance before the world, the true intentions of their evil hearts are being laid bare. For those with eyes to see, the choice will be made easy and the enemy will be the one to bare the shame.

The Righteous Judge has already decided their fate. Our role is to hold fast to our confession of faith and pray for those yet undecided to see clearly and choose wisely.

“Only hold fast what you have until I come. The one who conquers and who keeps My works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations.” (Revelation 2:25-26 ESV)
