As the Supreme Court begins its term, many are closely watching the cases concerning President Trump’s executive actions. Some have even said this “Trump term” will be “so momentous in deciding the future of American democracy.”

From the Daily Caller:

Cases related to President Donald Trump have topped the docket for the past several terms, but the lineup for 2025-2026 — which includes questions about the president’s power to remove executive officials and ability to issue tariffs using emergency authority — has teed up multiple potential landmark rulings defining executive power.

“No president in recent memory, perhaps ever, has purposefully tested the constitutional limits of separation of powers and executive authority more than Donald Trump,” John Malcolm, vice president of the Heritage Foundation’s Institute for Constitutional Government, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

While Trump signed a total of 220 executive orders during his entire first term, he’s already signed 210 orders since January. Many have faced legal challenges.

Before the Supreme Court this term is President Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship, the President’s authority to fire the heads of independent agencies, and his authority to issue tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). President Trump has suggested he may attend oral arguments for the IEEPA case, stating that a ruling against his administration “would be a disaster for America.”

Thus far, many of the President’s executive actions have been stopped by lower courts, although the Supreme Court has backed him with a smattering or emergency orders. However, this term will see the high court issuing measured, definitive rulings, potentially reshaping executive power in our nation permanently.

Experts are taking notice of the significance of this term. UC Berkeley School of Law Dean Erwin Chermerinsky wrote on SCOTUSblog that, in 45 years following the high court, he had never “had a sense at the beginning of a term that it will be so momentous in deciding the future of American democracy.” He further wrote that “Trump is seeking to greatly expand executive power and has taken many actions that are being challenged as illegal or unconstitutional,” adding that “there never before has been anything like this.”

As the Supreme Court hears cases with the potential to permanently alter the separation of powers in our nation, let’s ask God to guide each and every justice. Let’s pray for His will to be done!

One correction in your article…. it ought to read: “As the Supreme Court hears cases with the potential permanently TO RESTORE the separation of powers…. ”
We have been living for a very long time with a government compromised by a series of misconceived decisions from previous courts over a period of 60 or 70 years!
