Intercessors for America’s Capitol Connections initiative grants intercessors everywhere the opportunity to offer prayer and encouragement to their state Representatives through sending cards. On April 16, IFA Louisiana State Leaders Janie Harris and Regional Leader Lisa Townsend attended the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast. Janie was able to give Sharon, Governor Landry’s wife, a copy of a protection prayer she wrote, with their names inserted into Psalm 91. Janie assured her that the Louisiana IFA Intercessors were praying specifically for her, the Governor, and their son, JT.

Several months later, both Janie and Lisa received a personal invitation to pray for their leadership on July 17, 2025, during a Pastor’s breakfast with the Family Research Council in Baton Rouge. However, due to inclement weather, that meeting was abruptly cancelled.  

Although the initial moment was interrupted, Janie was invited to the Governor’s Mansion a week later. 

Janie Harris is the Region 5 Vice President of the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women.  On July 25th, 2025, she and other board members were invited to lunch with Governor Jeff and First Lady Sharon Landry. During lunch, the Governor discussed his hopes and plans for his Louisiana Proclamation. Janie’s goal in accepting his invitation was to express gratitude for his proclamation of making July a month of fasting and prayer. 

When lunch was finished, all the guests continued to mingle amongst themselves in the rotunda. Janie took a picture with the governor and the first lady on the stairs. She presented a formal invitation from IFA to speak on the national webcast call that reaches around 700,000 people. Shen then thanked Governor Landry for proclaiming July a month of fasting and prayer. She mentioned that IFA is creating a Pray for America Bible, and his proclamation was included in it. The governor waved down his scheduler to get the information; however, Janie had already given his scheduler a folder.

Governor Landry shared how much he appreciated praying people. When she told him she had given the prayers to his wife months prior, he mentioned that he had saved them. He excitedly replied, “I’ve still got the paper, it’s next to my rosary beads, and I pray it every morning,” he said. Janie took the opportunity and thanked him and his wife, “I just want to let you know we are praying for you,” she said.

This is the moment many intercessors in Louisiana had been praying for. Under the unction of the Holy Spirit, Janie was compelled to seize the moment and personally pray for Gov. Landry. “There were about fourteen other people around, amid the chatter, I held out my hand and he clasped it, and I began to pray for him. The room became silent as those other women soon joined to pray as well. I prayed for God to mantle him with the Issachar anointing and strategies to get the job done in Louisiana. I asked God to bless him with the spirit of discernment and wisdom, to know who is for him and who is against him. As I was finishing the prayer, I could feel the anointing God has placed on him.

“He was happy and receptive to the prayers over him. He is a humble man, a true Cajun with a big heart who loves people. To be in the position he is, you should love people, because you are called to serve them,” Janie said. 

“As I sat in my car, I was awed at the opportunity that was God given. I felt the power of God flow through my hand into our governor’s hands. The anointing was so strong that I had to pull over. I was in tears, thanking God, and so humbled that God would use me in such a way. I used to be a postmaster from the country, and now here I am in a position to lay hands on the governor and release the anointing on Him and bless him.  All I did was say yes to God.” Janie said.

A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men (Proverbs 18:16).

Janie remembered where it all began. She had attended prayer conferences, and it was the Lord who spoke to her and connected her to IFA’s Regional Leader Lisa Townsend, who connected her to IFA Louisiana. She recalled a prophetic word given to her that she would be ordained to be in those rooms, and years later, it was fulfilled.

Though this great blessing has taken place, God is not finished in Louisiana just yet. The next assignment will be tearing down strongholds in different regions and raising the tabernacle of David, in corporate worship and prayer. I am expecting that God is going to do something incredible with the amount of intercession for Louisiana, even coming from the leadership of the state. The anointing always flows from the top down. 

You never know what God can do with your yes. Big miracles and answers to prayer are always from God, but in response to our obedience. Father, we thank You for what You are doing in Louisiana. Thank You for God-fearing men and women who know the power of prayer and are unashamed. Let our intercession raise more men and women with an excellent spirit in public office. We need them. Send forth those who will lay hands on leaders who can impart to them and stir up the gifts within them. Fan the flames of intercession for our leaders, in Jesus’ name, amen.
