Will ByteDance sell TikTok, will the app be banned, or will business continue as usual? TikTok’s trial began last week in an appeals court.

From American Greatness. The social media company TikTok has begun making its case in court against a federal law that will either force TikTok’s parent company to sell it, or else see the app be banned from use in the United States.

As reported by Axios, the law in question was passed by Congress with bipartisan support and was signed into law by Joe Biden. The law orders ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to either sell the app to an American company by January, or else the app will be banned from app stores and devices within the United States.

The law was primarily passed due to ongoing concerns over ByteDance’s connections to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) …

The case, which started [last] week in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, will see TikTok claim in court that the ban is a violation of the First Amendment right to freedom of speech. The Chinese company will also claim that the requirements for the company’s divestiture and eventual sale of TikTok are not “viable” due to being on such short notice. …

The case will not be decided until after the presidential election on November 5th. It is also expected that, whatever the appeals court decides, the eventual ruling will be appealed to the Supreme Court. …
