Is the “transanity” that has gripped our young people finally on the way out?

A new report says yes!

Professor Eric Kaufmann, Director of the Centre for Heterodox Social Science at the University of Buckingham in England, has published a new report on October 10 entitled, “The Decline of Trans and Queer Identity among Young Americans.”

Professor Kaufman collected data from surveys from several educational institutions, including the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression’s (FIRE) college campus surveys of students. FIRE conducts over 50,000 surveys every year at eight Ivy League universities. Mr. Kaufman also analyzed data from the CDC’s annual Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, the last survey in 2025 of 14,000-18,000 U.S. high school students.

His findings revealed that 7% of college students in 2023 identified as transgender or non-binary (doesn’t identify as either male or female). Today, the percentage has plummeted to 3.6% That’s nearly a 50% decline in two years! Praise God.

In even better news, this downward slide is expected to continue as fewer freshmen are identifying as trans or non-binary than seniors.

A Return to Heterosexuality

Professor Kaufman posted on X, “trans identification is in freefall among the young.”

According to his findings, Professor Kaufman indicated that Gen Z is also showing “a return to heterosexuality.” According to the FIRE data, by 2023, heterosexuality had declined to 68% of young people from 80% in 2020. But today, this percentage has rebounded to 77%.

As Professor Kaufmann states in the report, “It appears that trans and queer are going out of fashion in young people, especially in elite settings.” He also concludes that since the youngest represent the leading edge of new trends, “trans, bisexual and queer identities are declining in popularity” in future graduation classes as well.

Mental Health Is Improving too

In the Executive Summary of his report, he attributes this decline in trans identification to improved mental health among the young. LGBTQ young people report worse mental health than heterosexual young people. A dramatic increase in the rates of youth mental illness occurred in the 2010s, peaking after the pandemic in 2021.

But mental health among heterosexuals began to improve in 2022, and among LGBTQ youth by 2023. Depression and anxiety rates among the young continued declining in 2024 and 2025.

Professor Kaufman concludes that the decline in trans identification in students may be due to the decline in students with anxiety and depression.

Professor Kaufmann concludes his report by saying…

“Only time will tell if the substantial decline of BTQ+ (Bisexual, Trans, Queer) identification will continue among young Americans. If so, this represents a momentous and unanticipated post-progressive cultural shift in American society, which is distinctly out of phase with the expectations of cultural left observers in educational institutions and legacy media outlets.”

A Shift to Faith?

While Professor Kaufman does not believe the decline in trans identification is linked to religious revival or a shift away from woke ideology to the political right, something momentous is happening in the country.

Hearts are being stirred.

Faith in God is surging in the US. Some amazing trends are being seen:

• Bible sales are up 41.6%
• Christian app downloads are up 79.5%
• Christian music streaming is up 50%

Maybe the embers of revival are igniting. Maybe the people walking in darkness for so long are seeing the light. (Isaiah 9:12)

While the Left and the progressive churches strip Scripture of the truths they don’t like or refuse to obey, maybe people buying Bibles for the first time are eagerly seeking God’s truth from His primary source. (Jeremiah 15:16)

Maybe they are turning from the weak, false words of the world and the apostate churches and placing their hope in God’s Word and the Word Made Flesh, Jesus. (Psalm 119:114)

As liberals took prayer and the Ten Commandments out of schools, as Hollywood spits on biblical values, and the Left calls evil good and good evil, maybe people are realizing that perhaps it was the Godly virtues holding evil at bay. (Proverbs 2)

Maybe people don’t want to feel nostalgic any longer for what has been lost, and instead long for a renewal of heart, mind, and spirit. Maybe they simply want a better way than what the world offers – the unfruitful works of darkness. Maybe they want a Godly way, a life, and a world filled with all goodness, righteousness, and truth. (Ephesians 5:9-11)

Maybe that’s why there’s been a mighty swell in Gen Z-ers going to church, seeking God’s good way, tired of the one who destroys, and looking for something real and meaningful that can only be found in the hope and abundant life offered in Christ. (John 10:10)

Maybe in a world disconnected and distracted by social media, chaos, and confusion, families are coming together at the dinner table to say grace and be together, and afterwards opening their Bibles to study God’s Word. (Psalm 119:105

Maybe in a broken world, people are seeking and finding the gospel-believing churches, assuring them that there is a Savior who can heal the world and our hearts. (1 John 4:14)

This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. (Jeremiah 6:16)

Let’s Pray

Intercessor, let’s pray for God’s healing on those suffering from the trans-madness and that they will find renewal, restoration, and regeneration in the Holy Spirit.

Let’s pray for an end to the LGBTQ+ agenda in our schools, churches, governments, and our homes.

Let’s pray that all who walk in darkness will seek and find the light of Jesus and choose to walk with Him as a child of the light.

Let’s pray for a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit across the land and for the embers of revival to be ignited.

Let’s pray that all the maybes will be made real in the righteous truth of God’s Word.
