The Department of Education (ED) is cracking down on five Virginia schools that let men into women’s bathrooms.

ED opened an investigation into the public school districts of Alexandria City, Arlington, Fairfax County, Loudoun County and Prince William County in February after American First Legal (AFL) alleged the districts’ policies illegally discriminated against women. The department said the districts are “trampling on the rights of students” with their policies catering to so-called transgender students that allow students to access bathrooms and locker rooms based on gender identity rather than sex.

ED proposed a resolution to the districts, asking them to change their policies that are inconsistent with civil rights laws, inform schools within the districts that facilities must only be accessed based on sex and “Adopt biology-based definitions of the words ‘male’ and ‘female’ in all practices and policies relating to Title IX.”

This crackdown demonstrates the Trump administration’s commitment to protecting girls across the nation. Craig Trainor, acting assistant secretary for civil rights at ED, asserted that “it’s time for Northern Virginia’s experiment with radical gender ideology and unlawful discrimination to come to an end.”

Many of these districts have faced scrutiny and backlash over their trans policies before. The Caller notes that Loudoun County came under fire in 2021 over attempting to coverup sexual assault allegations, while Arlington faced criticism for allowing a sex offender to watch girls change in a locker room.

Although the ED’s decision to investigate these schools is encouraging, there’s still more work to be done. Let’s pray that God empowers Secretary Linda McMahon and her department to protect girls in schools across the country!
