While Americans are busy social distancing, trying to adjust to working at home, schooling their kids, and watching their investments tank, some political figures were working under the radar to “fundamentally transform” our election processes.

Breitbart shares, “Former President Barack Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder admitted he saw coronavirus as “an opportunity” to permanently change the way Americans voted.”

“Coronavirus gives us an opportunity to revamp our electoral system so that it permanently becomes more inclusive and becomes easier for the American people to access,” Holder shared with TIME magazine.

Holder also says our nation needs to look at other options for voting, “to expand the number of voting days. Get creative about this”.  He called for a permanent change in our voting systems,  voting from home, mail-in ballots with pre-paid postage, and unrestricted absentee voting.

While Holder did not address concerns that these new avenues would have any risk for voter fraud, he did explain that any special exceptions made to the voting process during the coronavirus should remain permanent.

“It would be foolhardy to take these pro-democracy measures off the table after we get on the other side of the virus,” he said. “These are changes that we should make permanent because it will enhance our democracy.”

Former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle also recently voiced support for mail-in voting, joining a coordinated chorus of Hollywood celebrities pushing for more mail-in voting.

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have also called for mail-in voting in the 2020 election.

In addition to the push for mail-in and other voting changes, some states are using the opportunity to push through under the radar legislation for progressive election policy changes, such as Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, who on Good Friday, signed the repeal of the Voter ID law in Virginia.  According to the Washington Examiner, Northam also signed into law measures that expand absentee voting timelines to “ensure access to the polls.”

You may be surprised to find out, YES!  In Ohio for instance, in the time period of 2013 to 2017, 56 elections resulted in a tie and 86 elections were decided by one vote. Duplicate voting, illegal voting, easy to do in many cases, and easy to miss for poll workers, can alter the results. Ohio is not the only state with these kinds of incidents. The Heritage Foundation reports that Illinois, Iowa, New Hampshire, and others show similar situations where fraudulent voting resulted in a different outcome.”
