Colombia to Accept Deportations Following Pres. Trump Threats
After Colombia refused to accept deportation flights, President Trump threatened the nation with tariffs, travel bans, and sanctions. Now, Colombia’s President has publicly relented, offering to pick up deported migrants with his own presidential plane.
From Breitbart. Colombian President Gustavo Petro backed down on his declaration that he would not accept deportation flights from the United States. He now says he will send his presidential plane to personally pick up the deported migrants, a U.S. official with knowledge on the matter told Breitbart News.

The Colombian president’s backpedaling came after President Donald Trump announced he would impose numerous sanctions—including “emergency 25% tariffs” …
On Sunday, Petro … suggested he changed his mind about accepting the flights because the U.S. treats “Colombian migrants as criminals.” …
President Trump responded to the matter in a Sunday Truth Social post, declaring, “I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia.” …
President Trump went on to reveal that in response to this, he directed his administration “to immediately take the following urgent and decisive retaliatory measures:”
-Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%.
-A Travel Ban and immediate Visa Revocations on the Colombian Government Officials, and all Allies and Supporters.
-Visa Sanctions on all Party Members, Family Members, and Supporters of the Colombian Government.
-Enhanced Customs and Border Protection Inspections of all Colombian Nationals and Cargo on national security grounds. …

President Donald Trump began a trade war with Colombia after that country’s president refused to permit two U.S. military airplanes full of deportees to land in Colombia. As Regina Garcia Cano and Astrid Suárez of the Associated Press pointed out, Colombia and the U.S. had an existing agreement for deportations under former president Joe Biden, and it accepted 475 deportation flights from 2020 to 2024, accepting 124 flights in 2024 alone. But the Biden administration used commercial and charter flights, while as national security analyst Juliette Kayyem noted, Trump used a military plane that arrived unannounced.
As Tim Naftali of Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs explained: “If a foreign country tries to land its military planes—except in an emergency—without an existing agreement that is an infringement of sovereignty.” Colombia rejected the military planes without prior authorization and offered the use of its presidential plane instead.
Colombia also asked the U.S. to provide notice and decent treatment for its people, an issue that had been raised and resolved in 2023 after migrants arrived in hand and foot cuffs. Colombian president Gustavo Petro noted that the U.S. had committed that it would guarantee dignified conditions for the repatriation of migrants. The plane of migrants landed in Honduras, where Colombia sent its presidential plane to pick them up.
spat with Colombia’s president enabled Trump to declare victory, but Colombia has been the top U.S. ally in Latin America, a close partner in combating drug trafficking and managing migration. That relationship, which has taken years of careful cultivation, is now threatened.
Will Freeman of the Council on Foreign Relations, a think tank specializing in U.S. foreign policy, posted: “I can’t think of many *worse* strategic blunders for the U.S., as it competes w/ China, than going nuclear against its oldest strategic ally & last big country in S. America
space will not allow me to copy more, big mistake by Trump
Trump is over-stepping his Constitutional responsibility’s
Communicate and discuss first…
It cannot be my way or everyone will suffer… we are becoming the global bully.
I have lived all over the world. No country allows illegals to have any rights. They are deported, jailed, fined. President Trump is doing what is good and right for the US.
I thank God for President Trump resolve to protect and defend this country and citizens.
I praise God for President Trump & the strength and wusdom God is giving him to do the things that need done to make our nation great again
We don’t know why Colombia initially took the tact of refusing to receive migrants back to it, but we are very thankful that now President Trump has turned a strong arm. So, Colombia is now willing to receive back its migrants. this should help the southwest border a bit.
Allowing and even encouraging illegal immigration is not compassion. It is false compassion that arises out of ignorance of God’s Word and His character. It is based in anomia – lawlessness – literally Torah-lessness. YHVH’s love language is obedience, which He blesses. Yeshua said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” John 14:15 This statement is part of His discourse with His disciples after the Lord’s Supper and before His arrest, something like His “last Words” to them in John 14-17.
Lord, I do pray for those caught in this mess made by lawless men and women. You are not limited by any national border, so please reveal Yourself and the saving power of Yeshua throughout the earth. May this be the day when You pour out Your Spirit upon all flesh, as prophesied in Joel 2. May You receive the full reward of Your suffering!
The good Samaritan?!
Your are not compassionate.
GO BOSS GO!!!
I’m so glad Trump never backs down on any issues. I know some governments in the other countries purposely sent their very bad people here so they didn’t have to deal with them. It’s so evil what the previous US government has done to our great country.
Thank God a President with a backbone and principles 🙌🙏
President Trumps’ response to the Columbian Governments’ initial misunderstanding of its international obligations was nothing less than I would hope for and expect from a Godloving American President.
Diplomacy also works in many unseen ways – providing the “Diplomats” are credible and known for keeping their words.
It will possibly not be the last time Americas’ lawful and reasonable demands become the subject of sabre-rattling, but it will equally be NOT the last time President Trump prevails !
God Bless America and President Trump – Amen.
Heavenly Father, we thank and praise you for our beloved nation, “one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.” We thank you for the strong leadership of President Trump in protecting the USA borders and its LEGAL citizens from the invasion by ILLEGAL persons who disrespect USA laws and citizens. We pray for those who were duped by the previous administration into unlawful, criminal actions. Father God you know our hearts and our minds. May your Holy Spirit be our guide. We pray for a hedge of protection around our nation and its citizens and for a hedge of thorns around all who seek to harm and destroy this Christian nation and its citizens. Amen and Amen.
