Five Truths about The American Miracle
The American Miracle: Our Nation Is No Accident from acclaimed filmmaker Timothy P. Mahoney (Patterns of Evidence, Thinking Man films, Heroic Pictures) is in theaters as a Fathom Events coast-to-coast on Monday, June 9 through Wednesday, June 11.
Post a prayer for your state!
We shared five interviews from The Kennedy Center premiere in Saturdayās article. Here are the remaining interviews with Pat Boone (played Thomas Jefferson), Michael Medved (whose book was made into this film), Ben Carson, Kevin Sorbo (played Younger Thomas Jefferson), Nicole C. Mullen (who plays a slave who sued for her liberty and whose song āFreedomā closes the film), and many more:
The film answers our prayers by correcting five errors about American history.
1. The Lord God of the Bible was active in the founding of America.
Michael Medved, whose book provided the gist of the information and structure of this documentary-drama, attributes the founding of America to the Lord God.
Miracle after miracle ā especially in the Revolutionary War and especially pertaining to the survival of General and President George Washington ā drove the British to defeat and the colonists to victory.
Detractors ā and there is one interviewed ā may continue to claim a series of amazing (miraculous?) coincidences. But the evidence is overwhelming to those with eyes even a little bit open.
Just two of many examples: George Washington was the only one of about twenty mounted soldiers to escape without being shot during the Battle of Monongahela in 1755.
In 1776, when the Revolutionary troops were surrounded by the British in Long Island, Washington ordered a retreat, which was risky since they were almost completely surrounded. That night a fog settled over the area, enabling the troops to retreat without tipping off the enemy.
2. The founders were not dominated by deism.
Some people have claimed the founders were deists believing God does not intervene in the world He created.
In part, this may stem from enlightenment ideas, which were attractive to many intellectuals. This thought about the founders may also stem from the written use by founders of āProvidenceā or the āHand of Providence.ā But this terminology was often used out of respect for the Name of God.
The many miracles related to Americaās founding and the foundersā writings about them make clear they believed God was at work.
In our interview with Jana Novak, who co-authored George Washingtonās God: Religion, Liberty, and the Father of Our Country, she confirmed Washington was ānot in the leastā a deist.
3. Blacks and women were integral in the American miracle.
Liberated slave Peter Salem became a hero by felling a key British major in the Battle of Bunker Hill. This event reinvigorated the flagging army of colonists, spurring them to continue to victory.
In 1781, slave Elizabeth āMumbetā Freeman, a slave disfigured by her mistress, successfully sued for her freedom, using the newly crafted Massachusetts constitutionās language about personhood.
We interviewed Nicole C. Mullen about playing that role and Libby Smallbone about playing her master.
Women played a role in the fight for freedom, as well. Abigail Adams, for example, greatly influenced her husbandās politics. Martha Washington was devoted to helping wounded combatants.
We interviewed Rachel Day Hughes about playing that role.
4. The Constitution, though enabling it, does not endorse slavery.
The initial attempt at governance ā the Articles of Confederation ā proved inadequate to manage the nascent country.
Subsequent attempts to strengthen the federal governance, while honoring statesā rights, ensued, but were often upended by the topic of slavery.
Slave-states wanted their slave population to count toward the total votes they had in the House of Representatives. States wanting to abolish slavery argued against this unfair voting advantage.
Fractious discussion finally led to compromise. Instead of getting one vote states were limited to three-fifths of a vote per slave.
Over the years, this compromise has been misconstrued to indicate the founders valued slaves as three-fifths of a person. In truth, those who wanted to abolish slavery wanted the number closer to zero, so that slave states no longer carried undue voting power.
This compromise, however, did not go far enough; instead it created an imbalance in voting power that prolonged the evil of slavery and ultimately led to the costly Civil War and lingering ills of racism.
5. Ordinary people powered the American Miracle.
Though many founders were extraordinary and some, like George Washington, were legendary, most were ordinary men and women like you or me.
In our interview with Mary Thompson, historian from George Washingtonās home at Mt. Vernon, she said we shouldnāt see the founders as ācartoon characters. They were real people who were dealing with real issues just like we do today.ā
This theme ā that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when empowered by the Holy Spirit ā is familiar to intercessors.
IFA President and CEO David Kubal focused on this truth in his recent book, Impacting Generations: How Ordinary People Can Influence the Future of Nations.
God is not caught off guard by circumstances or the problems of the day. His plan is to use ordinary people like you and me to fulfill extraordinary callings.
Itās not too late to see the film!

This movie is so needed. Truly its making and showing is a gift of God for such a time as this. This knowledge is so needed for our young people, most of whom are not being taught these facts, or are being taught incorrect and outrageous things which are totally untrue. May God touch many hearts and minds, both young and old, with this film. Itās only being shown for three days. If itās Godās will through prayer may it be shown more in more places in our country or even in other countries ! May this film help our country become united again with its truth. May it be a healing force of God. Esther 4: 14 ā ⦠who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this. ā Maybe we could explore the ways this film could be seen by more people?

America belongs to God and will be saved to carry out its divine purposes for His Glory, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, amen.
Samuel 8:11-18) is where Samuel warns the Israelites about the consequences of choosing a king like other nations, rather than relying on God as their ruler. The king, in his demand for power and resources, would conscript their sons into the military, their daughters into his service, and seize their best land and possessions.
Bless this movie and all who were involved in it’s creation, YHVH. Please use it to call our nation back to You, and to the purposes for which You established it. We have strayed far, but there is still opportunity to get back on course, by Your mercy and grace.
Great news! We just found a theatre close enough to attend the movie. We had checked previously, so don’t know if this was a last-minute change or not. I encourage everyone to check again!
We were planning to see it at one theatre and it disappeared, so I do believe they’re shifting according to pre-sales and requests.
I pray that God provide me a chance to see this movie. I also pray that God have all who need to see this get to. I trust that God will have all this work out. Thank God for the truth. ššš
I discovered a music video featuring Nicole C. Mullen singing her song, “Freedom,” after Joyce submitted this article: https://youtu.be/9CEukZ2x1xs?si=iTTAfSxgqqNkpbHq
Lord, use this song and this film to remind our nation of our roots in You and how Your people have always wanted freedom for every Image bearer.
Father, expand the viewing audience of this movie. Continue to declare the truth regarding the founding of this nation. May Your Name be glorified. May we as citizens return to the founding principles of this nation. May we all return to You and Your ways. Amen.
