One school district has chosen to remove Veterans Day and Columbus Day from its calendar, setting off some controversy online. What do you think of this decision?

From Fox News. Stamford, Connecticut school board ignited a “calendar controversy” after voting to remove the Veterans Day and Columbus Day holidays, meaning students are expected to attend class on those dates for the next two years, local outlets reported.

According to WABC, an ABC affiliate based in New York City, one board member cited the length of the 181-day school year that would last into mid-June, arguing that the schedule is too long, but the decision to cut the holidays spawned responses from veterans and others who were outraged.

Alfred Fusco, a veteran and founding member of Stamford’s chapter of the Italian-American service organization UNICO, told the outlet the move was a “gut punch” to him, adding, “It was terrible. It had no inclination.”

On X, some blasted the decision as “woke” and labeled it as “cancel culture.” …

The board’s 5-3 vote took place last Tuesday, with the president absent.

Local outlet, the Stamford Advocate, said board member Joshua Esses, who proposed removing the two holidays, also proposed removing Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday, and the second day of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah from the calendar, but that suggestion received no support.

The outlet also noted that Esses argued that both Veterans Day and Columbus Day could be incorporated into the school curriculum in place of observing the holidays at home. …

Columbus Day, meanwhile, has remained an embattled holiday as concerns over the famous explorer’s role in colonial conquest linger.

The day often finds itself in conflict with Indigenous Peoples Day, which many have shifted to observing instead.

One Stamford board member, addressing that contention, said giving students a day off to observe Columbus Day would send a “mixed message” after they came to the conclusion that he wasn’t a hero during their coursework. …

Board member Becky Hamman pushed back against that notion, arguing that Columbus should not be painted as a villain because of political polarization. …

Our history is very important. America did not get this far without all the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom today.
I cannot understand why a school district would not want the students to know that.
Maybe those that are pushing this should move to a different country, then they would appreciate our history

Our country was founded on Christian beliefs. We have allowed all of these false teachings to be taught in our schools and have not been diligent to be active in fighting for the truth to be taught. Our American History has been changed to suit the liberal agenda. I pray that God will forgive us for allowing this and that we will be alert and active in teaching true history and have God’s Word taught and preached to have revival in our land. Praying God help us and protect us. We do have an uphill battle but God is still in control and with His guidance and help we can accomplish this. Parents need to wake up and see what this is doing to our children and society.

Lord, your word stands eternally as the immovable standard founded on the rock of your Son Jesus- and I declare your word” let us not grow weary in doing good”.. and” in due time we will reap a Harvest”.. these are only part of each verse but they are appropriate. Lord give us strength and courage to stand against evil.
In Jesus name, Amen

We are only seeing evil fruit of many years, 50 to 75 years, of evil- being bred into the school system-, and now we have a long battle ahead of us.

Because of the slow encroachment of globalism ..spun ascevery type of socialism and Marxism they can think of.. which is really just a conduit to bring in the perspective that America is bad…because really what has happened is the globalists are taking over. It started long ago, it started even as early as the 1940s. By the late 1950s and early 1960s college students were coming home on break and telling their parents that they “no longer believed that going to church was necessary,” and that “our professors have other views”

LORD!!!!

My first thought. — “ Are you serious? Really??” with the proverbial head shake.

For these two days to even be considered for removal from the school calendar speaks so much about the hearts of those who suggested and then voted for this measure.

“ We must not be thoughtlessly sucked along into the mainstream of popular thinking, since it is the broad road that leads to destruction.” (Eric Metaxas. Letter to the American Church)

This is the same overreach behavior that is seen in local, state and federal
Government and the ongoing war for the minds of our children.

Sovereign LORD, No one can fool You. There is no middle road, no neutral ground. I know Your Hand is in this, I stand and pray with those who are commissioned by You to address yet another attempt to “rewrite the past to control the future.” (Erwin Lutzer. We Will Not Be Silenced.). I am looking to You for Your supernatural intervention and Thank You for Your wisdom in days to come, to be strong in the LORD and in His mighty power, while I take my stand against the devils scheme and when the day of evil comes, to stand my ground. (Ephesians 6: 10-20)

In Jesus Name.
Amen…

I’m a retired public school teacher and what I have to say to parents is “PULL YOUR CHILDREN OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS!” Our schools have been dumbing down students for decades! I pulled my own 2 children out of public schools when they were one in sixth grade and one in eighth grade! There are excellent home school organizations to help you as well as excellent curriculum you can use. Or you can research excellent private schools. A large number of schools teach no history or geography! There are no textbooks in most schools either. The lessons are online and very insufficient! I used to supplement the “approved curriculum” with history lessons! There is a book, “None Dare Call It Education” that perfectly describes today’s schools! FATHER GOD please let parents investigate every aspect of their childrens’ schools and make an informed decision to see if the curriculum is sufficient to intellectually grow and challenge their students, if not, then let the parents act accordingly in JESUS NAME!

I fear we are too far down the path-, when the Beast shows itself in Brazen contempt, – The Roots have already been dug too deep and the mindset has already been distorted. We must fight back as we are being beaten down ..we must resist.. and stand our ground.. but it will be a long battle.. there will be casualties
