Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to California Governor Gavin Newsom warning his state will lose federal funding if he does not end its sanctuary city policies.

In the letter to Newsom, Bondi explained that President Donald Trump had “directed” Bondi, in coordination with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem to “identify sanctuary jurisdictions and notify them of their unlawful sanctuary status and potential violations of federal law.”

Bondi continued to point out that President Trump had “directed federal agencies to identify and evaluate their statutory authority to issue grants, contracts, and federal funds, to determine where immigration-related terms and conditions may be added to combat sanctuary policies that violate federal immigration law.”

“As contemplated by the Executive Order, designation as a sanctuary jurisdiction may result in additional consequences and further agency actions as permitted by law,” Bondi added.

This news comes as Republicans and the Trump administration are cracking down on sanctuary policies around the nation. Breitbart notes that, at the beginning of the month, “the DOJ published a list of more than 30 sanctuary cities, states, and counties that were identified as ‘sanctuary jurisdictions.’”

As deportation efforts continue, sanctuary policies are preventing federal law enforcement from doing its job. States like California are protecting illegal immigrants at the expense of American citizens. As the Trump administration works to keep America safe, it’s fighting to ensure that states and cities with sanctuary policies don’t get in the way.

Let’s pray into this situation. Let’s ask God to open Governor Newsom’s eyes and pray that he comes to see the true harm in illegal immigration and sanctuary policies.
