For weeks now, tensions have been rising between the U.S. and Iran. And, as nuclear talks between the two nations continue, a former senior Pentagon official has confirmed that the U.S. is ready for a “sustained, highly kinetic campaign” against Iran.

Dana Stroul, now research director at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, made the assessment Sunday as Washington and Tehran prepare for a second round of indirect nuclear talks in Oman.

“The U.S. military is ready for a sustained, highly kinetic campaign should President Trump order it, and also prepared to defend allies and partners in the Middle East from Iran’s missiles,” Stroul told Fox News Digital.

“The U.S. military can rapidly reposition assets from all over the world and deploy overwhelmingly lethal force in a short period of time to one theater,” she said before highlighting how there is “no ally or enemy capable of what we have seen from the U.S. in this current buildup.”

This comes amid increased tensions between Washington and Tehran. Nuclear negotiations are set to continue on February 26. According to Stroul, Iran is trying to balance brinkmanship with negotiation, “staging preparations and exercises to signal readiness.” Indeed, the Islamic nation implicitly threatened the United States last week, possibly attempting to intimidate our leaders in the midst of tense negotiations.

President Trump, meanwhile, has not shied away from conflict. He previously said that, if the United States’ demands are not met, “we’ll find out” if a U.S. strike would start a regional war. Also, as IFA covered on Saturday, he recently gave Iran just over two weeks to reach a deal or face “unfortunate” consequences.

We seem to be on the verge of dangerous conflict. As tensions continue to rise, let’s pray for wisdom for our leaders, for the protection from Iran, and for peace in the Middle East.
