Has Google been interfering in our elections? Yes — and in at least 41 ways!

Media Research Center (MRC) recently released a report showcasing 41 ways Google has been influencing elections in America. It may shock you to learn that this election interference predates Trump, as the MRC report covers actions from as far back as 2008. Years before Trump famously descended the golden escalator and announced his run for president, Google actively supported and promoted Barack Obama’s campaign.
The report shows how Google has skewed search results to favor left-wing sources, and how it has censored right-wing sources and politicians. Even as the company worked behind closed doors to alter its algorithms to favor Democrats, its leaders were openly endorsing left-wing candidates.
You can read the report for yourself here, but we’ve provided some of the highlights below:
- In 2008, Google favored Obama in the Democratic primaries using its blogging platform. Those who posted pro–Hillary Clinton or anti-Obama content found their blogs labeled as spam. And then, just before the general election, then-CEO Eric Schmidt officially endorsed Obama for president.
- In 2003, gay-marriage advocate Dan Savage sought to mock Rick Santorum, a U.S. senator who opposed gay marriage. With help from others, Savage created a vile definition of the word “Santorum” related to homosexual intercourse. The obscene definition shot to the top of the Google search results. Then, in 2012, when this definition began to haunt then–presidential candidate Santorum, Google refused to stop it or to alter the search results — despite have done exactly that previously to help the White House.
- In 2016, Google hid the phrase “Hillary Clinton crime” from its autofill suggestions, as well as similar anti-Clinton phrases. The platform hid the phrase “crooked Hillary” from search suggestions while allowing the phrase “lying Ted” to remain up, clearly favoring the Democratic Party over the Republican Party.
- In 2018, Google allowed “California Republicans” and “Nazism” to be associated. Searching for one would yield search results and suggestions for the other. Google later claimed this was due to “vandalism” on Wikipedia.
- In 2020, Google blacklisted and censored conservative news sites such as Breitbart, Daily Caller, RedState, and The Gateway Pundit. Gmail, Google’s email client, also marked many emails from right-wing candidates as spam.
- In 2022, Google buried campaign sites for Republican candidates in contentious races, removing them from the first page of search results, in some cases.
- Most recently, in 2024, Google’s new AI Gemini has been openly favoring leftist candidates and viewpoints. Gemini called Biden clever and dismissed concerns about his memory while also criticizing Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert for her “lack of intelligence.”
These are just some of the ways Google has sought to sway elections over the past 16 years. We encourage you to look through the report yourself to see exactly what this company has been up to while claiming political neutrality.

Of course Xavier everything google does is completely honest. Give me a break that is one of the standard responses liberals use because they know it to be true. I suppose that the millions of illegals entering the US at the southern border are over exaggerated and there is no problem. I suppose that no Israeli citizens were murdered October 2023 and that Israel attacked hamas. Open your eyes and see the truth and don’t be so afraid to admit that the great majority of the media is socialist equals communism. God forgive me for being harsh with Xavier. I trust in God.
How much value can you attach to this study if there is vested interests? I bet this is a pro-right group who would therefore be susceptible to confirmation bias in any study they do

I have now installed FREESPOKE on my desktop computer, my laptop computer, and also my iPhone. The FREESPOKE web address is now bookmarked on all devices. It is now my default search engine on all my devices. I really wholeheartedly support this effort!

There are other search engines to use like yahoo or DuckDuckGo.
Father neutralize anything coming against the elections and victory in line with your perfect purposes plans and will. Let truth and integrity and honest fair elections be. Lead guide and protect us and give us your victory in Jesus mighty name amen
Lord Jesus, please, let the Google attempts to interfere with our elections come to an abrupt halt. Along with all other of these interferences, I yield the sword of the Spirit upon the evil spirits of deception and trickery, in the name of Jesus. I loose a spirit of integrity and honesty to fill the void left by the removal of these evil spirits. Thank you, Jesus.
Father, Strike the Nimrod’s of this age and all attempts to:
– interfere with the upcoming election,
– skewing the public’s views on critical matters and
– spinning that which is evil as good.
Father, we all use the internet. Defender of those who belong to You, Lead is out of harm from all these attempts and lead us to principled, Christian alternatives. Multiply the number of people who stop using Google, continue to expose their ways, and mainstream this news so more may know and do something about it.

I knew during the first obama campaign that Google was crooked and for the democrats! When you search you only get back what Google wants you to see and it is left-leaning! Google has harassed me for years telling me it is a law for me to give them my birth date! I ignore them! I used to use duckduckgo search engine but it is not as neutral either anymore! FATHER GOD please deliver us from the evil of the internet in JESUS NAME!
Google a while back, reportedly helped Communist China build the technological infrastructure for the Communist government’s Social Credit System. This basically is a George Orwell, 1984 technology system with surveillance cameras and other technology to spy on every movement of every citizen. If a person gets so many credits against them they can lose their job, home, etc.maybe left out in streets. Have not heard anything on this for a while.
But I understand Google helped the Communist government to build this system to maintain some of worst technological control over it’s own citizens. But if recall, Google wouldn’t help our own nation.
Please consider also how so many of our cell phones are Androids made by Google.
Please pray God would expose and stop any evil while changing hearts at leaders of Google.

Eric Schmidt helped in North Korea, too. There are photos of him there when Obama was president.
What have you found to be reliable alternatives to Google?
Renee B, I am still looking. Like many, I’ve used DuckDuckGo which as advertised doesn’t track your viewing like Google and others for marketing and who knows what.
But search results on DuckDuck are not reliable and tend to be skewed on controversial issues to leftist, and globalist-oriented search results.
But there are a number of conservative oriented search engines (why not Kingdom-oriented-truth as function of Bible and Gods Kingdom not political philosophy
or party which tends to worsen the heated rhetoric and division in our nation.)
Anyone looked more thoroughly into safe , reliable search engines?
There are some excellent alternatives to Google:
BROWSER: I’ve been using Brave browser for years and never Chrome. It’s fast and robust. In a pinch, I’ll use Firefox browser.
EMAIL: I like Proton. It’s an encrypted email service based in Switzerland. There’s a free version that allows 1 GB storage and various paid versions with more storage and features.
SEARCH ENGINE: I’ve been using DuckDuckGo for years. Brave also offers a free search engine and there are many others that don’t censor or track.
PHONE: iPhone offers more privacy than Android, provided you don’t install Google apps like Maps and you turn off Location Services. There’s a new private, secure phone in development from unplugged.com, which I’ll switch to after they expand network coverage to multiple carriers.
VanS, I agree with you about DuckDuckGo. I’ve heard rave reviews about the Kagi search engine. It’s paid, which means you’re not the product and you’re not getting searches that advertisers want you to see. I just started a free trial. So far, so good.
Father we thank you for your faithfulness to us. We put all means of communications in your hands.
(I personally have signed up for many other ministry emails. I used to get them faithfully until this last update from Google. No matter how many times I resign up for them they never show up in my inbox. They never even show up in spam.) With the new ruling that anyone sending bulk mail must verify that each address is legit, this gives them another reason for rejecting whole files from ministries etc…
Lord we pray that the enemy cannot silence any of the voices that only give Your word as the true word and claim You are the one and only true God. We pray that spiritual blind eyes be opened, spiritual deaf ears be able to hear and spiritual dead hearts are awakened.