As a naturalized American citizen. I think President Trump is just and his actions are out of love and compassion for the Americans who suffered because of these criminals. Mothers and family members cried out to him and begged him to secure the border and enforce laws against the illegal immigration. President Trump in his campaigns promised to enforce law. Illegal immigration is harmful for a nation. God is against these crimes, so President Trump is doing the right thing in the eyes of God, because he is only enforcing the law. Killing, identity fraud, rape, and stealing is against the Lord. God bless President Trump and protect, him and guide him. In Jesus name. Amen.
The personal thoughts of one man, who identifies as a Christian who loves and seeks to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, and who tries to remember that He ministered with love, grace and compassion to the marginal.
From my perspective, Mr. Trump acted like a very powerful bully, providing no viable alternatives for President Petro. He found a way to get his way, which he usually does. Not difficult as President of the most powerful country in the world vs. the President of a country not ranked in the top 30 by US News and World Report. Is this going to be his modus operandi every time another world leader seeks to make a decision they believe is in the best interest of their country and people. I hope not.
Do we have any way to confirm who the deportees on those planes were and if they were even criminals? Even if every one of them had the potential to be, is our country now safer by any significant margin? Absolutely NOT.
The majority of our criminals are American citizens. In comparison / contrast, in 2023 there were over 1.2 million reports to the FBI of violent crimes committed in our country, about 63% of them by 1% of the population and very heavily stacked with men who are US citizens. There are no easy answers for how to reduce crime within that population but I believe a focus there would be much more effective.
My prayer is: Gracious God our Heavenly Father, we are abundantly blessed to live in a free country, but please protect us from blindly following any fallible human being, including our President. May our eyes be focused on You and our philosophy truly be built on “What Would Jesus Do?”. May we also remember that our kingdom is in Heaven, not on earth, so that in our lives we seek to share the love of Christ with others and to point them to Him as the only real hope for peace, both in this life and beyond.
With all due respect, as someone who has suffered because identity fraud, I assure you are wrong. President Trump can not separate every illegal immigrant. He can only discern and treat all of them with the same measure. I call that justice. You have no idea how a mother of a college student raped and killed by Venezuelan criminal suffered and cried out to him. What do you want to do ? I was not born here, but I know your history. I studied it. This deportation was not invented by Donald Trump, it’s been in place for decades. When I first came to the U.S. I would people being deported to their countries every week, and no one thought it was wrong. We all thought it was right because that was the law in the United States of America. President Trump was not even in the picture yet. President Trump is only defending this country and the American people. Enough is enough and the Lord put him back in the white house because we all prayed for the right candidate as president of the U.S. I can not express with words how much my son and I have suffered for the last few months because someone that came illegally through the border bought my identity from the cartel or mafia and used to illegally use all my benefits including my phone service, fake income tax with my information. My son who is in kidney transplant list has suffered because of these criminals. I have been the target of these criminals. I can tell you of so many stories involving illegal immigration and what this people do to Americans. President Trump is not killing them, all he is doing is sending back to their home country. Illegal immigration enable them to abuse the United States. God would never help poor people break the law and make other human beings suffer. That is not God’s character. If they are in need of survival they should come to God first for help, but not cross the border illegally and commit crimes. Remember children are suffering and sex traffic is growing because of illegal immigration. The president of Colombia is responsible for his own people and they shoud not be a burden for the U.S. May God give President Trump wisdom and courage. Amen.
Dear Erick Brown – you are sadly the result of lifelong leftist indoctrination whether you realise it or not. Time alone will demonstrate just how wrong your views really are and how your philosophy always works against the interests of a God-loving nation.
Your accusations of “bullying” ring falsely amongst the wailings of the rest of the Devils’ admirers – a not very subtle but deliberately misleading falsehood we have come to readily recognise amongst the heathen of this century.
May Almighty God show you the errors of your ways in a manner even you will comprehend. Amen.
Greenman21: Not surprising but quite harsh and not reflective at all of me as a person or my beliefs. They have definitely “evolved” over the course of my Christian life, which began over 40 years ago, in January of 1985 when I was 29. I seek to be discerning, to use the good mind God has given me to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and to speak the Truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). I pray daily for our leaders, especially for our President & his staff.
That’s a bit more about me; please share your story with all of us.
Dear Christian Brother Eric, as your Christian Sister, I’m praying for you. Stay in the Word. Mainstream Media and what used to be considered trustworthy sources are being used to divide and manipulate the populations it reaches. There are more than one side to “the story,” & sometimes the other sides are not reported. Stay rooted in the Bible and its teachings. Both the Old and New Testaments are powerful guidelines to living and discerning. There are none of us who are without sin, “No Not One!” Times change but human behavior doesn’t. It’s only through the redeeming sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that we can confess (daily, hourly, minute by minute) our sins, repent, and ask for forgiveness. Some of the most worthwhile wisdom we get comes from learning from our errors and mistakes. Don’t repeat mistakes! God Loves you Brother and so does your Christian Family.
U r sick.
Amen!
Good Samaritan!
I am thankful we now have a president who we can count on to protect our country.
I am thankful to the Lord for enforcing the law. God created the law of men as well.
