Federal Prosecutors Examine How a Second Dan Sullivan Reached Alaska’s Ballot
Federal prosecutors in Alaska are investigating how Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., a retired teacher from the small Southeast Alaska community of Petersburg, came to appear on the U.S. Senate ballot alongside Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan. Grand jury subpoenas were expected within days.
The inquiry has been underway for months and gained urgency after a New York Times report on efforts by Democratic operatives to recruit the senator’s namesake. Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin, relaying reporting from colleague David Spunt, reported Wednesday that prosecutors want to establish the sequence of events that brought Sullivan into the race and are examining possible offenses involving the deprivation of Alaska voters’ rights. The investigation is expected to continue beyond Election Day.

From Breitbart:
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Alaska is handling the inquiry, according to Spunt’s reporting. Investigators were preparing to seek preservation of communications held by phone companies and expected to issue subpoenas in the hours and days ahead.
The latest developments followed a New York Times report describing a months-long effort involving people working with Democrat Senate nominee Mary Peltola’s campaign and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to recruit additional candidates.
“This is Voter Fraud at the Highest Level, and the Dumocrat Candidate, who was involved in the scheme, Mary Peltola, should be removed from the Ballot and prosecuted — So should the FAKE Dan Sullivan. Nothing else will do! This behavior in our Elections cannot be allowed to continue,” Trump wrote.
The inquiry predates this week’s reporting. ABC News previously reported that federal authorities were examining possible wire fraud or a conspiracy involving the fairness of the election process, though it was unclear at the time who could face charges. No charges have been filed, and no charging document naming any individual has been made public.
The Times based its account on interviews with 12 sources, text messages, and documents. Elisa Rios, Peltola’s former campaign manager, told the paper that voters should know about the recruitment effort. Peltola’s campaign denied involvement again after the story appeared. “The Alaskans for Mary campaign has no involvement with either Sullivan campaign,” the campaign said in a statement reported by Alaska Public Media. “Like Mary, our campaign is focused on lowering costs and fixing the rigged system in DC.” The DSCC has also denied participating in the recruitment.
Sullivan has maintained that his candidacy was independent of Peltola’s campaign, and he is a separate person from the Republican senator seeking reelection. The dispute over his ballot status began well before the general election. Alaska election officials initially sought to exclude him, concluding that his filing was intended to mislead voters. He challenged that decision in court, and the Alaska Supreme Court upheld his eligibility to run.
The investigation now turns on a narrower question than whether the confusion was intentional: who organized the recruitment, what they knew, and whether the result deprived Alaska voters of a fair choice. Phone records and subpoenaed communications would speak to coordination that the public record has not established.
A ballot listing two men named Dan Sullivan is not a clerical accident to be shrugged off. If party operatives went looking for a namesake to confuse voters, that is the kind of scheme the law calls fraud, and Alaskans deserve a straight answer before they vote. Scripture forbids a false balance in the scales, and a ballot built to mislead is a false scale. Pray that the truth would surface, that the guilty would be named and the innocent cleared, and that no party would ever again treat voters as marks to be played.
Let’s pray for Alaska’s voters as they head to the polls, for the prosecutors and investigators working this case, and for every candidate whose name appears on that ballot. Ask God to expose what was done in secret and to keep the coming election honest. “Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked” (Exodus 23:7).
