For years, higher education in America has been seen as a far-left bastion, home to the nation’s most dangerous and disgusting ideas and ideologies. According to Fox News, however, 5 moments from this past year show that higher education is shifting.

From Fox News:

It would be easy to end this year discouraged. From campus unrest to ideological extremes at some of the most prestigious universities in America, 2025 gave us more than enough to lament. But as a university president, and as we approach this season of Christmas, a time marked by reflection, renewal and hope, I believe the full story of higher education this year was not just about collapse. It was also about conviction.

This was a year when students spoke up. Parents got involved. Christian leaders stayed the course. And across the country, signs of renewal began to take shape. Not everywhere. Not perfectly. But undeniably.

As I reflect on this year in higher education, I believe these five moments signal that a meaningful shift is already underway.

To begin with, several students and states stood up this year to protect women’s sports. As Dr. Kent Ingle, author of the Fox article, writes, “Biology is not bigotry. Truth matters. And this was the year more students started saying so out loud.”

Additionally, Dr. Ingle points out that Christian and conservative voices, which have historically been silenced on campuses, pushed back on restrictions and won. Dr. Ingle wrote, This year, many [Christians and Conservatives] chose to speak with boldness and grace. And the courts began backing them up.”

Third, Dr. Ingle claims the fall of higher education credibility has opened doors. “As families watched these schools stumble,” he wrote, “many began looking elsewhere for wisdom, integrity and formation.” Perhaps these families will look to God instead.

Fourth, parents are reclaiming their voice in education. From attending school board meetings to asking pointed questions about colleges, parents were more involved this year than perhaps ever before.

Finally, Fox reports that public trust in higher education fell to a historic low this year. According to Dr. Ingle, however, that’s not a bad thing. The lack of trust shows that people “are hungry for models that prioritize truth, character and community over bureaucracy and activism.

The Lord changed a great deal about higher education in 2025, and he’s set to change even more in 2026. Let’s pray for His will to be done in schools across the country!
