HHS to Reform Organ Transplants, Protect ‘Sanctity’ of Life
Under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Department of Health and Human Services recently announced it will reform the organ transplant system. This follows an investigation that found “disturbing practices by a major organ procurement organization.”

The HHS announced this change in a press release, some of which is included below:
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under the leadership of Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. today announced a major initiative to begin reforming the organ transplant system following an investigation by its Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that revealed disturbing practices by a major organ procurement organization.
“Our findings show that hospitals allowed the organ procurement process to begin when patients showed signs of life, and this is horrifying,” Secretary Kennedy said. “The organ procurement organizations that coordinate access to transplants will be held accountable. The entire system must be fixed to ensure that every potential donor’s life is treated with the sanctity it deserves.”
HRSA directed the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) to reopen a disturbing case involving potentially preventable harm to a neurologically injured patient by the federally-funded organ procurement organization (OPO) serving Kentucky, southwest Ohio, and part of West Virginia. Under the Biden administration, the OPTN’s Membership and Professional Standards Committee closed the same case without action.
Under Secretary Kennedy’s leadership, HRSA demanded a thorough, independent review of the OPO’s conduct and the treatment of vulnerable patients under its care. HRSA’s independent investigation revealed clear negligence after the previous OPTN Board of Directors claimed to find no major concerns in their internal review.
According to the press release, the HRSA examined 351 cases where organ donation was authorized but not completed. In these examinations, the administration found a host of issues. Most concerningly, the HRSA revealed that, of these 351 cases, at least 28 patients “may not have been deceased at the time organ procurement was initiated.”
This is, as Secretary Kennedy put it, horrifying. It also shows a startling disregard for the value of life and the importance of the image of God.
Luckily, changes are coming. According to his comments on the issue, Secretary Kennedy seems determined to fix the organ transplant system so that “every potential donor’s life is treated with the sanctity it deserves.” This mindset in the leader of the HHS is an answer to our prayers!
Let’s pray for Secretary Kennedy and the HHS at this critical time. Let’s ask the Lord to give the Secretary wisdom so that he can create an HHS that values human life at all stages!

God, I thank You for this dear man whom You have elevated to this powerful position at this critical time. Strengthen him, protect him, and give him grace for every decision. Help him to overcome constant opposition and threats by the presence and power of your Spirit.
Praise God for this administration. The passing of the big beautiful Bill to cut government.spending & RKJr. as Health secretary who us wise & not allowing big Pharna to control our nation.
We used to be appalled at the lack of value that the “heathen” nations used to place on human life. Missionaries started orphanages to care for unwanted children, who otherwise might have been left to die – or be sold into slavery. The Catholic church in France started hospitals (then called hospices) to care for those who had no-one to care for them.
Western civilization was based on the Judea-Christian ethic. If we allow that to disappear, so will our form of civilization.
Lord God, we pray for mercy for our blindness and apathy in allowing anti-Christian values to dominate in our schools and elsewhere in our society. Raise up for us Godly, strong, determined, selfless leaders who will fight these battles locally, as our president is fighting them on a national level.
This is horrifying to consider, YHVH – and I’m so thankful it is being investigated. This is another lovely consequence of the theory of evolution being exalted above the actual truth of creation – seeing human beings as body parts instead of image bearers, and discarding the sanctity of life in the name of expediency. I sickens me. Please bring cleansing, and correction, and accountability, and enforceable guidelines to the OPTN so it functions as it was meant to – not honoring the life of the recipient above the life of the donor, but honoring both. Oh, that mankind would cease trying to be “g”od, and trust You, the one and only God.
Well said Mary Beth. A heartfelt Amen In JESUS’ Life Giving Name.
