I Prayed have prayed
Father, we thank You for putting believers in these positions of power. As they guide our nation, God, let them put Your will and Your principles above their own.

Having this many Christians at the helm of our nation is encouraging. Let’s pray that they lead our nation back to the Lord!

From Faithwire. Christians will make up an overwhelming majority of those serving in the House and Senate during the 118th Congress, according to new analysis from The Pew Research Center.

Join others crying out to the Lord day and night.

In a report titled “Faith on the Hill,” the polling organization explores 534 of the 535 members’ religious affiliations, finding 88% of Congress in the 2023-2024 session self-identifies with some form of Christianity. …

These religious demographics are noteworthy, considering just 63% of Americans call themselves Christian. …

“There are 303 Protestants in the new Congress, an increase of six from the previous Congress and the first time in four sessions (since 2015-2016) that the number has topped 300,” Pew noted in its report. “The new Congress has 148 Catholics, 10 fewer than the 117th.”

Despite the decrease, Catholics still comprise about 28% of Congress, outpacing the 21% of Americans who identify as Catholic. …

Just 65 members of Congress are not Christian. Among those cohorts, 33 are Jewish, accounting for 6% of Congress and outpacing the 3% of Americans who call themselves Jewish. …

An additional 20 members of Congress have “unknown religious affiliations,” according to Pew. …

I do not wish to be a naysayer, but self-identifying as Christian, and being a born-again follower of Jesus are two different things. Scripture tells us that by their fruit we shall know them. After all, Joe Biden identifies himself as a Christian, and we have seen his actions and know that they do not reflect the god of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. So my prayer would be that those who have taken upon themselves the label of Christian would have the fear of the Lord wrap around them like never before. I pray that these ones would be stirred like never before to read His word and obey. I pray that those who have just a cultural definition of Christianity over their life would have an encounter with the most high God, and be utterly swept into the kingdom, out of darkness and into light. Only God knows the heart and so we pray and watch and wait.

Sorry, not to sound negative, but I’m not buying it. “Identifying as Christian” does not make you one. “By their fruit you shall know them.” All you have to do is look at the “fruit” of many, if not most, of our current Congress and you can see they are not legitimate Christians.

Dear Heavenly Father, it is encouraging to know that 88% of Congress still have the courage to claim to be Christian and pray fervently that they will act in accord with Christian principles. Lord God Almighty, give them strength and courage to lead us on a path does not deny that you are the way, the truth, and the light. That alone takes courage these days. Help us, O God, not to stand in judgment of what’s actually in the hearts of the current Congress members as James 4:12 says, “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?” We must remember Saul of Tarsus who persecuted Christians thinking he was doing God’s will, but Jesus spoke to him on the road to Damascus, opened his heart, and a miraculous spiritual awakening brought Saul, now Paul, into the fold. I pray that God uses those who call themselves Christians to do his will on Earth just as he used Paul to spread the Christian message. In Jesus name, amen.

It is a PTL for the new congress. They will need lots and lots of prayer to act the part of what they declare.
Just like many others we know, a profession without commitment is not really an honest commitment, our current president and former speaker of the House are prime examples.

Father, we pray for each member of the House of Representatives and the Senate. May You hold them accountable to their commitment to You. Send the Holy Spirit into their hearts as an assist to their conscience so that their votes are consistent with the scriptures. Help them in times of temptation.
We thank You for each of these men and women and their willingness to serve. In the holy name of Christ. amen.

These representatives openly identify as Christians. This is what encourages me. They have confessed Jesus as Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead. They are saved. Regardless how good a Christian others believe them to be, this salvation is God’s gift.

Romans 10:8-10 “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved….

Ephesisans 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray You will begin pressing into these men and women like never before. I pray the good works that You have already prepared for them will become reality. May their gift of salvation be demonstrated in Godly plans. I ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen

This reminds me of what God said in Isaiah, quoted by Jesus. “This people honors Me with their lips but their hearts are far from Me.”. Also, “The tree is known by its fruit.”.

He also warned us about wolves in sheep’s clothing. Those who ‘self-identify’ as Christians may well be fooling themselves (tragically and with eternal consequences for themselves). Jesus said many would say to Him, “Lord! Lord!” but He will declare He never knew them.

