From The Epoch Times:

“And I do expect those will result in charges,” [Bill Essayli, first assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California,] told The Epoch Times on June 9.

“The problem in California is they have the universal vote by mail, so they mail out millions of ballots, and they allow them to be returned as late as seven days after the election,” Essayli said.

“California has refused to comply,” he said. “We’re in court. They are making what we consider frivolous arguments.”

Essayli has made election integrity a priority since taking office. While he declined to discuss details of any ongoing investigations, he indicated that federal authorities are following evidence wherever it leads. His office recently launched a public tip line to gather information related to voter registration fraud, illegal voting, and other election-related offenses.

Federal prosecutors have already secured one conviction tied to election fraud. Brenda Lee Brown Armstrong, a longtime petition circulator from Southern California, pleaded guilty after paying homeless individuals in Los Angeles to register to vote using false addresses. According to federal prosecutors, Armstrong’s scheme involved offering cash and cigarettes in exchange for voter registrations and petition signatures. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said the case demonstrates how fraudulent registrations can erode public confidence in elections.

Additional concerns were raised this week by reports highlighting allegations from homeless individuals who claimed they were offered compensation related to voting activities. While those claims have not resulted in criminal charges and remain allegations, they have added to ongoing scrutiny of election practices in California and renewed calls for stronger safeguards.

Another major point of contention is California’s voter rolls. The Department of Justice has spent months attempting to obtain voter registration records for auditing purposes, arguing that federal law allows such reviews to ensure only eligible citizens are registered to vote. California officials have resisted those requests, arguing that releasing the information could expose sensitive voter data and threaten privacy protections. The dispute is currently before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The debate comes as California continues to face criticism over its lengthy ballot-counting process. More than half a million ballots reportedly remained unprocessed days after the recent primary election. Critics argue that extended counting periods fuel suspicion and uncertainty, while state officials maintain that signature verification, ballot tracking, and auditing procedures are necessary to ensure accurate results.

Election integrity remains a deeply important issue for many Americans because confidence in the outcome of elections is foundational to self-government. Whether concerns involve voter rolls, ballot security, or counting procedures, transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining public trust. Let’s pray for justice, transparency, and fair elections!
