Even as opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is at an all-time high, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently revealed that 175,000 Americans have signed up to join the agency.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin revealed the updated recruitment number on “The Alex Marlow Show” on Wednesday. The recruitment blitz comes as the Trump administration is offering up to $50,000 in sign-on bonuses to new recruits.

The agency has also solicited former agents to return to the force, and many have joined, retired agents who have jumped at the opportunity have told The Daily Wire.

“It really is encouraging to see that patriots see through the charade of the media, they want to enforce the rule of law, and they want to protect our homeland,” said McLaughlin.

According to McLaughlin, those who have signed up saw how illegal immigration crippled the nation under President Biden. This inspired the new officers, or “patriots” as McLaughlin calls them, to join ICE in order to “protect their communities and where they come from.”

As the Daily Wire notes, the passage of President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill gave DHS “a flood of cash” to bolster ICE with. The Department has since spent $6.5 million of recruitment ads that have aired on television and podcast networks, appealing to Americans of all ages and backgrounds.

This also comes as more and more prominent voices across the country are criticizing and condemning ICE. As IFA has reported, the agency has faced pushback from elected officials and attacks from angry protestors. Most recently, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker issued a chilling threat, suggesting that ICE agents will be prosecuted under future administrations. In the face of this opposition, it is encouraging to see that so many are still passionate about serving our nation as a part of ICE.

It is a dangerous time to serve in federal law enforcement, but ICE can’t afford to back down now. Let’s pray for the agency and each of these new recruits!
