As New York City prepares for Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani to take power in January, the CEO of a pregnancy care center organization is warning that the Muslim socialist’s rule will be disastrous for pro-life pregnancy centers.

“We have some significant concerns with respect to Mayor-elect Mamdani‘s ideas around protecting New Yorkers from pro-life pregnancy centers,” said Rev. Jim Harden, CEO of CompassCare, an anti-abortion medical network based in Buffalo, New York, in an interview Friday with Fox News Digital.

Harden, who leads pregnancy care centers in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island and elsewhere in New York, recently penned an op-ed titled, “Zohran Mamdani Vows to Shut Down Pro-Life Pregnancy Centers.”

In it, Harden wrote that during Mamdani’s campaign, he planned to “protect” New Yorkers from pro-life pregnancy centers, accusing them of spreading “false or deceptive information,” according to campaign materials.

Harden noted that Mayor-elect Mamdani has also proposed using Local Law 17 against pregnancy centers. This law, described by Harden as a “consumer protection rule,” would force centers in the city “to disclose whether they have licensed medical professionals,” according to a “Zohran for New York City” document.

According to Fox, however, this doesn’t tell the full story. Harden calls the law “a violation of First Amendment rights,” claiming it could force pregnancy centers to specify that they do not provide abortions. Centers could even be forced to refer patients to abortionists.

CompassCare, which has three pregnancy centers in New York City, is no stranger to pro-abortion attacks. Some of the organizations’ centers in the state were attacked in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Now, however, Mayor-elect Mamdani represents a new, more sophisticated threat that will likely be much harder to fight.
