I Prayed have prayed
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Pray for the courage of our leaders to overcome national fear and pray for personal courage to overcome fear in your own life and in the lives of your loved ones.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (Jo 1:9)

“At the heart of the Cold War, the ever-present nuclear threat had a profound effect on the American psyche. Children hiding under desks during air raid drills during the 1960s and 1970s had longer-term implications in terms of mental and physical health as studies in the 1980s revealed.

A big problem at the time was the widespread knowledge of the perceived risk, which spread like a contagion. According to a Canadian study published in 1986, those most affected were children, teenagers, caretakers and the unemployed. While teens tended to be cynical, children responded with anxiety.

Flash forward to 2017, and as North Korea and the United States exchanged mutual threats over the past few weeks, the question is: What effect does this bluster have on the psyche of the average U.S. citizen? With 24-hour cable news and social media now broadcasting this saber-rattling into a huge megaphone, with every tweet from President Trump and every moment of nuclear chest-thumping by Kim Jong-un being analyzed under a media microscope, are we now panicking and spreading even more fear than at the heart of the Cold War?

The essential problem is that we do not assess risk as calmly as we think we do, we are driven by fear and fear memories that are hard-wired deep into our brain. Animals rely on this primitive mechanism for their survival from predators. An almond-shaped organ deep in the brain known as the amygdala connects with the prefrontal cortex and initiates a stress hormone-driven emotional response that overrides reason. Inherited ‘fight or flight’ readies us for danger even if the danger is perceived rather than real. These fear reactions are stored and then reactivated when something happens to remind us. We panic and overpersonalize the risk.

Preparation for a disaster may also backfire by triggering fear. If we stockpile supplies such as potassium iodide pills, for example, to protect thyroid glands in the event of a sudden burst of radiation, we are actually signaling our bodies and our minds that such an attack may be in the offing. When Guam released a set of guidelines instructing citizens how to respond in the case of a nuclear attack, they risked increasing fears by making the danger seem even more imminent than it actually was.

Keep in mind that an individual’s unique reaction to perceived danger not only diminishes well-being; it can also spread through an entire society. We became less secure mentally, emotionally and physically during the Cold War. Nuclear fears — along with the cognitive, emotional and behavioral manifestations of them — became permanently embedded in the American psyche. Nuclear fear memories are being reawakened now. We risk entering an unhealthy cycle of worry where we don’t sleep well, we are more anxious, and our heart rate and blood pressure go up. . . .

A more direct approach is to find someone to relate to who can project courage instead of fear, as research has shown that strong positive emotions such as courage can suppress the amygdala from initiating a fear response. . . .

President Trump acted in this great tradition of strength when he stood up to Kim Jong-un and threatened him back, warning of ‘fire and fury like the world has never seen,’ and that U.S. forces were ‘locked and loaded.’ The American public could relate to this courage shown by the president rather than fear and worry generated by the nuclear danger.

Relating to our military and moral strength and courage helps us to remain calm in the face of a petulant dictator. . . . (Excerpted from The Washington Times, commentary by Marc Siegel and Gina Loudon, both physicians.)

UNITY PRAY FOR TRUMP RALLY
Author Tammy Varholdt 2/15/17

Lord we lift our hands and hearts to you in repentance, prayer and praise as we celebrate the victory of our 45th POTUS Donald J Trump! We humbly ask your forgiveness of our sins as you alone are our final judge. Let us learn from history and choose to UNITE. Lord you ended the debate about life when your son so willingly died on the cross so we may be saved from our sinful ways. ALL LIVES MATTER regardless of race, religion, gender or political views.

UNITY and PEACE are choices each of us make and can be summed up with your most important commandment “love thy neighbor”. Today we bind up and cast out all forms of evil and attacks from individuals or groups who seek to fuel hate, discord or disobedience. Today we say NO MORE; instead we choose to do unto others as we want done unto us. We the people must UNITE as a house divided cannot stand. Today let our actions reflect UNITY as AMERICANS.

Let us examine our hearts, words and actions to reflect a desire for PEACE on earth as it is in heaven. We can agree to disagree on personal views and still remain united as AMERICANS. We must hold our elected officials accountable to work for all of us and demand they become fiscally responsible with our tax dollars. As AMERICANS let us put an end to selfishness, greed and corruption that runs amuck throughout all levels of governing agencies, organizations, social media outlets along with those who seek to fuel civil unrest and destruction throughout your great nation. Today we declare a reset; no more will we take the bait of hate.

If our words or actions do not align to have a positive impact, then let our tongues remain silent. Lord help us take responsibility for peace which begins in our homes, spreads throughout families, churches, schools, communities and society. Today we say ENOUGH; as Americans we are stronger UNITED.

Lord guide us to come together to change our path to ensure a brighter and safer nation for future generations. Lord we thank you for protection over our elected officials, military, police, first responders and to all who desire a peaceful world, let us never forget the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice of life for our freedoms. UNITED we can ALL make America great again. Bless each of us with wisdom and strength to unite so we may prosper as one nation under God with liberty and justice for all. AMEN

We must pray incessantly for our country, our president, his family and cabinet keeping in mind that He will always answer when we pray according to His will.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of Him” (1 John 5:14,15, NIV)?

Lord God Almighty, through Jesus Christ, our Refuge, our Savior and Lord, we bring to you all our fears and worries. You command us to be still and know that You are God. We rest upon Your promise as You did of Joshua. You are victorious over the plans of the evil one. You harness the enemy and thwart their evil intentions. Confuse the enemy. Put them to shame and show Your glory and might that all may know that there is no god except the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Before you, every knee shall bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth. To You be glory and honor and might forever and ever through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit one God now and forevermore. Amen.

For my determined purpose is that I may know Him, that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly. And that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection, the power it exerts over believers; and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed in spirit into His likeness even, to His death. If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage ofgiving success. May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion: May all who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and disgrace. May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness ; may they always say, “The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant. ” Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Cast thy burdens upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. But I keep control of my body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when I have preached too others, I myself should be a castaway. Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust. Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto thee. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. In Jesus name!

Our God is a Mighty Fortress. We will not fear what man says he will do to us. We live in a peace that passes the human mind.

The promise included within Ps. 91 is real for us today if we appropriate it by faith.

God’s Word, the Bible, tells us consistently to “fear not”, for we truly are like sheep, but His sheep. He leads, He anoints our heads with the oil of gladness, He surrounds us as a great shield, He is our fortress. The battle is God’s and we praise Him now for leadership in the White House that is responding as one who is “strong and courageous”. God bless President Trump, Mike Pence and all those who seek God’s wisdom in their decisions. The enemy of our souls is defeated and his only weapons are lies and fear. We will not lean to our own understanding, but trust God in all things, at all times. Sovereign God of the whole earth, be glorified today in all the earth.

Father Almighty, Praise to you above all. May the faith and trust of your people emanate courage bringing your peace in heart that overcomes the threats and chaos. You tell us not to be troubled as we know our Lord is preparing our home. I pray for your words to enter the minds of America’s government leaders to bring courage strengthening the hearts of the people. May our heart rest in your will; greater than anything in the world.
