Google search interest for “homeschooling” has rocketed to its highest level in half a decade, a sign of potentially renewed interest in alternative education as more U.S. school districts decide not to fully reopen in the fall amid the coronavirus.

A growing number of school officials across the country have announced plans to indefinitely delay re-opening their school districts next month, amid a spike in confirmed cases and related fears their schools could become hotspots for more outbreaks.

On Thursday, the U.S. reached a total of more than 4 million cases, with about a quarter of them reportedly coming in roughly the past two weeks. . . .

Google Trends – the tech giant’s tool for tracking the usage of search terms over time – shows that user searches for “homeschool” have peaked at their highest level in five years, hitting a value of “100,” or “peak popularity,” earlier this month.

Data show that interest in the term over the past five years has followed a mostly consistent pattern, remaining largely flat from November through July before briefly spiking at relatively low levels in August, at about the time school starts for most American students.

A previous five-year interest high was set in mid-March of this year, at the time most school districts were shutting down as the COVID-19 pandemic began to escalate in this country.

Yet the most recent spike dwarfs even that one, with over 40% more interest in the subject now than there was four months ago. . . .

The refusal of many teachers and educational authorities to return to in-person learning in the fall has become a political debate in and of itself. President Trump this week said that if schools do not re-open in the fall, funding for those institutions “should go to parents to send their child to the public, private, charter, religious or homeschool of their choice.”

The U.S. on average spends around $14,000 annually per schoolchild.

My daughter just graduated college with a degree in early childhood education and is completing her certication to teach in New York..She is searching for her first job.
please pray that God opens doors to use her to teach for His glory, whether it be through a “pandemic pod” or as a light in the public schools. Thank you

I’m extremely happy that parents are taking their right back and educate their children, sadly our public schools have not been doing their job, great it’s the God we serve, bcs what evil planned for destruction, God has turned for His Glory, we know parents are the first teachers of their children and they will do their job better, than the crazy curriculum public schools have!

Heavenly Father, in Jesus’ Name, thank you for confusing powers of darkness, and those captive to those powers by providing a way for parents around Public School education. Sad, school curriculum in many places is attempting to deceive children into thinking sexual deviation of different sorts is okay.

I rebuke the evil powers that spearhead such evil in our public education system. I praise You for parents and others standing “on the wall” to protect our children. I thank You for keeping options opened to parents whereby they can monitor what their children are being taught.

Thank you for making those who support the evils in Public education realize that their power can be broken. They do not have the “last word”. Your power is so far beyond them there is no measure adqeuate. Lord, “Let freedom ring”. May truth be broadcast loudly across America in our schools. Protect our children. Thank You for gathering them under Your mighty wings. Bless all Educators planting a desire in their hearts to serve Your Kingdom in their calling. Thank You for the truth and awareness awakened regarding out Public Education system through the Pandemic. You always work good, Lord. Thousand thanks. Amen

I am happy to see this. It’s a huge step in the right direction. Public schools today teach students Satanic LGBTQ lifestyles, rather than what they truly need to learn in order to have a successful future. We’re seeing evidence of this today! Little kids nowadays identify as gay, lesbian, or transgender! Some are even Drag Queens! It’s truly sickening and sad. A good Christian homeschool education is what they need. If we conservative Christians don’t stand up to the Left and make our voices heard on this matter, the future of society will be a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah! How scary is that? Homeschooling is a great alternative to public schools. If I were a Mom, this is what I would choose for my kids.

Here in Oregon the state mandated that public schools begin teaching the LGBTQ lifestyle beginning in Kindergarten!! Check each states educational mandates, this may help.

My children have been in Cyber school since kindergarten . THey are in the 10th grade this year. It is not with the local government run schools. It is the best decision we have ever made. The cyber charters.. run themselves with state standards.. but they are not attached to the school districts. For so many years the governors and states have tried to get rid of the cyber charters.. because they know it works and they operate without their censor and control. Our terrible Governor of PA Tom WOlf has spent his whole career in PA trying to defund the cyber charters. I will never pt my children in a brick and mortar govt run school.. and though cyber is not quite home school.. we have more control. more choices. and we know what is going on. We have input and it is monitored.. I am comfortable with what my children are offered. THe new online attached to the government run schools.. are NOT the same as a Cyber CHarter that is set up to do exactly that.. They should NEVER be allowed to stop this choice for citizens of the country . Their agenda.. has them wanting to get to our children.. and it is not going to happen in our home.

…And please continue to pray for us who have homeschooled for years as we help guide those who are newly interested. Homeschooling is a commitment we’ve made that usually comes with one less paycheck to help support our families, but many of us do it as a sacrifice unto the Lord believing that teaching a biblical worldview to our children in every academic subject is important. We are believing that the current Covid crisis is an ordained moment in time to turn the hearts of parents back to their children to renew a worship of God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind, and all our strength.

I believe that, too. Thank you for being a resource to the new generation of homeschoolers. I was blessed by a woman like you who walked me through all the options in the process and it helped me be less overwhelmed. I was a public school teacher one year and the next year I had my son and 3 of his friends at my dining room table in what is now referred to as a “micro school” or “pandemic pod.” It was the best year of his life–he still says this 3 years later. I am praying about how to use my teaching skills to support homeschooling families this upcoming school year. Please pray for me.

      Dana,

Thank you for using the gifts God has given you to edify others and glorify Him in the process. I come from four generations of teachers myself, and you will be in my prayers. Bless you!

Lord, please give every Christian parent who is seeking you on behalf of their children’s future education great wisdom, peace and direction. What the devil is meaning for evil and confusion, we believe you will turn it for good for those who love you as you promise in Your Word. Those who choose to homeschool have taken on a special selfless opportunity to pour Your Love and Truth of Your Word into their children’s lives as never before. May parents not feel alone and may godly grandparents and others who love these children come alongside to help. Jesus says: I give you peace, not as the world gives you, but I give you My peace. Do not let your heart be weary and do not let it be afraid.

Our daughter has homeschooled our grandchildren: before the covid19: as a teacher she was seeing the education system teaching ungodly principles: she’s teaching her last 4 children and is tutoring via computer to another grandchild who is educatable autistic.her and son in law determined to teach the children the GOD OF HEAVEN way: not the world’s way. Even though it might have been a tight budget: GOD provided a way where there is no way.

Your daughter sounds like a smart Christian woman. Good for her for wanting to do what’s right.
