Early on Saturday, the United States military carried out a strike on Venezuela, capturing both President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. We are only 6 days into January and we have already seen perhaps the biggest, most important news story of the year.

The United States carried out a “large-scale” military strike on Venezuela early Saturday morning, capturing President Nicolás Maduro.
President Donald Trump confirmed that the dictator and his wife have been flown out of the country.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country,” Trump said. “This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The response to this move came quickly, with people around the world expressing joy, while others condemned the attack. Venezuelans who have suffered under Maduro’s regime have been celebrating. Many Democrats, on the other hand, have accused President Trump of violating international law. According to Breitbart, the Democratic National Committee recently sent out a fundraising email calling Maduro’s capture “unconstitutional” and “an unauthorized attack against Venezuela.”
Maduro’s capture as also rocked other nations in the area. President Trump predicted that Cuba, a longtime adversary of the U.S., was “ready to fall” without security and oil from Maduro’s regime. The President also threatened Colombia, calling its president, Gustavo Petro, “a sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States.” He stated that Petro “is not going to be doing [making and selling cocaine] for a very long time.”
Following Maduro’s removal from office, his former second -in-command Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s new president. And while she initially demanded the return of her predecessor, she later took a more agreeable tone, offering “an invitation to the U.S. government to work together on a cooperation agenda.” Time will tell if this change of heart was genuine.
Meanwhile, Maduro appeared in court yesterday, pleading not guilty to the charges brought against him. He maintained that he is “innocent” and “a decent man.” His wife also pleaded not guilty.
We’ve likely only seen the beginning of the fallout from the attack. One thing has been made clear though: America is not to be messed with. As Maduro makes his way though our justice system and as other nations react to his capture, let’s pray!

I think that President Trump sent a strong message to the dictators in this hemisphere in capturing Maduro. President Trump tried numerous times to get Maduro to the bargaining table. I only hope that it all works out in our favor, and that President Trump seeks God’s wisdom before he makes any further moves internationally. I don’t get WHY Maduro was taken to a liberal bastion like New York City. They just elected Mamdani for mayor! I am happy for the Venezualan people.