John the Baptist warned the religious leaders to “bear fruit that befits repentance.”. I will definitely be encouraged when Congress does that! But not until then.

Lord, lift the veil from their eyes. Reveal Yourself to them. Transform their hearts and their understanding. Renew their minds with Your Word. Make them the blessing You created them to be. Make them people who can one day stand before You and hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”. Amen.

It’s not encouraging since Unfortunately, 87% of the last Congress claimed to be Christian as opposed to 88% in this new Congress. It made no difference when it came to vote on homosexual marriage. It’s now codified in our laws. It made no difference when it came to vote against abortion. Praying for courage and conviction in the new Congress. They’re accountable to the Supreme Judge of the Universe for every vote against God’s laws.

AMEN, to your comments, Alexandra! Those same comments would apply as well to those in the general population worldwide who claim to be Christians! It is vitally important that our LIVES conform to GOD’s likeness as manifested in JESUS, the Holy Spirit ANOINTED, begotten Son of GOD. And, that means that our words conform to His Words…
It is time for the body of Christ consistently to declare (give voice to) ONLY those words Holy Spirit is inspiring us to say, based on what He is teaching us as we spend time with Him, reading, listening to, studying and ingesting His Word with a desire to change/renew” our thought processes and content. JESUS simply stated, “BE HEALED…GO and SIN NO MORE….COME FORTH….” We are to speak in the same manner as the Master!
As taken and slightly edited from a previous posting:
We know that God wants righteous laws to be implemented and enforced, for He loves righteousness and hates lawlessness (see Hebrews 1:9, Proverbs 14:34). Therefore, we declare as citizens that THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FROM THIS DAY FORWARD IMPLEMENTS AND ENFORCES ONLY RIGHTEOUS LAWS IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE MAYFLOWER COMPACT, THE CONSTITUTION AND DECLARATION INDEPENDENCE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA — all of which are Biblically based. Furthermore, WE FORBID AND COMMAND RECISION OF ANY AND ALL REGULATIONS, RULES OR LAWS THAT IMPEDE RIGHTEOUSNESS.
It is not God’s will for His body to put pro-infanticide, or pro-euthanasia leaders in office, for hands that shed innocent blood are an abomination to Him (see Proverbs 6:16–19). Therefore, we decree over the United States of America that the body of Christ (the ekklesia) is taking its GOD-ordained place in government to rule in accordance with Kingdom of GOD principles —those principles including all that stand for LIFE and righteousness.
We decree that the body of Christ in the United States of America and throughout other nations of the world is Holy-Spirit-empowered and committed to living as “salt” and “light” according to Kingdom-of-GOD principles so that the knowledge of the glory of the LORD is seen over all the world as the waters cover the sea (Habakkuk 2:14).

I have grave concerns. Calling one self a Christian and having Biblical behavior are two different commitments. What does the
Bible say? We are called to be holy as God is holy. I take my vote very seriously and commit my life to Biblical behavior.

If my math is correct, that means that 484 people say that they affirm Judeo-Christian principles. “LORD God, please help these people in Congress to lead by example in humbling themselves, praying, seeking Your face and turning from their wicked ways. Then You will hear from Heaven, forgive their sins, heal all that is wrong in our land and bring glory to Your name. AMEN” Based on 2 Chronioles 7:14

No because many who claim to be Catholic are in name only and many do not follow the Word of God and have a more worldly view in many areas.

So what? A lot of Americans call themselves Christian, but never read the Bible or take seriously God’s commands and warnings. Many politicians raise that banner as another tool to get elected. Ok, so a few of them are genuine followers of Christ. However history shows and current decisions demonstrate that it makes little difference in how most of them govern themselves privately or in public affairs. Biden being just one example. We need a true revival in the Church. Congress is not the church and the church is poorly represented there.
God forgive my cynicism and may we put our trust in Thee, not Congress or human governments. Maranatha

I AM ENCOURAGED BY THIS .
However, before the mid- term elections there was only one pro-life Democrat in the Senate, Joe Manchin, and one pro- life Democrat in the House, Henry Cuellar.
Planned Parenthood and the left wing of the Democrat Party are working hard to defeat both of them.
